In-form youth team striker Colby Bishop has earned a scholarship with Notts County Football Club after an impressive trial.

Bishop has scored a remarkable nine goals in four appearances for the youth team.

The goals have seen the young Magpies put together a run of four consecutive wins and climb to sixth in the North East Youth Alliance.

Academy manager Mick Leonard was full of praise for the promising young striker and believes he can continue to improve as a full-time scholar.

If he buckle down and keep working, perhaps we will have our own grown striker? It's time now for us to be pushing lads like him, we need to reflect on the way we devolope them and make sure we work on the things they're weak at. I'd suggest we work this young Bishop on target practice, I am disappointed he didn't get 12 goals in 4 games... Hehe

Good Luck to the lad!

Good to see us bringing our own players through, ideally we need them to be food enough to start for our first team though. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be happening at the moment,

Will it be enough to keep bringing them through, there will be no more transfers like Jermaine Pennant for us.

The new deal forced upon us has seen an end to that. Just think £2,000,000. What we could do with that money now.

The only way to keep hold of our younger players, if they are that good, is to have a whole club set up that plays the youth heavily in the staring 11.

If they feel they have the chance to make it, then I am sure we could fight off the big clubs for a couple of years. Just long enough to get us the big fee.

Loaning them out would keep 'em safe for awhile also, I hope we try to get more of our youngsters experience. Curtis Thompson for example, he looks good and I think he's underrated but there's only one way to learn in football.

Being good only get's you so far, you have to apply it in proper games.

Good luck to this youngster, I'm sure he is what we need. Keep bringing them though!

I agree, with the game time in real matches. But why loan them out. All that means is we have to get somebody in to replace them, and other teams may benefit from our youngsters.

If we don't play them, we might as well look for other clubs to trial them and give 'em game time.

I think it's important that they start and establish themselves as early as possible, so League Two would be a good test for the majority. There's only a few who I would keep around and have sit on the bench, majority are raw like Curtis Thompson but show promising signs. If we don't give them game time, eventually they'll be released and what's the point in training them week in and out?

We really need to test our youngsters!

As all above, this is great news, but we need to get them into the team setup at some point.

All the young players discussed at the beginning of the season and look where that got us! Nangle, M-Moore etc... All good players in their own right, but need game time on a regular basis.

Time to enter a reserve league in my opinion. still not first team, but at least its more regular than the development squad games which happen occasionally at most.
