Baby girl found on bench in Hailesland Park in Edinburgh

A newborn baby girl is being looked after in hospital after being found on a street bench in Edinburgh.

The baby was discovered in Hailesland Park, behind Kilncroft Stair, at about 12:55 by a passer-by who phoned the police.

Police Scotland said there was no sign of the baby's mother in the area, who medics advise will require urgent medical attention.

Officers said they were concerned for the wellbeing of the mother.

The baby was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where she is being looked after by staff.

Ch Insp Richard Thomas said: "We are greatly concerned for the wellbeing of this baby girl's mother and are urging her to seek medical attention.

"We would ask anyone who might know who the mother is to encourage her to see a doctor urgently."

Must not be easy, I know others may be quick to judge and assume it's probably a young girl but we as humans should look beyond any pleasantries. Poor little angel

I agree with this. The mother should not be judged even if she left the baby on the bench. She was probably scared and was trying to do best by the child and thought that was best at the time. I do hope they find her and they are both ok.

The policewoman the baby is named after has bought Charlottte a Gemima Puddleduck doll and local residents are donating with other gifts.Charlotte will be placed in foster care . I can't find any news of the mother.

It's quite saddening, I hope they manage to find the mother before the child gets adopted. Hopefully our good friend 'CCTV' might aid the police other there, I just hope they're not like the UK's force, especially Nottingham's. Hoping for a happy ending!
