Game 13: Surrey v Nottinghamshire
It could be an enthralling final day at the Oval with Surrey requiring 249 & Notts 10 wickets to win this clash of the top two sides in the County Championship. Will the Weather intervene to scupper the chances of both sides?

Are Two Strikers Better Than One?
@theAnticlough said, Personally, "I want Pato to try out Dennis in the Didzy role to help with linking up the build up play from defence ton attack". Agree this would be a good move. It worked so well with Jatta & Didzy in the same team, one behind the other. I think it is worth Patterson giving it a go. This could also release Jodi from that number 10 role & put him back on the wing where he is much more influential & dangerous to the opposition. Who would be the best alternative to place alongside Dennis in the AM role? Iorpenda, Grant, Jarvis or even Palmer. Could Palmer move up the field to play as an AM. He does have the talent. Could Iorpenda play alongside Norburn in the centre of Midfield? There are alternative roles for players that Paterson could chew over. I'm sure that Paterson is the type of coach who will consider putting players in different roles as he did Jones.

Martin Paterson has experimented in.playing two Notts strikers alongside each other, however the results have been mixed. Throughout the last several years the preferred formation has included one striker up front with another recognised striker playing just behind as an attacking midfielder. Didzy was very successful in playing that role when he was in the side with Jatta up front. Stuart Maynard played Cedwyn Scott in that role on a few occasions but not with a lot of success. The Notts formation has been set around just having one striker upfront & having two attacking midfielders behind them. Having two strikers can upset that balance somewhat. I am sure that Paterson will persist in the two striker experiment & it could be a good move. Dennis has done so well playing upfront before Jatta returned & now he's back we need Jatta's presence upfront too. But with Traore not even being on the substitutes bench can Notts afford not having a recognised striker on the bench in case Jatta or Dennis get injured or just get tired? Should Notts play one of those two strikers as a number 10, or play up front together, or have one of them on the substitutes bench? It's a conundrum that Martin will have to decide. What would PON members do in Martin's position?- Oh dear Forest

Thanks for the info @Wheelbarrow repair man I wasn't aware of those stories but it does show that there was aot of mental illness around on both sides due to the carnage & the noise from the incessant shelling which brought on shell shock & also led to soldiers either deserting or going AWOL from their units. 306 British & Commonwealth soldiers were shot for disciplinary offenses for cowardice and desertion during WW1. Those soldiers were all given a postumous pardon in 2007 when it was recognised that the psychological affects of War did affect a lot of young soldiers at the front. It was a War that saw old-fashioned tactics such as the mass charging of men & horse mounted cavalry facing the machine gun & mass artillery. It resulted in mass casualties of an epic level that saw casualty figures for the British of over 57,470 on the first day of the Battle of the Somme including over 19000 fatalities. It's understandable that hundreds of Soldiers broke down as a result of the carnage & just decided they couldn't take any more. There is a British Film that was from 1964 called KING AND COUNTRY that starred Dirk Bogarde & Tom Courtney about the trial & execution of a British Soldier that went AWOL in WW1.- Game 13: Surrey v Nottinghamshire
Notts are 256 all out with Ben Hutton undefeated with a vital 42. Surrey need 315 to win, Notts need 10 wickets. Notts have given themselves something to bowl at.- Game 13: Surrey v Nottinghamshire

We've seen examples of Head Coaches and Football Managers getting jobs in the lower divisions to resurrect their career by getting more experience at a lower level, & getting a regular wage. We've seen that with Stuart Maynard & there are plenty of other examples. It's better to be in work in a profession you love than being out of work for the sake of waiting for a lucrative appointment that may never come.- Should Notts Hold On To Their Footballing Principles?
@Wheelbarrow repair man As I have said on many occasions there was only need for up to 5 players or at a stretch 6 during the summer transfer window. The main problem Notts had was the the lack of a creative player. Paterson has tried Jodi in there but he's better & more creative on the wing. For the reason only known to Paterson, Jarvis cannot get a look in, & I would have kept Austin & given Didzy what he wanted. For me, Luker, Norburn & Hall haven't improved the squad compared to Hinchy, Austin, or Whittaker. Traore is no better than Scott. Cotter is no better than Tsaroula on the right. I say improved the squad in regard to ensuring the the Notts football principles are maintained & to ensure the squad remains coherent & not disjointed.- Broad Marsh Bus station photo 1953
My cousin lived in the Meadows area off Kirkwhite street in the 60s. All that area was demolished by the mid 70s. There have been lots of changes in Nottingham since the 50s by uban redevelopment, the demographics of the City & the industry has changed too. The Coal Mines have gone & there are no longer any lace factories left. The last trolley bus ran at the end of June 1966. You could call the trolley bus the first green bus. - Connections game
