Work has begun to install the statue of legendary Notts County managerial duo Jimmy Sirrel and Jack Wheeler outside Meadow Lane.

The Jimmy & Jack Memorial Fund met its target at the start of 2016, reaching a grand total of Β£102,000 thanks to a series of fundraising events over the last few years.

Construction workers began digging outside Meadow Lane on Tuesday, laying the groundworks for the statue and exposing the original cobblestones.

The public unveiling of the Jimmy & Jack statue will be at noon on Thursday 5th May, with lunch in the 1862 Suite for a 1pm start.

Excellent stuff.

However, am I alone in thinking that there's something a bit depressing about unveiling a statue to two club legends, and then watching the current side in "action"?

Hopefully Jimmy and Jack's likenesses will see better seasons than this one.

Like to think it could be inspirational , true legends , I don't use that term easy but my oh my they were .
