Clubs merging?

An article in the independent on whether two clubs from the same city/town could or should merge...

Good god, I remember the issues over ground sharing, but merge... with them.... there are limits in this life you know...

your thoughts?

I recall twice it looked likely this would happen to us, it's a stupid idea really.

Majority of clubs have a non league side with a similar name or play in the same location. Should they combined? No I think it's important for clubs to have their own identity.

I suspect only cities or towns whereby there is little sporting rivalry or perhaps if the two clubs had financial difficulties would the fans actually support such an idea like this.

There will always be someone who is the exception, it will just be hard to find them 'voice' it.

Well the only people to say they would be open to this said, 'Only if we play in black and white and call ourselves Notts County Football Club and remain at Meadow Lane'. Haha!

Wouldn't work for either set of fans to be fair. They would hate the idea as much as we would. In fact the crowd would probably consist of one man and his dog. I think I'd rather go and watch Mansfailed than a merged city team.

The ground share was always an interesting debate, but again would never work.

I've always thought that, love Meadow Lane though I do, we need a smaller stadium on the outskirts on Notts. In fact Eagle Valley would be perfect to build a 10-12k stadium with car parking etc...if they could get the land!

I agree with @hissingdwarf on this... our ground is too big for us... a nice family stadium with plenty of parking and good access and good facilities for corporate like Mr Trew is proceeding with a capacity up to 15000 is right IMO

Ground sharing should never happen, nothing wrong with meadow lane at all. Us playing at their ground would look worse than it currently does!

One of the worst researched articles I've ever read! Never mind the issues. A majority of all football clubs are mergers. Where does he think the moniker "United" comes from?

Some are successful some not. He quotes ICT but not ES Clydebank, Dag and Red but not Rushden and Diamonds etc. Why do the press employ such clueless people?
