If the decision was to be made now, I would say no. I think he has till the end of the season to show that he is worth keeping.

If Notts were hoping that he would be a replacement for Dan Crowley, I don't think he is that type of player.

i think he looks a good prospect and can improve further, but its down to notts to make sure we get the most out of him. i would give him a longer deal, we cant expect all young players to be consistent but he does work hard. we need to push that and get the best charlie whitaker can be.

It’s tough because Edwards & Grant are contracted until next season and they play the same position. The problem for me is, I think he’s potentially a lot better than both, so can we have 3 players that aren't guaranteed starters vying for 1 position? Assuming Didzy stays and we sign another proven No.10 we would be overloaded as other players like Austin, Traore and Jarvis can always fill in behind a striker too.

That said I’d like him to stay, I think a pre-season with us will help him massively and considering he’s not even played 10 matches of proper football yet he’s done well. He looks very good on the ball and he’s got a great shot on him. But you can tell he’s played a lot of academy football, probably too much! At times it’s like he thinks he’ll get more time on the ball (which you do in non-competitive matches) and he’s easily knocked off the ball. I think this will improve with the more matches he plays. For me, he'll only get better.

It depends on wage demands for me. I think he's looking better each game as he adapts to League football. There are very few George Abbott's or Ryan Yates' who step in as if they've been doing it for years and most young players take time to adapt.

I'd be very happy to keep him and hope we can get an agreement.

With the likes of him and Jarvis, it allows us to get in some experience for balance.

Spot on @Simon Clark It's all about the wage demands. After yesterday, he is improving as a team player. You need that player that can shoot from the edge of the box. Something that Grant doesn't seem to have in his locker.

I would offer him a contract now. He's adjusted very well during the last few weeks, & he certainly gives us something in the attacking midfield area.

He has always shown great promise since joining, and has made it clear we don't need to worry about losing Dan Crowley. Our play from the back is now less predictable compared to when Crowley was in the team, though there are aspects of his game we still miss. Charlie Whitaker is proving he has a good eye for goal and the potential to become an important first-team player. It would be a mistake to overlook extending his contract. Now, it’s up to Notts to maximise his development and continue shaping him into a professional footballer.
