  1. It looks like at the moment we are going to do the usual run-in tail off. Now is the time to start putting results together like MK Dons and Cambridge. Bromley's style of play is well suited to succeed at the business end of the season. It looks like these three could secure automatic promotion. Ill discipline could cost us. Who is going to lead the line on Tuesday night? If we win the next two matches, then it's game on! If we lose any more ground it's paly-offs.
  2. We are as good as anyone in this league. For automatic promotion, we have to get our injured players back. With a full squad and the team spirit we have at present, we can definitely get top three.
  3. I have gone for Ollie Norburn as well. Not just for the goal and the pass, but his drive and experience. He is a real leader on the pitch. I think we would have gotten more from the Grimsby game had he played. We need him fit for the run-in. I also wouldn’t be opposed to playing Bennetts as a number 10. I don’t think Connor Grant or Tyrese Hall offer enough of a threat in that role. They have technical ability, but just a bit lightweight against physical teams.
  4. No one was perfect yesterday, but still some good performances. Defence was good, we are defending set pieces so much better this season. I wish we could find a way to get Rod McDonald into the team without dropping Matty Platt. My vote goes to Tom Iorpenda, he was playing a deeper role and yet managed to nearly get on the end of a Jodi cross. I feel he typified the desire even with 10 men to get something from the game.
  5. Grimsby are a team that remind of us in past seasons. Like to play football, but have a soft side to them. We are much more aggressive in the press this year and have a more physical side to us. I think that will give us edge in this game and we can get all three points. At the same time like with any game in this league if you don't perform your best you can get beat by anyone. I think for that reason I would start Ndlovu up front and if Dennis starts play him as a 10 otherwise put him on the bench for later in the game. If Norburn and Palmer are not fit, then Iorpenda alongside Robertson would work well in midfield.
  6. Yesterdays result and performance puts the Shrewsbury game into perspective. Those defeats happen to the best of teams and as has been said before it's how you respond and wow did we respond. I just hope Ollie Norburn's injury isn't too serious he is very important for us. Having said that it was 1-0 when he went off and 5-0 by the end. What a great squad we have at the moment and great to Rod McDonald back in contention. We're going to need everyone for the run in!
  7. There were a number of candidates yesterday not least Tom Iorpenda who was magnificent all game. But I have gone for Lee Ndlovu. I just felt he gave us something different. His strength, pace and willingness to run on to balls over the top was something we've not see for a while. With him in the side or coming off the bench just gives another option to attack teams. Not to forget he scored two goals and could easily had a hat-trick.
  8. As disappointing as it was to lose to Shrewsbury, it was only 1-0. Any team team can lose 1-0 to an inferior team especially when they approach the game with a low block and a 'survival' game plan. As @DangerousSausage says we move on, these kind of games happen in a season. A good result on Saturday and this will all be forgotten. COYP!
  9. The fact that Gavin Cowans is their new manager is the thing that concerns me. He got his tactics right against in the FA cup and knows how we play. Add to that the new manager bounce factor, this is not going to be easy. However we are a different animal now. If we can mix it Bromley on their patch and come away disappointed with a draw, we should not fear going to Shrewsbury. If our attitude an approach is right we can get all 3 points COYP!
  10. Couldn't agree more! We can see Port Vale have struggled and Donny and Wimbledon haven't pulled up any trees. When we go up we want to stay up. The way we try to play is a good basis for doing that along with some additions to the squad.
  11. I have gone for Jodi, it's great to see him back to his best. His ability to cross the ball in the way he does must be a delight to any striker. I think when Jatta is back we will see the rewards of it more. I nearly went for Platt, he was key to dealing with Bromley's constant balls into the box, but Jodi's composure to take the penalty just did it for me.
  12. Although 1-1 was probably a fair result, I was really proud of the boys yesterday. They stood up to the physicality and aerial bombardment from Bromley really well. Notts were the only team trying to play football. I listened to Andy Woodman's post match interview and I think he must be detached from reality to think Bromley should have won the game. He was probably frustrated that their style of play didn't work. I agree with@DangerousSausage Just as was the situation with Lincoln was, we to some degree yesterday sussed them out and they were quite ineffective, with only one shot on target. Others teams will work it out and we could see them drop down the table. I would much rather watch a Notts team trying to play football with skill and purpose than a team that at every opportunity just lumps the the ball in the box hoping to cause chaos and score from it.
  13. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0n0nmqt Nice interview with Luke Williams.
  14. Heart says Championship, but head says League 1. Which when we consider the mess we were in when we were relegated to the National League is a good return from the brothers management of the club. Well run clubs like Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford didn’t do overnight. They have been able sustain their place in the Premier League. Unlike others who make it and then drop through the leagues like a stone!
  15. It’s a dangerous thing to be top of the table too early. Walsall and Gillingham to mention a couple in recent times shows that. Bromley have always been ready to talk about being the “underdog” “punching above their weight “ well being top of the league brings with it a different kind of pressure. They are now the ones to be shot at. When they finally lose their unbeaten record, whether it’s to Notts or someone else, it will be interesting to see how they respond. We should have no fear in playing Bromley, they are just another League 2 team. They are not better than Mk Dons or Swindon who we have already beaten.
  16. My vote goes to Lewis Macari, I thought he was great going forward always available for the overlap and solid at the back. He has been consistently good for a while now. He makes some important tackles and is composed on the ball.
  17. It seems to be a trend of late that we get ourselves into a winning position and find ourselves hanging on for the win. Next week against Bromley, if we are hanging on for a draw or win I suspect we will come unstuck against the masters of the late goal. I just hope Norburn and Robertson are fit or we could be in trouble.
  18. I think it’s a sign that the recruitment is going in a slightly different direction. We have tended to sign young talented players with technical skills that have a sell on value. While that is still the case in some instances, they realize that to get out of league 2 more is needed. While we have signed Luke Browne our defensive options are strong so he has time to bed in. Whereas Lee Ndlovu and James Belshaw are ready to make an impact. Beck-Ray Enoru is probably somewhere in the middle.
  19. Accy's win last night definitely softens the blow of the them beating us! As @Robbie says its vital we don't slip up against Barrow. A sign of a good team is to go all out and win decisively and make the previous wins really count!
  20. In his post match interview after the Gillingham game, Martin Paterson said there are lots of things we can do better. What might some of those things be? For me while we are now competing well against the physical aggressive foulers and shirt pullers of the division, we seem to lose our composure and give the ball away cheaply as the game progresses. The last two games we seem to be hanging on instead of being in control. If we can improve in that area (getting a second goal would help) we have a real chance of automatic promotion.
  21. Agree@Robbie this one could be another battle! I just hope fatigue doesn’t affect the performance. A poor pitch last Saturday and the physicality of the game could take its toll. If we can perform to our recent levels, we can win. COYP!
  22. This was a game that was short on quality, but that wasn't Notts's fault. The pitch played a massive part, not to mention the anti-football tactics of Fleetwood which the ref did nothing about. So for me a man of the match would be a player who led the way in passion graft and determination. For me it has to be Ollie Norburn. His celebration for the second goal typified it for me.
  23. We have the best two strikers in the league with Ndlovu as good backup. Jodi is back to his best and a good strong defence and midfield. If we don't have a strong end to the season, we will only have ourselves to blame. The owners have shown ambition while at the same time balancing the finances. MP and his coaching team are moving us in the right direction. It's up to the players now to do it on the Pitch. COYP!
  24. It could have been any one of a number of players, some really good individual performances. I'm going for Jatta, just thought it was his best game for a long time. His hold up play and control was good, he ran and ran. A good all round performance.
