Ricky Hatton was a very entertaining boxer. In the early part of his career he seemed a little distant, but over time he became likeable and earned a lot of respect. It is very sad to hear about his passing. The news came as a shock and feels even more powerful because it was so unexpected. Rest in peace, Ricky Hatton.

It’s not just about the goals, it’s about how well Dennis suits our system. He links play, stretches defenders and gives us an outlet when we’re under pressure. You can already see a connection with Jatta, and as they play more together it could be a real force in this league. His award is well deserved and shows how quickly he’s made his mark. The interview made me think he’s level-headed and understands what’s needed. Gillingham away is a real test, but if Dennis plays with the same energy and focus, we’ll be in with a chance. The key is to keep him supplied with chances, because right now he’s finishing everything.

If the preparation is done properly and the recruitment is sorted in good time, I don’t really have a problem with it. The concern is that if you go too early, you might end up taking trialists just to fill the squad. It could be a nice reward for some of the younger players, and it also gives new signings a chance to settle in and get used to the team. If we do go ahead with the tour, I just hope it starts a week or so later. That would give us time to organise friendlies around it and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Tranmere did a lot of pushing, and most of it went unnoticed by the officials. That’s why I’m even more pleased with the win. Teams like that try to wind players up and break their focus, but we didn’t let it happen. I thought Jodi Jones had a poor game, especially for someone of his usual standard. He could’ve come off at half-time and it wouldn’t have been a surprise. Everyone else did their job well, but the three who really stood out were Matthew Dennis, Matt Palmer and Rod McDonald.

The part about his drop into non-league was very interesting. Not many players speak so openly about having to earn their way back up. It shows a lot about his character and probably explains why he values resilience so highly. Football isn’t always straightforward, and I think younger players can learn a lot from him. Having someone in the squad who knows what it takes to bounce back from setbacks can only be a positive. He comes across as someone who leads by talking but also by his standards. Even if he isn’t the captain here, it’s clear he will be one of the senior figures that others look towards.
