Ian Barraclough, an ex Notts player who is now managing in Ireland with Sligo Rovers apparently so at least he has some experience.

He says he would be interested.

This would be an odd choice, particularly given his reaction to Notts fans last time he was here!

Certainly wouldn't be ineffective my favourite candidates, had a poor record at Scunthorpe and I don't really think that his Irish experience equips him for this situation. If it's him then I would support him and hope he is better than I anticipate. Underwhelming would be my initial reaction.

As long as we get an experienced manager that will do their best by the club i'm sure most fans will be happy. There is always some who arn't no matter what happens. We don't have the time to wait around to get one though as we cannot keep losing as many games as we have done so far.

It's a name which would bring feelings of Shorts appointment, ex players as managers doesn't work.

Would I mind him? Not really, but that doesn't mean he's in my top 3 of preferred managers. I actually don't know who the other two, although there's three rumours about Danny Wilson and if any of them are true, we no long have much ambition.

Agreed we need some one with league experience, who ever it is has to be here for the long term and have a chance of rebuilding next season whatever league we are in. Ex players with little or no  league experience have been a disaster eg Ian Richardson, Craig Short, Keith Curle and Chris Kiwomya, we don't need any more experiments.

Personally I wouldn't put Keith Curle in that category, I don't think he was ever a Notts player? Plus he did have experience as a manager with Mansfield, Chester and Torquay, I thought he was sacked too early, weren't we just out of the playoffs? I'd snap your hand off for that position now.

Here is his record at Notts: Played 51, Won 23, Drawn 14, Lost 14. Win % 45.10, Hardly disasterous!

We're now considering candidates with a percentage far less than 45% but I always insist that stats mean very little, the fact he started well - I do feel that if he continued to remain as manager we would be further down and that the players was losing faith in his managerial skills. The fact the football was dire and the results becoming far, far more concerning (with his experience) and the lack of changes or even desire to attempt to change games in our favour.

Had he have not been sacked, perhaps his percentage would have been below 40%, we'll never know.

We can just go on the fact that a better manager could have done more than him and due to a succession of sacking managers, we now find ourselves in position where the clubs not as attractive.

I don't care what Jim says, if we was still an attractive club the candidates would be far better. If his phones busy, it's not because a genuinely decent manager is hopeful for a position but other reason.

The best thing about Sean Derry would be the passion and enthusiasm he would bring (and thats not to say Chris didn't bring any of that). As a Notts County fan, he wouldnt want to see the club fail and he'd soon dig out any player he didn't feel was giving 100% to the cause. Plus he has a real never say die attitude as a player, so if he could implement that on the squad it'd be a plus.

But, at this moment in time this club is in a very dangerous situation. With 11 defeats from 15, it's a miracle that we're still only 3 points off safety but we're not in a position to take such a big gamble on an inexperienced manager. Look where thats got us. If we go and appoint someone else inexperienced it would be a complete waste of time replacing Chris.

This is without doubt the biggest appointment Ray Trew has made so far, and I truly think Danny Wilson is the best candidate we could realistically get right now. I know a lot of people have their doubts over him due to his play-off faliures with Swindon Town and Sheffield United, but look at where Sheff Utd have ended up since he left. He knows this league like the back of his hand and would know how to deal with the big egos, and he'd sound oust anyone who wasn't up for the fight.

Ray Trew has put a ridiculous amount of his own money into this football club and for that we should all be eternally grateful, but its time to get the chequebook out again. Searching for "the next Neil Warnock" is applaudable in that it's giving fresh faces a chance, but we are not in a position to allow somebody to "learn on the job" right now. Relegation would be disasterous.

As I said, this is his biggest appointment yet. Get it right - we move up the league and crowds go back up 1 or 2K. Get it wrong, we go down and crowds decrease even further.
