  1. @Wheelbarrow repair man Utter tosh "Another Point Regarding the Departure of Big Sam from the Lane, was the Fact his Wife Wanted to Return to the North. " His wife continued to live in Bromley Cross near Bolton!

  4. Seriously @Robbie "As I've said before, get these foreign Head Coaches to go to a ninth tier side with little funds & get them promoted multiple times. I think you'll find it won't happen."...yes, because they can't get work permits following Brexit
  5. @Robbie Allardyce, the man who walked out on Notts, keys under the door, when poached by Bolton... still rankles that Bolton were subsequently fined but no compensation to Notts!
  6. Good morning from Dubrovnik Alarm was 0200h to drive to Gatwick. Misty rain here though warm
  7. I really hate this jingoism from Harry Redknapp "Best country in the world" nonsense. From a man with a Monaco bank account , named after his dog Harry Redknapp trial: Spurs boss 'forgot secret Monaco account' WWW.STANDARD.CO.UK Harry Redknapp failed to declare an offshore bank account containing £189,000 for six years after "feigning" ignorance during an inquiry into football bungs, a court heard today.
  8. Interesting article @Robbie but the beauty of football is that teams can change shape during the game. It's like a game of chess.
  9. I'm quite happy with Islay malts from Aldi or Lidl. Really unsure about long aged whisky "investments"
  10. #waffle1000 5/5 streak: 189 #wafflemaster wafflegame.net Five star for Waffle's 1000th game!

  12. No, Big Sam is a dinosaur. Brentford are very much a possession side too, except that they "mix it up" especially in the opening minutes. I disagree with @Fan of Big Tone on his point...That type of football initially under Nolan got us relegated from the FL. I am old school Howard Wilkinson " You have nothing to fear provided you have control of the ball". Possession is king ( except if it's Russell)
  13. @Robbie "I personally don't think that it is a good thing for our domestic game and our national teams that this is happening." Southgate has taken the national team to semi finals and finals in recent years. The continental influence on the "English" game has been significant. I have mentioned before on other threads, when Russia tried to boost the number of domestic players in their top league, by restricting foreign players, the overall quality of the league fell. The PL full of foreign coaching and playing talent is the "cash cow" of the football world. Perhaps, people are putting too much emphasis on the "coach" now. Football has moved on, it's the clubs overall coaching staff, from manager to head of recruitment, physical / strengthening coach..the overall "package" is now the most important, not just one man. One key point though, the richness of the Premier League clubs can afford to keep "young talent" until they are ready. Notts on the other hand, have found it difficult to transition players from youth team to 1st team as the financial funding gap has not been there, from ages 16 to say 19/20.
  14. Going off on a tangent, whisky matures best after around 26 years.... I remember the Trews offering a 150 year old whisky. I love whisky but I am too price sensitive.... or a skinflint!
  15. We agree to differ @Robbie If that was the case, clubs will be playing more English players as they would probably be cheaper. The one consequence of so many foreign players, the English talent has been cascaded down the leagues. In all my years of supporting Notts, the quality of EFL2 now is the highest its ever been!
  16. Jim Ratcliffe companies have vigorous cost control measures. If the amounts of money for Fergie were true, then that releases a substantial amount towards the playing budget then.
  17. @Robbie "I'm sure the away supporters appreciate it." Well, every little helps
  18. Spot on @DangerousSausage @Wheelbarrow repair man The Premier League is sold around the world, because the world audience want to see the best talent, most of which is from overseas. That's why the "product" is in demand and television audiences around the world pay the big bucks to the Premier League. Unfortunately the Premier League kept the 100% of overseas television rights, rather than proportion it down , like the English television deal, where the allocated sum is dividend down as 80% championship, 12% EFL1 8% EFL2 This is , with due respect, a ludicrous comment "Another Foreign Coach who almost ruined an English Players Career Pep Guardiola, look what he did to Joe Hart Destroyed the Lad's Confidence, repeatedly loaned him out and Why? Because he struggled playing the Sweeper Keeper Role. " Pep soon realised that Joe Hart didn't fit in the sweeper keeper role, so effectively got rid. I am still surprised Slocombe is still at Notts, as he is no way good enough as a sweeper keeper too. Perhaps what is telling Burnley signed Hart for only £3.5m. One can say his Man City career had been seemingly littered with errors. Even Mancini had serious questions over Hart. Just to reiterate, the article is in the Sports section of The Herald. Ireland own football clubs, are also faced with the same dilemma, as the old existing Treaty with the UK, allows for continual free movement between UK and Ireland.
