Notts County have taken another giant step towards sealing a League Two playoff place with a 3-1 win at Colchester United. The U's had taken the lead after just nine minutes through Drey Wright at the Weston Homes Community Stadium before John McGreal’s side hit the post early after the break. However, the Magpies stormed back in the second half as Jonathan Forte, Shola Ameobi and Richard Duffy sealed a memorable comeback for Kevin Nolan's side. Tom Eastman hit the post for Colchester but Notts hung on to claim a comeback victory that sees them sit four points off the automatic promotion spots Here is some of the post-match reaction from the events in Essex. Kevin Nolan "We had a few choice words at half-time. I just feel we didn't match the high standards we set last week. "I challenged them to get back to that level as quickly as possible and show the togetherness, character and spirit they've shown all season. "We were lucky to get in at 1-0 but I thought the goals we scored were fantastic and they came at the right time. "The lads' character was absolutely brilliant in the second half and I thought we were well-deserved winners." Richard Duffy “We were not good in the first half to say the least and we didn’t do what we were told to do. “We have instructions and things on the board which tells us what we need to do to win games and we didn’t do any of it. “They hit the post early doors in the second half but apart from that and when we scored the goal, there was only going to be one team who won it. “I’ve seen the manager angrier but he said what he thought and I don’t think anybody could disagree with him. “He walked out and the lads got together and had a quick chat. We got some more instructions and gladly we came out and put in a performance. “We had intent, we got it forward and we won a lot more second balls. The back four got up and in the first half we didn’t do that. “They found pockets and were playing through us and big Adam Collin made a fantastic save to keep it at 1-0. “If you are not playing well being a goal down allows you to regroup at half-time and you go again. That’s what we did and we scored three good goals.” The Black & White Army Dave Woolley: Absolutely wonderful 2nd half well done again JF 3 in 2 games ! That’s a strikers return.... fantastic. Mariusz Cwiklinski: Well, looks like Forte is taking his long overdue chance, good lad Tracy Rigby: ️️ Mark Rogers: Automatic promotion still not out of the question COYPs Neale Tristram: Top result after a nervous first half Andrew Rayson: Well done Notts, and well done Nolan for sticking to what worked the previous week for once. It is actually really refreshing to have reason to hand out praise all round for a change...Those on here who constantly disagree with me enough to mock me and doubt my support for the team; read the above Carefully. Christopher Key: Up a place to 4th! Really happy with that. Claire N Shane Wigley: Backto winning ways Mr Nolan David Skelding: Great team spirit to turn that around! Let's get that play-off spot in the bag! Notts County are now seven points adrift of League Two's automatic promotion places as they were beaten 1-0 at Accrington Stanley on Easter Monday. Mark Hughes's early goal was enough to settle the game between the sides at the Wham Stadium as the Magpies slipped to fifth in the table. Notts wasted three gilt-edged opportunities to equalise with Jonathan Forte hitting the bar, while Matty Virtue and substitute Jorge Grant both shot wide when unmarked. With Stanley winning, and Luton Town and Wycombe Wanderers also recording victories, Kevin Nolan's side face a mountain to get back into the top three, and surely the target must now be remaining in the playoffs. How did the Notts contingent and fans react to the loss? Here is a round-up of some of the post-match reaction. Kevin Nolan "We didn't put them under enough pressure. We had very good possession but we didn't put it in the right areas. "We had two glorious opportunities and didn't put either in the back of the net. When you do that, it changes the game. "I thought we more than matched them in a few areas and Adam Collin made some good saves, which is the difference. "Our goalkeeper has had to make saves whereas we have had opportunities to get shots in and we haven't made the goalkeeper work, which is the most disappointing part of it." The Black & White Army Mark Connors: Shut up moaning KN is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t - if he had named an unchanged side the moaners would have slated him - at the end of the day we are a middle table side who KN has motivated to do better,we have run out of steam and need the fans to try to get us in the playoffs by getting behind the lads not keep moaning and criticising Kevin Hopcroft: Hang on we are away at top of the league. This is a team that is beating everyone. I would have taken a draw. Admitted we need a quick striker. But lets remember where we have been the last few seasons. This is progress just need to buy in a few positions. I can not stand the haters coming out when we lose. The re build was mid table this season and push for promotion next season. We have been over achieving. In Hardy and Nolan we trust. COYP Matt Craig: Same old **** nolans tactically inept 1 shot on target all game nolan out Neale Tristram What on earth happened over Christmas?? We've gone back to playing like we did before Nolan! Play offs looking dodgy with 2 points from 12 which isn't going to keep us in the top 7! Big clear out in the summer. Craig Spencer: just got back and we lost to the better side.end of. Coventry city 3 points at the lane plz#and to all the nolan moaners YOU KNOW IF HE f@@ks off somewhere else i hope your happy.its a crucial stage of the season UNITY IS NEEDED NOTTS FANS ;CMON UNITE AND LETS GET THE LADS OVER THE FINISH LINE.YOU PIES #BIG SHOUT TO NOTTS CO SUPPORTERS CLUB 1947 FOR A GREAT DAY OUT!! Andy Whibberley: Can't believe people are calling for Nolan to go. The endless managerial merrygoround at Notts was a disaster on the pitch and made the club a joke. Coleman has been at Accrington a total of around 15 years. Or about 25 managers in Notts terms. Look where consistency gets you. Sheridan is doing well again. Shall we get him back?? Adrian Wheatley: Just can not put the ball in the net if the rumours are right sign up Ranger till the end of the season or we won’t even make the play offs Will Hart: At the beginning of the season I was hoping for a top 10 position based on the fact this season was all about stability. Therefore a bonus if we make the playoffs. Darren Handley: Blah blah blah for the people that have a bad opinion about the bad tactics I wouldn’t waste your breath as the nodding dogs who was nodding away with the trews will always call you a non Notts supporter these noddies would still be happy if we was in non league.it was in trew we trust now it’s in hardy we trust another business man with no football brain but hey wait untill we get new hotels we can all be buzzing about that Luke James: Well played Nolan! what a half hearted attempt at a vital game in the season. We will be lucky to get play offs on this form. Spencer Burrows: we've been poor for some time now, we're not even good enough for the play offs. Nigel Trueman: No surprise tbf. playing mid table results wise. fully expect to finish outside the playoff places and sorry to say it but with a rebuild required next season a mid-table finish David Nicholls: We've **** it now.... playoffs at best... 2 points from 12 isn't it.... that's not the performance of winners.... Martyn Malone: Was never going to win there even with 7 changes bye bye Automatic might just make playoffs at this rate Share your thoughts about the match on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans. Notts County were held to a goalless draw in Saturday's League Two match away at Newport County. The Magpies were forced to settle for a share of the spoils at Rodney Parade in a game of few clear-cut chances. Notts were more dangerous than their opponents, with Lewis Alessandra and Jon Stead both going close, but neither side could find a breakthrough in South Wales. Here is a compilation from the key post-match reaction from boss Kevin Nolan, defender Carl Dickinson, and as always the Black & White Army commenting on Pride of Nottingham! Kevin Nolan "You have to respect the point. It was a difficult game on a difficult pitch in difficult conditions but I thought the lads handled it well and we looked rock solid defensively. "We needed a bit more patience and quality in the final third to take three points. "But we've taken four points from our last two games, which I am really positive about, and I'm looking forward to another tough game at Cambridge on Tuesday. "I'm delighted with the point and clean sheet - it had been a while - but we have to build on it now. If we continue to keep clean sheets it will give us an opportunity to get a lot of points on the board." Carl Dickinson "It wasn't the prettiest of games to play in but we dealt with everything they threw at us really well. "We looked comfortable and I thought if any team was going to score it was going to be us. "We've got a point and clean sheet away from home so we will take that and now look forward to Cambridge on Tuesday. "We need to make sure we keep as many clean sheets as possible in the final 13 games of the season because it will only help us. "We have to make sure we keep our heads down, work as hard as possible and do the basics well. If we do that I am sure we will win more games than we lose." The Black & White Army TheSkipper: Two scrappy teams which neither side was able to put in a proper performance. I think from the Notts perspective this is my biggest worry the fact we are woeful and lack that finishing required to win games. Stead missed a few good chances yesterday. Peter Chalkley: If we don’t go up it won’t be through bottling it as such, it will because we just aren’t quite good enough. If we aren’t good enough I’d prefer not to go up. Without major overhaul we would be easy picking playing ugly football in league one and crowds would soon fall again. We need to get promoted on the back of players who we can keep next year, losing Yates may well be a blessing. Nick Norman: I've been a season ticket holder for a very long time but I'm sick of a team that starts a season well then bottles it and Nolans tatics are becoming awful. We were lucky Tuesday. Players season after season not good enough. I won't be buying a season ticket next season to watch league 2 shite. Look at Accrington. Crap budget but got the right players. We got over paid clowns. Phil Buxton: Any team celebrating a point at lowly Newport are not promotion hopefuls. Love Alan HARDY (Absolutely)Love Kevin Nolan (Absolutely) Love NCFC (Absolutely). Love a new STRIKER. (Absolutely) Act now or we will fall short of our expectations. COYP. Peter Chalkley: I think people confuse ambition and financial suicide. We’ve had a great little cup run and will lose about £600k rather than £1mill this year. I don’t know who people thought we would get but we are short a central defender and a stringer still, tag on a fee or two and £15k a week minimum in a wages between them and you would need to guarantee promotion and big crowds to not be in trouble for next season. We’ve just seen what an injury can do to a January signing. It’s a real shame the season started so far and then faulted. Had we got to this stage without all the weeks top two we’d have been over the moon! Notts County put in arguably one of the worst performances of the season on Saturday as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Barnet. The League Two's basement side more than matched their opponents for the majority of the game at the Hive Stadium before grabbing the winner in injury time. A lump upfield by goalkeeper Craig Ross bounced kindly for Alex Nicholls, who raced onto the ball, got the better of his markets and lashed home past Adam Collin to give the Bees all three points. The result leaves the Magpies fourth in the table, two points behind third-placed Wycombe Wanderers and just four points ahead of eighth-placed Lincoln City. What was the reaction to the game? Pride of Nottingham has compiled some of the key post-match reaction. Kevin Nolan "We were totally poor. We couldn't pass the ball to one another today. I told them that after the game and I cannot protect them because that performance is not good enough for me. "We didn't work the goalkeeper well enough. They have got to buck their ideas up quickly or we will have more afternoons like that. "The amount of pressure they put on us was minimal. They didn't allow us to play and fair play to Barnet. They are going to scrap because they're bottom of the league and they need to win games. "When we have so many fans here sitting in those conditions, they deserve to have a go at us because the performance is not acceptable by the standards we have set ourselves." The Black & White Army on the PON forum and social media Liampie: i dont think we should overreact we only lost 1-0. i do think the players need to improve and kn needs to accept his part in this. people have said that he does not change things and theres no accountability during games, first half sounded dire but kn waits until half time to try and address it? i just think its disappointing. we have the ability to gain promotion and the inner fighting is leading to the instability imo. ARLukomski: All started with that formation change against Exeter. Lost. Stook without it against Crawley. Lost again. Oh yeah then we play 4-4-2 against Swansea and we play well. What a surprise. Then we beat Crewe with 4-4-2 and it’s all looking good but no. A normal team bows out with pride like Newport did but no. Absolutely not. We get ripped apart against Swansea 8-1. It’s not acceptable to lose 8-1 at any level whether it’s Sunday League or Premier League. Another change of formation this time to 4-4-1-1 in which we gave a performance where we did not look bothered. Not one bit. On tv, against a Premier League side. How do you not get motivated for that? Then today. We used the right formation but by the sounds, we didn’t turn up yet again and we took the opposition lightly like we did against Oxford City and Crawley. We constantly hoof it when Nolan clearly knows we play better when we play it on the ground. Defenders constantly hoof it upfield and kick it out of play when they have so much time on the ball. Nolan also knew the risk of signing Bennett who had problems with injuries in the past. I said get Caolan Lavery but nope. And also, how does it take two weeks to sign a player. Is it really that difficult or were we in slow motion yet again? Grant hasn’t turned up last few games. Would definitely drop him for Tuesday. What happened to the fitness levels? Everyone seems to be ill or injured all the time. Collin couldn’t trap a bag of sand with his goalkeeping abilities. Put Fitzsimons in next game. A lot better keeper, even if he throws out Sweet Chin Music once in a while. And if there is fall out and back chat, drop the players who are doing it or rally the team together for a talk to try and gain some of the team spirit back that took us far earlier in the season. We haven’t fully bottled it yet but we are going that way if we don’t sort it out. There has to be a siege mentality now to bring us back up to where we were earlier in the season. Who r ya?? You Pies: KN for me was bang on to tell it how he observed it , if they are letting him down by not following a game plan then he should say so , and for me he should face the press media as he did win lose or draw , if he hadn't he would be criticized for that so no win , there needs to be a strong manager who manages players need to know there place in the scheme of things , the big test now is will they respond positively or is KN in trouble , we are still 4th so come on show some humility players and get back at it. Melvyn Chambers: I am absolutely gutted with recent form. When we look back 12 months we were in dire straits with the possibility of dropping out of the league but we succeeded in pulling clear. The first half of this season we really deserved to be up there challenging for automatic promotion and with the promise of stellar signings I really thought this was going to get us to our goal ( Automatic Promotion). But sadly I must face facts the team have bottled it and the so called stellar signing never materialised so I’m afraid it’s division 2 again next season. Jay Dalton: February is far too Early to concede automatic promotion if we win against curle out Carlisle then we'll be point behind Stanley and the race is back on notts need get cup exit out of there head forget the Barnet last minute goal re gain their confidence and push again its by far not out of question for outright promotion Marcus Brown: What has gone wrong ? In form we have been pretty poor since the beginning of Dec . Today's result is an after effect of being smashed mid week. I was praying for at least a 0-0 draw at the end . KN has big issues to sort out now. Jeremy Putman: Can't see us coming back from this. Far too many teams competing for those top places. Grant has been awful for ages now. Bennett's injury could be a massive blow given our lack of pace. Notts County earned a place in the hat for the fourth round of the FA Cup after beating Championship side Brentford 1-0 in Saturday's third-round encounter at Griffin Park. Despite playing two divisions above, the Bees were put to the sword as Jon Stead's superb second-half winner sealed the Magpies' passage to the fourth round of the competition. The draw for the next round will take place on Monday evening, with the possibility of a leading Premier League side being lined up to face Kevin Nolan's high-flyers. What was the reaction from the Notts boss, players and fans following the win? Here is a collection of the best post-match reaction. Kevin Nolan “I am delighted with the performance and it warranted the result. “You have to ride your luck when you come to quality teams and those sides who are above you and we did have that little bit of luck, but when you have the attitude, application and dedication to keep a clean sheet, then you earn it. “I am delighted for the boys because they have not been given the credit they deserve for what they have done in such a short space of time. “Hopefully we can continue on that path and I hope they all go away and enjoy this day because they don’t happen very often in your career. “They are going to experience highs and lows, but this is one of the highs. I am thrilled for every one of them.” Jon Stead “It’s incredible. I thought we were terrific from the first minute today and caused them problems. We were a little disappointed we didn’t create more with the half-chances we managed to get in the first half. “But in the second half we had to start brightly and I think we did that. From kick-off in the second half we looked strong and likely to get that goal. “I’m delighted with the goal. In the early part of my Notts career I was cutting in a lot on my left foot and producing decent shots and goals. This season and the back end of last season I’ve been spooning a lot of them over the bar so to get it right on this stage was really pleasing.” Players on social media The Black and White Army on PON Chris: Not the worst draw now we've won it ah? Kinda typical really. A lot of those who have moaned and bashed this tie will be hoping we draw United or a big club next, I hope for our sakes they don't jinx things and we end up with a less than impressive draw because Brentford wasn't that bad at all. Fantastic win, I'm delighted we secured the win without being forced into a reply. I knew it would be tight! Well done Notts. DangerousSausage: I for one would like us to draw a genuinely big club in the next round, or F*rest. Preferably at home. Sure, someone like Shrewsbury would give us a better chance of progression (although we'd still be outsiders), but going out to a team like that would be pretty anticlimactic. Donovan Bisset: Come on you pies!!!! Schani Dalton: Superb result super notts now let's have man u home coypieeees Peter Walker: Well done Notts brilliant result Piotr Madgwick: yyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeesss u ppppiiiieeeesss Jayne Briggs: Super pies well done lads Jay Dalton: get man city home be sellout coyp Marc Horridge: SUPA NOTTS! Clint Hadley: Now bring on the big boys Hayley Ryall: U pies x Neil Lowe: Now I did not expect that!!Brilliant,Notts!!COYP Colin Hodgson: Kevin Nolan's black and white army! Ian Ale Goode: Uuuu pies great result James Eley: Well done Notts. Let the good times roll. Paul Rothon: Youuuu Pieeeeeesssss!!!!!! Jimmy Gee: Good well deserved result! Christopher Key: Youuuuu Pies!! What a result!!! Lesley Gascoyne: Brilliant! The love triangle between Liam Noble, Notts County and Forest Green Rovers was a saga that lasted for a big chunk of the summer, with multiple failed bids and a war of words between the clubs' chairmen, and it appeared settled when the Nailsworth club tied their captain down to a new contract. But over the last week, it's emerged again and then exploded outright as Noble was ruled out through a medical issue, was released by mutual consent due to his desire to move closer to his family in the North East, and now he's been snapped up by the Magpies. To say the whole saga and subsequent acquisition of the 26-year-old has been divisive among the fanbase would be an understatement. Here, Pride of Nottingham has a look at some of the opinions surrounding Noblegate that have been shared on our social media pages. Notts County’s 10-game unbeaten run has come to an end as two goals from Mansfield Town forward Danny Rose condemned the Pies to a 3-1 derby defeat at the One Call Stadium. Rose pounced on a miscued headed backpass from Magpies captain Richard Duffy to guide the ball over Adam Collin, before adding a second from close range. Duffy’s own goal then capped off a miserable afternoon for the visitors, although Carl Dickinson did salvage a late consolation via a free kick. Here is what the Notts boss, some of the players and several fans had to say following the game. Kevin Nolan “I don’t think it was the tempo of the game that we struggled with, they just hit it high and long and we didn’t deal with it as well as we have done in previous games. “They harassed and they got in and around us and made a nuisance of themselves. “They had quality when they needed it too. Danny Rose was really good and Alex MacDonald also stood out. “When they did get the ball forward they did make something happen. “But I have no qualms with the result. Sometimes you just have to walk away and say fair play and they were better than us on the day. And that was what happened.” Players on social media The fans (from the Mansfield match discussion) Elite_pie: The start to the season we have had has been brilliant, and way better than I thought possible so Nolan and the squad deserve a lot of praise for their achievements so far. But I'm still full of anger and disappointment at the pitiful display we gave yesterday. Of all the places for the run to end, you just knew it would be there. When the inbreds started chanting "You're an embarrassment" I was 15 minutes ahead of them. I was thinking we were an embarrassment as soon as the third went in. It's becoming an annual humiliation, we seem to save our most inept display of the season for when we go there. It's the one game I want to win above all others, but yet again we handed them the points gift wrapped on a silver platter. This was a chance to put a hefty 12 point gap between the clubs and put serious pressure on Fatty Evans. Instead we've given their stuttering season a big boost. Even though I feared the worst, given the circumstances going into the game we blew it big time. Liampie: One game does not change or undo the good work being done. I just want to forget it and hope that it was nothing more than a one off. Chris: I wasn't impressed. I'm not saying this to be biased in any way, I've held back sharing my views so I could write my thoughts as clearly as I see them. I think the occasion firmly went out of the window before the kick off. The police didn't seem bothered, almost like it was an inconvenience for them to be attending the game (not all, but the majority I saw). I feel this, and certain stewards and barring on the impact before hand, there was one steward who was trying to have fights with fans before the getting into the ground. Mansfield looked brighter, they didn't seem nervous but I do think Field Mill was intimidating. Our players didn't look like a side that had been in decent form, in fact they didn't look like they knew each other. Richard Duffy was awful! but he wasn't the only awful thing yesterday. Mansfield was woeful on goal in the first half and resorted to diving at every opportunity, the referee for me really ruined the game. There was one free kick whereby a Stags player burst down the flanks and just dropped himself, there was no Notts player near to him but the referee still awarded him a free kick. It was baffling in truth! I do feel Mansfield played better, though if they call that a good performance god help them. It wasn't, they won because we simply was good at all and there was no 'team' visible from the Notts perspective. The score would probably be fairer at 2-1 but we made our own mistakes to grant the win to the Stags. Stewards were awful, they looked for trouble and there was a lot of biased behaviour. I can't accept we was poor, that we lost due to this and I can credit Mansfield for stopping us from playing - yet the club seems a disgrace when they hire people firmly looking to start trouble.
