  1. Tonight’s performance might tell us why we didn’t sign anyone on deadline day. Hopefully!
  2. @Fan of Big Tone, that's the good thing about this forum. Here people respect one another's opinions and don't jump on every grammatical mistake that's made.
  3. As @Chris, says, the right players were probably were not available. We have been down the route of panic signing for the sake of a signing and it hasn't worked. I think it's better to manage till January and have a clearer idea what we actually need and make a push for promotion in the second half of the season.
  4. We will just have to hope we don’t get a lot of injuries and that the January window is more successful this time around than in previous years. There is still the free agent market, but I’d be surprised if that produces any real gems. I get the feeling financial constraints are at play here.
  5. I think Jeff Hughes played for Lincoln some time before he joined us if I remember right. I believe he left us for Fleetwood.
  6. Michael O'Connor, was really sad to see him leave for Lincoln. He had been a really good player for us at the time.
  7. Transfer deadline day. What are we expecting? Any ins or outs? I would be surprised, but stranger things have happened. Maybe we will see some loans to the National League after today.
  8. I suppose whatever the reason Roos punches instead of catching is, teams we play will have done their homework. League two teams don’t need an excuse to bombard our box with crosses! Time will tell if this is going to be a problem.
  9. No sarcasm intended @Wheelbarrow repair man, just a genuine thought. But there has been some good replies to the conundrum, so it's good to get a rounded out view. That's the beauty of forums like this!
  10. It’s fair to say Kelle Roos has come in for quiet a bit of criticism because more often than not he punches the crosses rather than catches them. This is seen as a weakness on his part, a lack of confidence. Could there be an alternative reason? Could it be that punching the ball (providing good distance is achieved) is less risky that catching? A spilled catch will most likely lead to a goal, whereas a punch is easier to execute and less risky if it goes wrong. Just a thought, controversial I know....
  11. I voted for Palmer, but having watched back the full match replay, it could easily have been McDonald.
  12. Great result! Could this be the start of two up front! One thing for certain MP can't drop Dennis. 3 game unbeaten run. Gradually gelling as a team.
  13. I watched the highlights of the Tranmere V Gillingham game and to be honest I wasn’t particularly impressed with either, especially Gillingham. If we can re-produce the first half performance against Bromley for 90 minutes, we will be a match for anyone in this league. Start Jatta on the bench today and let him loose for the final 20 minutes. No defence would be looking forward to that!
  14. Martin Paterson has said that being head coach of Notts County is a very good job to have in football. I think it’s a job he would very much like to keep. So maybe he doesn’t deep down agree with everything that’s being done at moment, but is a price worth paying to keep a top job at this level.
  15. From what I can see he can't get in the Barnet team. Surely we wouldn't be paying a fee for him.
  16. You get the feeling that because it's taken so long to bring someone in, that the most likely scenario is we are waiting on premiere league club transfer chain so they can release a loan player.
  17. I like the way Matt Palmer passes the ball to another player and then follows it, ready to receive a pass if the player is closed down. That worked well on Saturday. There were a few times he received the ball back and was in acres of space as result to run forward with the ball.
  18. Are we happy with where the club is currently? Some may feel under the Reedtz brothers in their 6-year tenure we have gone backwards. Recruitment has been poor and uninspired by the appointment of Martin Paterson. We might look at Wrexham and Stockport who were with us in the National League and compare their progress to ours. Personally, I think we have to put our current situation into context. There are significant differences. For the most part Wrexham and Stockport have had the same manger from the start of their “journey” till now. They play the same style of football but have had the finance to bring in players from higher levels who play that same brand of football. (hence why we couldn’t keep Didzy) In our case since the Reedtz brothers took over we have had 5 head coaches in 6 years. Two of them were poached by clubs higher up the football pyramid. We have also had our best players poached. Wooton, Roberts, Rodrigues, Langstaff, Crowley and Bass. With Wrexham and Stockport their so-called best players have been sold to lower-level clubs. They have replaced them with better ones due to their financial status. In a word these teams have had continuity, but our progress has been hindered by the above. So where does that leave us now? We play a brand of football that when the team is gelling is great to watch. It takes time to achieve. Especially with the interruptions to our progress as already mentioned. We have also had to tweak the way we place to make us more solid at the back without losing our potency in the final third. I thought we started to see signs of that against a very physical Bromley team. Yes we are not the finished article, but I feel Paterson has the drive and work ethic to make it work. With the transfer window still open and the January one to come, I think in view of the context, our progress report for now doing ok, but there is still more work to be done. COYP!
  19. There is a real player there in Matt Dennis. Scores a great individual goal and then scores a great header against Bromley of all teams, that in itself deserves the man of the match award!
  20. Overall we were better today I see definite progress. We played some good football at times and generally defended well against a very physical side that pump balls into the box. We could have won that game but for a deflected equaliser. We have started an unbeaten run. Onwards and upwards.
  21. I think MP will start the same 11 from the last game providing there are no injuries. He could changed things to try and outwit the opposition, but sometimes you can over think it tactically to the detriment of the performance.
  22. That conspiracy thought has crossed my mind. Just doesn't seem in keeping with MP's "being honest" mantra.
  23. Jatta being injured is definitely sounds suspicious. MP's interview suggested it to me. He said he had trained safely and that Jatta had reported the back spasm. Not something found by the medical team. Sounds like advice from his agent if you ask me. Five games without playing you would be desperate to be involved. Watch this space. It's seems transfer activity is afoot!
  24. What should be our tactics for the Bromley game? One thing for sure Andy Woodman will have analysed our recent matches. What conclusion will he have made? Roos doesn't come for crosses, punches rather than catches. Simple: get crosses into the box. After all Cheek scores a lot of his goals from inside the box. Lots of crosses into the box will cause all kinds of panic. What do we do to counter it? Stop crosses, don't give up possession needlessly. Anything else?
