Pre Season Friendly: Notts County v Cardiff City

The last of the pre season friendly matches sees Notts host League one Cardiff City at Meadow Lane on Saturday 26th July, kick off 3pm.

This will be another good test for Notts against League one opposition. The type of match that Martin Paterson will welcome.

I think it will be an opportunity for Martin to play what he believes will be his strongest side available from his current 26 man squad

Hopefully Martin will know by now what his best available team is, he’s been working them hard in training by all accounts so hopefully they’ll put in a good account of themselves.

I think Martin Patterson’s Notts County will be more aggressive and tough tackling than we’ve seen in other seasons but I hope it’s controlled aggression, let’s not see any reckless challenges just good firm and fair tackles.

In his interview with Paul Mace, Martin did reveal that he is still assessing a few players when deciding which eleven will be his best available.

I do agree with @Fan of Big Tone that Notts will be more aggressive & tough tackling this season. I think that trait is required to fully compete with those physical teams in League 2.

Looking forwards to Saturdays friendly against Cardiff with positive expectations. I agree that by now Martin will know the players enough to be able to pick a competative and exciting side capable of giving Cardiff a run for their money. I also hope that fans raise the roof and welcome the boys in preparation for the new season. COYP.

I must find time to watch that interview.

Whilst the result is totally meaningless, to keep that optimism growing a good performance would really give us a boost before our first match of the season. It'll be a good test for us but if we start as slow as we did in Germany we could well end up a few goals down early doors. I'd imagine the starting line-up will be a lot closer to the one that will start at Newport, so I'd expect Roos to be in goal too.

It won’t be easy , Cardiff have some really talented players, and if they put out their best side, it’ll be a proper test for Notts. It should show how we handle both defending and attacking against a strong team. Cardiff look like they’ll be pushing hard to get back to the Championship. As for Notts, if we can stay solid at the back and make chances going forward, it’ll be a good sign.

Even though it’s only a friendly, with the season just around the corner, it’ll help us see which players are match-ready.

Martin has reported that he will pick his best available team today against Cardiff. Ollie Norburn will play a part in the match too, It will also be interesting who Martin picks as his Captain today.

I'm hoping for a good performance & a positive result that will give the players & the fanbase confidence going into the opening league match against Newport in a week's time.

That team is not good enough to go up at the moment. Everyone is there bar Traore, Robertson, Ness and Tsaroulla.

We're crying out for a CAM and a striker and it's so obvious. We need quality desperately. That squad will finish 11th at the moment. That's not negativity, that's realistic.

Martin has put out what he believes is his strongest eleven available. Looks like Jodi is in the number 10 role once again.

It's nice to see Norburn on the subs bench. I think he will be important to Notts this season. I see why Jatta isn't starting the match too.

Martin has already indicated that he wants to see some more signings, but they have to be better than what we have already.

Places are up for grabs in the first eleven. The team of last season we have to disregard. If players impress the Head Coach they will play.

I'm hoping for a good performance today. I'm sure the players will give their all at ML today.

Full time whistle has blown. Good draw against a top league one side.

An encouraging performance by the lads. Pity about the Cardiff 2nd goal but all in all Martin should be pleased with some of the Notts play today. Looks like the team is beginning to play as a Paterson team now.
