Richard Duffy's contract clause

I've just been reading about how Duffy only had to play one more game when Nolan came in to trigger another 1 year deal, however Hardy asked him to have it removed and be selected and Duffy credit to him had it removed to play more, he's not the best defender in the world but what a gesture from the man. Hopefully he can help steer us to safety and maybe get a short term deal.

It's a nice gesture.

There may be an alternative reason, such as a financial benefit from avoiding the trigger. Perhaps he just wants to see how things go? Just saying. Regardless on the face of it, it is nice to see someone putting Notts County first.

Good on him. However, if that's how it was he probably had little choice - he had to choose between keeping the clause, not playing again and leaving, or dropping the clause, continuing to play and possibly getting a new deal. A no-brainer, surely?

Still, coasting to the end of the season and getting an automatic extension is now out of the question. Hopefully he'll put in the performances to justify a new deal.

I am not keen on hearing things like this, I'm just old fashioned but this type of information does nothing for the supporters. Would rather see him focus on his performances than to hear how he decided to waver an agreement in his contract.

In an era of grab what you can and the mercenary player its really good to see that there are still decent people out there.

I know what you're saying, but to be fair to Duffy I don't think it was him who made it public.  Colin Slater mentioned it to him in a post match interview, and Duffy didn't make a big thing of it.  He said the only alternative was to see his contract out and not play, so he decided to waive the clause.  He's not had a great start to his Notts career, but if he can continue to perform like he did on Saturday he will be worth another deal.
