It's a pity that we were unable to sign him after taking him on loan during the Munto era. 

I seem to recall Charlie McP. saying that a price had been agreed...... but like everything else about the Munto times, the money just wasn't there.

We did sign him and he developed into an excellent player.

Our Italian manager was being allowed to spend excessively until the then Chairman said no more and decided to quit. Matt Ritchie was sold (donated?) to Bournemouth for a fee well below his value but apparently paid in full to enable running costs to be met. Cue manager's flamboyant resignation, fire sale of club and general turmoil.

Not quite your scenario but similar outcome.

Its a funny old game, Matt Richie always had a bright prospect - I'd have loved to see him and Judge compete together in a black & white shirt but heyho...

Tis always the last song to play as you depart the Kop stand also, go figure.
