Wycombe Wanderers: Michael Duff replaces Mike Dodds as he...

League One strugglers Wycombe Wanderers name Michael Duff as their new head coach after sacking Mike Dodds.

I don't think Paterson would take up any invitation to take a number two job in League 1. Leaving a club not having established himself as a winner at his new club as Head Coach, would be a backward step in my estimation.

Of course it would be less pressure for him as a number two, but I do think Paterson is trying to establish himself as a leading EFL Head Coach.that could serve him well for his Career in football management.

head coach or assistant? he has a golden egg with notts if he can get the team performing better and winning games. whereas being the assistant does not really offer much or if that the same amount of security. wycombe are a good team, but michael duff might find it hard to keep his job.

In his first job Michael Duff managed without him, in fact his time at Cheltenham was probably his most successful stint. I don’t think it’ll happen, especially if Martin wants to be the main man now. I think picking up roles as part of a coaching team is a bit easier, getting in as a head-coach/manager is trickier.

I wouldn’t say the appointment is a safe one. Wycombe are going through a tough spell and things don’t seem to be settling down. Even teams with strong squads like Rotherham United are finding it hard in League One. I don’t see much changing for Wycombe any time soon.

Burton, Blackpool, Plymouth and Northampton all look like they’ll be near the bottom of the table. I expect them to be fighting to stay up.

Being devil's advocate, would Martin think that this squad is so unbalanced and lacking quality in certain areas, that being a #2 is preferable?

If he did think that being a number 2 was preferable, & incidentally, I don't think he would, he would prove to me that he was never the right man for the Notts job anyway, but I don't think he's a quilter, he's a can doer.
