  1. We need to start on the front foot in this for definite. Newport will want to contain us and hit on the break. If we let them settle in to the game early it could become very difficult. If we get off to a flying start and score early we should be fine.
  2. Talk about history repeating itself. The same thing happened last season! I think we should go back to the system we played against Accrington. No strikers and score 4 goals! Maybe we do better with our backs to walls. Surely things can’t get any worse.
  3. No withstanding the injuries, tiredness is now becoming a factor. This is now where we see the real character of the squad. When your backs are against the wall what fight do we have. Win the next two games and automatic is still on. Anything less and it's pay-offs at best. COYP we can do this!
  4. Maybe the Oldham result (and one or two others actually) suggest we should re-think our recruitment strategy. To get out of league two it seems you need strong physical players with pace. Then when promoted add the more technical players as you climb the leagues.
  5. Although I voted for Tom Iorpenda, Matt Palmer was also very good. I think Palmer and Norburn work well together with Iorpenda higher up the pitch where he does his best work. I just hope Rod McDonald's injury isn't serious or we could be in trouble for defensive cover.
  6. There have not been many games this season where one player stood head and shoulders above the rest of the team. Well for me today was one of those occasions. My vote goes to Tom Iorpenda. His all round game was excellent today and his goal would have graced the premier league. A thing of beauty!
  7. Everyone played their part. Those who scored and those with assists, deserve special mention. However, I have gone for Matt Palmer. While he did nothing spectacular, he just makes the team tick. He gives those in front of him the platform to do what they do best. We have missed him in recent games.
  8. What is noticeable as well is that we are getting plenty of bodies into the box when we attack. I'm sure that's because we don't have a recognised striker. Too often this season we have put good balls into the box, but there is no one there to put it into the net.
  9. I agree@theAnticlough the three up front will need to rotate and be fluid. It won't work though if we keep pumping high balls up to them. This is a game to dominate possession and play it into feet. We only need to score one goal in 90+ minutes to win as long as we defend well.
  10. Although this looks the weakest team we have put out this season, there is plenty of experience out there. The scene is set for someone to become a hero or someone to come off the bench and make an impact. This is definitely an opportunity for the squad to show what it's really made of and the deterimnation to get promotion! COYP!
  11. I don't disagree @Robbie I think MP has to work with what he has. Grant is probably the best of the current options. I can't see Jayden Luker coming back to have an impact.
  12. For me the problem with not just Grant but all those who play the 10 role is a lack of end product. Yes there are moments of skill and energy, but it's the lack of goals, they just don't seem to do enough to affect the game. I think that's been our main problem this season. We have a strong defence and midfield. Strikers who are scoring goals. It's just that 10 role that is lacking for me.
  13. A takeaway for me is we don't seem to have the big game mentality. Even before the sending off we didn't look composed and get a hold of the ball and move it around the way we usually do. When the stakes are high we don't have the calmness to go along with being on the front foot. I had the feeling we still would have lost even with 11 players.
  14. Another game hard to choose a mom. No one stood head and shoulders above anyone else. I've gone for Tom Iorpenda. Always gives 100% for the shirt.
  15. It looks like at the moment we are going to do the usual run-in tail off. Now is the time to start putting results together like MK Dons and Cambridge. Bromley's style of play is well suited to succeed at the business end of the season. It looks like these three could secure automatic promotion. Ill discipline could cost us. Who is going to lead the line on Tuesday night? If we win the next two matches, then it's game on! If we lose any more ground it's paly-offs.
  16. We are as good as anyone in this league. For automatic promotion, we have to get our injured players back. With a full squad and the team spirit we have at present, we can definitely get top three.
  17. I have gone for Ollie Norburn as well. Not just for the goal and the pass, but his drive and experience. He is a real leader on the pitch. I think we would have gotten more from the Grimsby game had he played. We need him fit for the run-in. I also wouldn’t be opposed to playing Bennetts as a number 10. I don’t think Connor Grant or Tyrese Hall offer enough of a threat in that role. They have technical ability, but just a bit lightweight against physical teams.
  18. No one was perfect yesterday, but still some good performances. Defence was good, we are defending set pieces so much better this season. I wish we could find a way to get Rod McDonald into the team without dropping Matty Platt. My vote goes to Tom Iorpenda, he was playing a deeper role and yet managed to nearly get on the end of a Jodi cross. I feel he typified the desire even with 10 men to get something from the game.
  19. Grimsby are a team that remind of us in past seasons. Like to play football, but have a soft side to them. We are much more aggressive in the press this year and have a more physical side to us. I think that will give us edge in this game and we can get all three points. At the same time like with any game in this league if you don't perform your best you can get beat by anyone. I think for that reason I would start Ndlovu up front and if Dennis starts play him as a 10 otherwise put him on the bench for later in the game. If Norburn and Palmer are not fit, then Iorpenda alongside Robertson would work well in midfield.
  20. Yesterdays result and performance puts the Shrewsbury game into perspective. Those defeats happen to the best of teams and as has been said before it's how you respond and wow did we respond. I just hope Ollie Norburn's injury isn't too serious he is very important for us. Having said that it was 1-0 when he went off and 5-0 by the end. What a great squad we have at the moment and great to Rod McDonald back in contention. We're going to need everyone for the run in!
  21. There were a number of candidates yesterday not least Tom Iorpenda who was magnificent all game. But I have gone for Lee Ndlovu. I just felt he gave us something different. His strength, pace and willingness to run on to balls over the top was something we've not see for a while. With him in the side or coming off the bench just gives another option to attack teams. Not to forget he scored two goals and could easily had a hat-trick.
  22. As disappointing as it was to lose to Shrewsbury, it was only 1-0. Any team team can lose 1-0 to an inferior team especially when they approach the game with a low block and a 'survival' game plan. As @DangerousSausage says we move on, these kind of games happen in a season. A good result on Saturday and this will all be forgotten. COYP!
  23. The fact that Gavin Cowans is their new manager is the thing that concerns me. He got his tactics right against in the FA cup and knows how we play. Add to that the new manager bounce factor, this is not going to be easy. However we are a different animal now. If we can mix it Bromley on their patch and come away disappointed with a draw, we should not fear going to Shrewsbury. If our attitude an approach is right we can get all 3 points COYP!
  24. Couldn't agree more! We can see Port Vale have struggled and Donny and Wimbledon haven't pulled up any trees. When we go up we want to stay up. The way we try to play is a good basis for doing that along with some additions to the squad.
  25. I have gone for Jodi, it's great to see him back to his best. His ability to cross the ball in the way he does must be a delight to any striker. I think when Jatta is back we will see the rewards of it more. I nearly went for Platt, he was key to dealing with Bromley's constant balls into the box, but Jodi's composure to take the penalty just did it for me.
