Here's a Guy who Doesn't Mind Getting His Hands Dirty, in the Lower League's Not afraid of taking on a Task the likes of Pep Guardiola Would Shy Away From. 5 Promotions as a Player and Manager/Coach, that's Impressive. Good Luck to the Guy, well until he plays the Magpies.

Yes, I'll be keeping an eye on this guy. I think it's a great move by Swindon to offer him an opportunity like this.

He one of those home grown managers that don't get the credit they deserve. He's a very good coach & I expect Swindon to get much better under Holloway.

So long as it's not against Notts, but when we meet them it will be a tough game, & Notts will need to be at their very best.

Oh dear. Ian Holloway has achieved nothing for years. Swindon are circling the drain and are in serious trouble.

His Wikipedia page contains an entertaining account of the utter chaos during his most recent job at Grimsby Town, which culminated in their relegation to the National League. He's been unemployed in the three years since they sacked him, publicly stating that he's lost his appetite for football. Not very promising.

@DangerousSausage

Well it seems the Swindon Owners are willing to take a Punt On Him. And his Absence from the Game, May have reignited his Passion for Football.

@DangerousSausage why are you writing Ian off without seeing how his new team performs over the next ten matches?

I don't see Luke Williams doing all that well at Swansea since his move from the Magpies, but it did work for him at Notts

This may be a good move for Swindon. Let's wait & see before we judge too quickly.

An in depth dive on Grimsby under Holloway

Ian Holloway arrived at Blundell Park to much excitement and fanfare, but after a brilliant few months, things unravelled quickly

As Manager of Blackpool, Ian Holloway got Blackpool promoted to the Premier League  from the Championship in 2010.

He nearly got them Promoted back to the Premier League in 2012 when they got to the playoffs final but lost to West Ham.

Of course Managers have lows in the course of a career, however good Managers have highs too, & getting a team such as Blackpool to the PL was quite an achievement.

@Robbie, I think the article @Piethagoram shared explains it very well. Once upon a time I'd have been delighted if IH joined us, but every job since he left Palace has been chaotic and ended in acrimony. There's a reason why a manager who took two clubs into the Premier League relatively recently has spent years without a job.

Didn't IH some years back dissed Notts County?

Like I said  @DangerousSausage I believe the guy should be judged by his results for Swindon. They got a creditable draw against Gillingham so that's a reasonable start for him.

Things didn't work out at Grimsby, but that was then. Now he has a chance to do a good job for them & I hope he does.

Not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me. I don't think he liked us much, going right back to his days at Bristol Rovers. He was playing for them when they controversially beat us in the Leyland DAF Trophy semi in 1990, so maybe relating to that? There's been a lot of needle between us and Rovers ever since.

Oh yes @DangerousSausageI remember that game... 1990! Time flies
