The Palais
Often heard of the Palais but Never Actually went there. I know quite a Few Guys who have Fond Memories of the Place. And a few Stories that would make your Teeth Curl. The main Story which is clean enough to repeat here is. A chap I used to work with Nev he used to hang around with a Gang way back (1950,s) and in their Gang was a Lad called Big John, who was into all this Charles Atlas Bodybuilding Stuff. When he danced with a girl he'd pick her up Twirl her round in the Air and then catch her. Many a time I was told you'd see a girl John had danced with staggering around the Dance floor as if she was Drunk. On one Occasion a member of the Gang was on the Balcony and he shouted down to Big John. Hey Johnny Boy Catch me, Big John stood with his arms open as if he would catch his mate, who launched himself off the Balcony, expecting Big John to catch him. But Big John just spun round and Walked away. If that Story is True I don't know or if Nev was just pulling My Leg as it were, True or Not I found it Very Funny.

An Unhappy Football Memory
@liampie My Dad and I were always close right through his life and I Miss him Terribly and My Mum for that matter. Around 1970 the time of the Mexico Tournament I think my Dad was on about £20 a week. Out of which he gave Mum her house keeping Money, Paid the Rent and Bills then made sure my sisters and I were always turned out well. He also paid for the Family Holiday, so there wasn't a lot of cash about for Foreign Trips to Mexico. But we enjoyed following England up until the Quarterfinal Defeat by West Germany. @Fan of Big Tone Aye it was a Massive disappointment, but Dad helped me get over it pretty quick. And years later I came to realise that's part of Life sometimes your down in the Dumps and other times you're on Cloud 9.

An Unhappy Football Memory
Awhile ago my Mum passed away and going through her house sorting things out, I came across an Old Chest of Drawers and one of the draws wouldn't open properly. I managed to get my hand in side the Draw and something right at the back was wedged in such a way the Draw stuck. I managed to work it Free and pulled it out it was a letter that I hadn't seen in 50 odd years and didn't know my Mum still had, I would think in was put in the Drawer and Forgotten about. So here's the Unhappy Football Memory that Letter Contained. In 1966 England were Crowned Kings of the Footballing World and four years later they set out to defend that Title in Mexico. As the Tournament approached all the papers were full of different things about England, and the News Of The World Ran a Competition WIN AN ALL EXPENCE FREE TRIP TO MEXICO. What you had to do was pick an England Squad of 24 Players who you think will Go to Mexico. So I sat down and went through the Names of Players who had made the England Squad of 32 Players and I had to Whittle them down to 24. The Winner of the Competition would be the contestant who came the nearest to Choosing the Squad picked by Football Experts, EX-Players and Football Journalists. So off went My Entry Posted First Class. Around a Fortnight later I Got a Letter. CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE THE WINNER OF OUR ENGLAND IN MEXICO Competition!! Me and My Dad were Going to Mexico to watch England in the World Cup. Only we Didn't, a couple of days later I received the Letter I Now held in My Hand. I Had Been Disqualified From The Competition. The Reason Why? I WAS TO YOUNG (13) and shouldn't have been Allowed to Enter the Competition in the First Place. That Letter bought back An Unhappy Memory. But I Did Get Some Satisfaction, from getting a Match and Setting It Alight and Watching It Burn To A Cinder.

Notts County Academy Watch.
Major Talent Will Always Shine Through. The Trouble is if Notts did Unearth a Future Super Star, you can Guarantee he wouldn't be at the Lane Long before the Big Clubs come sniffing Round. Because as You have said in the Past @Robbie Big Clubs don't want to Nurture their own Talent they just Want To Buy It from another Club. Some Players are late Bloomers Look at Macca he was released by York City and spent a few years Kicking Around the Lower Leagues (was it at the 7th Level? ) He was given his chance by Gateshead, then Notts took him On and the Rest as they Say Is History. The Annoying thing is there might be a Hidden Talent in the Notts Academy, But because of the Attitude Notts have appeared to have Taken the Magpies will never get any Benefit from that Player, because they won't give him a Run in the First team, to see how he develops. After a Couple of years being Loaned out by Notts, he could move on and another Club, who are Prepared to take a Risk on playing him could Gain a Hugh Transfer Fee for Him., when that Money could have benefitted Notts instead of the Kids New Team. Look at Tiernan Brookes if he goes on to have an Excellent Season at Gateshead and he catches the Eye of Some Scout from Higher Up the Footballing Pyramid, and Gateshead sell Him they Get the Double Benefit of him having played for them and then get the financial Reward when the Sell Him.

How To Cure Footballers Fatigue.
@Robbie You know that's Not a Bad Idea. Open the Nest Up when the Magpies are away, so Fans can Watch their Favourites in Action. Yeah I can See the Appeal. As long as they made it affordable to watch so a Family can also watch. Maybe a Quid A kid . A Fiver for the over 60's and a Tenner for everybody else. I'm sure the Club would Get Plenty of Takers. Food and Drink also available you'd be on a Winner There.

How To Cure Footballers Fatigue.
True so very True @Robbie. If the World Cup Finals get any bigger then all the Footballing Nations In The World will be In The Finals. Same Goes for the Euro's as well. But the F.A Aren't bothered as long has they Get Paid Massive Amounts of Money Eventually there won't be Any Ordinary Fans at Football Games, it will all be Corporate and only the Rich will be able to afford to Attend Matches, because the Ordinary Fan will be Priced Out. Didn't Notts C.E.O Joe Palmer say they were going to Increase Hospitality at Meadow Lane? So they'll be hoping to Attract More Businesses to Notts to pay the Club more Money to increase the Revenue and the Fans at Meadow Lane who have followed the Magpies for years will be Frozen out Eventually because of Cost. Would You want to watch the Magpies in Action at the Lane from behind Plate Glass Windows, for Every Home Game? I know I wouldn't. Could You Imagine the Derek Pavis Stand ,the Kop Jimmy Sirrel Stand and the Hayden Green Family Stand all Crammed with Hospitality Boxes Piled on top of Each Other and the only way you'd get to see your Favourite Notts players is through a Glass Window. Or maybe you can watch the Game Live on the Big Screen in the Nest. Paying a lot of Money for the Honour? I know it Sounds Crazy but give it a Few Years and See how things Develop and Maybe these words won't Sound So Far Fetched As They Do Now.

The Great Global Outage.
This Just In Due To Being Unable To Get Tickets To Fly Back To England Notts County Are Stranded In Germany.. Half Time From Prenton Park Tranmere Rovers 37 Notts County 0. Well in the First half here at Prenton Park it's been all one way Traffic. The Rovers have been Truly Amazing and I must Say the Magpies have ben very Disappointing. However the Latest News From the Notts Dressing Room is Notts are Going To Park The Bus LITERALLY in the Second Half. I Can See The Notts County Team Coach Being Parked By It's Driver in front of the Notts Goal Before The Second Half Starts.

Notts County Academy Watch.
This Seems a Little Strange the Academy having Matches While the First Team Squad Is Away. Surely it would Have Been Better, For Stuart And His Coaching Staff being there to Run An Eye Over Notts Up And Coming Talent? Oh Silly Me. The Reason For These Matches Is Well, We Can Sell Him, Sell Him And Sell Him. Because It Seems Notts Don't Want To Promote Their Own Talent Into The First Team Squad At Some Future Date.

How To Cure Footballers Fatigue.
During the Euro's We Heard How Tired The England Team was Well I Have A Cure. Make the Champions League Just That. Champions From Each Country Only. No Group Stages Just a Knockout Tournament Pure and Simple. That Way The Poor Lambs In The England Squad Wouldn't Be Tired. Make the World Cup & Euro's Finals between the Top 16 Teams Ranked in The World. 4 Groups of 4, with the Top 2 From Each Group Progressing. No Qualifying Rounds Just Straight Into The Finals. Less Matches Means More Energy And Less Fatigue For Players. Have The Finals Played In One Country instead of 3 Less Plane Travel Less Jet Lag Less Tiredness For The Players. It's Easy When You Think About It. What Do You Reckon My Fellow PON Members ?

Woking FC in fear of administration
@Robbie That's Why I've Stated In The Past, the Premier League Needs To Go It's Own Way. And all remaining Clubs Should be Brought together Form another Governing Body to negotiate TV Rights. Cap Player Earnings and Transfer Fees. Cut Down on Foreign Players, Coaches and Owners. Produce a More Level Playing Field. @Chris As I said there should be a Financial Blue Print Drawn Up by Experts which Lower League Clubs Must Stick to Help Secure A Clubs Future. And Stop with the 10 point Deductions Which Will Add To A Clubs Woes and Further Pressure. There can be Nothing Worse than a Struggling Club, getting their Act together Sort their Financial Problems, Only To Be Told, Oh By The Way We're Docking You 10 Points.

Notts Dutch training camp
@Chris What an Absolutely Brilliant Idea. Get the Fans Involved as Much as Possible. You Should Apply For A Job As An Ideas Man At The Lane. Think What Something Like This Could Do. It Would Have Certainly Got Top Marks From The Notts Fans And Built A Stronger Bond Between Fans & Club.

@Robbie F*** Gareth Southgate. He's Yesterdays Man.

Woking FC in fear of administration
Why is this Continuing to Happen? And Why isn't the EFL , Doing Helpful About It? My guess is the only thing the EFL Will Do is Dock Woking 10 points which will probably Condemn them to Relegation. How many Clubs is that in the past season 3,4, 5? who have suffered Financial Problems ? Clearly the Cost of Living isn't helping things Nor is the Fact the Premier League Is Hogging All The Money. It's about time a Good amount of Cash finds it's way down the Football Pyramid to teams like Woking. And to think a Week or Month wages Donated by a Top Earner in the Premier League would solve all of Woking's Financial Problems. It's Time to Put a Cap on what Top Players can Earn in the Premier League and all other TV Money be distributed equally between other League Clubs including the National League. If a team is Struggling with their Finances there should be a Money Pot in which the EFL can give Clubs in Trouble an Interest Free Loan and have a Financial Expert on Hand to help Clubs use their Funds Correctly, by drawing up Blue Print which a Struggling Club can Work Too. The Premier League & FA Are Footballs Greatest ENEMY.

Notts Dutch training camp
@Robbie Lets call it for What it is Tippy Tappy Football. I just hope that if we have to suffer this type of Football at the Lane this Coming Season. At Least SPEED THE BLOODY PLAY UP.
-
Fact of the day : 90th minute
I Don't See the point of calling him a Super Sub, just because he scored a 90th minute winner ( even if he's the youngest to do so). If he'd had done it 3-4 more times in different England Matches Fair Enough. Is that All England have to Celebrate then? Ollie Watkins being the Youngster Sub ever to score the Winning Goal as a Substitute in the Euro's and Kyle Walker got into the Team of the Tournament Side. We're just Clutching At Straws Now.
-
Notts Dutch training camp
I was thinking along the same lines @Robbie, I thought it would be a Good Time for SM to play the Players he thinks will be in the Notts side for the Opening Fixture of the New Season. And Give them at Least 60 minutes before introducing any Subs.

Crawley Town sell-off
@Blake I don't think there is any Question regarding the New Players Not Being Supported By The Fans. As they are Now Magpies. @Robbie I think the Euphoria of Notts getting Promoted back into the EFL had more than a little bit to do with the Notts recruitment. Players who were Not up to League 2 standard were kept at the Lane, in the Hope they could take Notts into at least the Play offs. A Case of the Heart Ruling the Head. Sadly when Luke Williams left and he took his Man Management skills with him it affected the Notts Players. perhaps more than they Realized. I would think that if Notts do get Promoted the same Mistake won't happen again and New Players with higher League Experience would be bought into the Squad. While Players thought not to be League 1 standard would be Realised.

Door knockers notice
A Simple Sticker With the Words NO JUNK MAIL is Fixed to our Letter Box. But it Doesn't Stop the Postman or Woman from pushing all Sorts of C**p through the Door. I Think I May have to make Up some sort of Poster to Deter That. Suggestions Very Welcome.
-
Crawley Town sell-off
Seeing that Notts have signed to of Crawley's Promotion Winning Team. Does it Beg the Question, did Crawley Town's Board think these players were Not up to League 1 standard ? Or is it that Notts have offered them a Better Contract?
-
Notts Dutch training camp
I remember travelling to Holland with School back in1969, It was part of a 10 days Cruise which also took in a visit to Norway. Travelling on a Coach through the Dutch country side at that time along side of the Motorway were fields and they alternated between Football and Baseball (which was at the time very Popular in Holland. Don't know if it still is). Matches for a Few Miles.
