I tend to agree with @Sheffield Pie with his summing up of Notts's chances of automatic promotion. A couple of good additional signings might give an opportunity of making the playoffs at least. There are up to 16 teams above and below Notts that will be challenging for either a automatic promotion place or a place in the playoffs. Half a dozen of those teams could go on a decent run. One of those teams has to be Notts which at the moment is a bit of a stretch.

How things have changed table wise over the last few matches. Notts now find themselves in eighth place, twelve points behind leaders Bromley & more importantly four points behind Walsall who are in third place. Notts have only scored one goal in their last four matches, even though Paterson is playing Jatta & leading scorer Matt Dennis together. Injuries to key players have not helped. Influential midfielders Palmer & Robertson have been a big loss, Jones is not in the best of form, & as a result Notts are not creating the movement from the back that can create chances for our leading scorers. The transfer window is upon us & Notts have already brought in two players, one of those should challenge for a first team place. So the question is, are you confident that Notts can still achieve an automatic place or is a playoff place more likely now? Here is the current League 2 Table.

I'm so pleased that they have made their mark in history after having to start all over again as a phoenix club after Macclesfield Town were liquidated and expelled from the National League in 2020 because of huge debts. Macclesfield have recorded three promotions in the four subsequent seasons & are now in the National League North, currently in 14th place.

Macclesfield FC have beaten a Premier League Club (Crystal Palace), who were the FA Cup Holders 2-1. A team that was 117 places above them in the Football pyramid. It was the biggest FA Cup shock in history. The Magic of the FA Cup continues.

Beck-Ray Enoru has joined us from National League side Tamworth for an undisclosed fee. The versatile, attack-minded 23-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal, with the option of another year in the club’s favour. Director of Football Richard Montague said: “Beck-Ray has a very exciting profile and will add another dimension to our attack. “As well as being extremely quick, he’s a very talented one-v-one dribbler and a real threat in the attacking third. “Having excelled in step three of non-league before joining Tamworth, he has taken the National League in his stride and we’re excited to now give him the opportunity to showcase his talents in the EFL.” Quoted from the Notts website.

I think Notts are persisting with the long ball to counteract the opponents high press & our opponents just sitting back and basically challenging Notts to break them down. Notts just don't have the playmaker(s) to open defenses, so it's the long hoof. Problem with the long hoof both Jatta & Dennis are not the type of players that can take a long ball, shield it and distribute the ball to other Notts players consistently. When Palmer & Robertson are in the side Notts are much better at breaking defenses down. If Notts did have a good playmaker to feed off those two, I think Jatta & Dennis would be much more consistent with their performances.
