So Didzy has signed for local rivals Mansfield Town. There will certainly be mixed emotions about this at the Lane.

Would you have welcomed him back at Meadow Lane if it had been possible a deal could have been done?

Following the money again. He was always going to follow the money, but it's a bit sad after all the talk of us being his boyhood club and wanting to play for us for free. If he'd just been honest and said football was just a job for him I'd have a lot more respect for him now.

It's moot now, but I'd have had mixed feelings about him signing for us again. He's still got it and scored 15 goals in L1 last season. But he was rumoured to be on 7k a week at Barnsley - we need to strengthen in a number of positions and I wouldn't feel comfortable splashing so much cash on one player.

Especially as he wont play many games

He had a great second season for us but no more pining for Didzy

Bottom line is we couldn't win promotion with him, we only acheived that after he'd gone. In the end we didn't need him to achieve our goals.

There's not doubting McGoldrick in terms of having that quality to make things happen in the final third but as others have said you have to manage his minutes properly and spend a large chunk of the budget to get him. And we’d possibly have to alter the way we play because he’s not really suited to the off the ball pressing Martin Paterson wants.

He’ll also be 39 later this year and you just never know when the legs will go. I can remember the likes of Alan Smith, Gary Jones and Hayden Mullins all looking pretty good at the start of the season but by the end they could barely run.

I probably wouldn’t have said no to his return but I’m not gutted, well as long has he doesn’t score against us next season!
