  1. Notts County have confirmed that the transfer embargo at the club has been lifted. Alan Hardy revealed the news during a Twitter Q&A on Friday, confirming that the Magpies could sign players again. Notts were under embargo for failing to make required payments to HM Revenue & Customs and other clubs during the Ray Trew era. Manager Kevin Nolan said on Thursday he was hopeful the Magpies could sign players "within 72 hours". The January transfer window shuts next Tuesday. Who would you like to see come to Meadow Lane? 2. Well if we slip out of the league, it's going to be interested how certain people continue defend and blame (like it helps?). Accept facts, we've been ran into the ground (for whatever people want to suggest). The embargo hasn't helped, the stalled takeover, the politics and the awful decisions before hand. Whoever came in would have an hard task keeping the ship up. It was barely floating before everyone abandoned it!
  3. Despite the transfer embargo at Notts County, there are still rumours about potential signings coming to Meadow Lane should the situation be resolved. In the mist of the rumour mill, is exactly the type of player the Magpies have famously became linked with under the Ray Trew era. By this, I refer to former Premier League players with a notably well-known name, yet with rather indistinctive careers. With Notts desperately seeking new signings - players of whom can make a significant impact - it's no doubt going to be a rush in order to sign anyone and this all depends on if the embargo is lifted within enough time to get rubber stamps (Football League approval). So upon hearing that we are being linked with former Chelsea and West Ham player Carlton Cole, it really does make my mind race as to if he would be any better than what we have had previous seasons. Yet I realise it could simply be a case of a temporary means, with all hinging on the previously mentioned restriction and of course if he would even join a League Two team. So who is Carlton Cole? Here is a quick fact file. Name: Carlton Michael George Cole Born: 12/10/1983 – Croydon, England Age: 33 Position: Striker Cole emerged through the Chelsea academy, establishing himself as a first team player in 2001. During 5 years he earned a total of 25 appearances for London club, netting 4 times. He had brief stints on loan with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic, and Aston Villa. Scoring 8 times in a combined 55 appearances. Later he joined West Ham in the 2006/17 season for an undisclosed fee. Whilst with the Hammers he enjoyed the best time in his career, scoring 55 times in 256 apperances. Since this he hasn’t featured much, however he joined Celtic in 2015 – later arriving at Sacramento Republic in the American second division. It’s questionable and debatable weather or not Carlton Cole has the ability to feature regularly or form part of a successful striker force. It would be interesting to see if he could work alongside Jon Stead, however I remain unconvinced. 4. Mr Fozzy, I do expect to be entertained by Crawley and I suspect they'll have plenty of shots so don't worry about that! What would be nice if Notts could manage to pass to each other enough to allow Jon Stead or whoever to take a chance for themselves, its depressing watching our defenders make it easy for the opposition - whilst we struggle to limit ourselves further up the field. Brave call though @Fozzy. I hope for your sake we don't concede, it all hands on the players heads and if they can lift themselves. Hopefully the Kop will be in fine form singing!
  5. I'm very much a positional player, place me anywhere in games and I'll do my best (Though defensively *with reason* I am poor). Yet some struggle to bring awareness, positional play and understanding of football - when playing. I say to Jake 'Football isn't about skill, there's more to it'. I hate how kids these days think step overs makes them as good as Messi. Find someone who can read the game, can move and pass and they'll be far better on the ball than someone who struggles but has skills as their only true ability. Really enjoyed this!
  6. One we should get something from right? I'm looking forward to the game but not the performance, but it could be different - I just suspect it won't be. Think we should load the wings but try to speak the play throughout the middle. We need to get balls onto the box and avoid the defence having to do to much. I can't add a prediction yet but I will.
  7. I wondered if this was the case when the comments came out, no doubt some will think its an easy excuse to get rid of someone failing on the pitch but really it does make a lot of sense. I personally want to move on now, so hopefully this will be forgotten in the past.
  8. Never seen him play but I have been told many stories about his quality, @GrannyPie will know why. Wished we had players of his iconic status around the club today - he would get the players showing some passion (as would most if not all of that era's golden players).
  9. Well Nolan sees what we have been for god knows how long, it's kind of ironic that he's the first manager who hasn't said we need more attacking options (like wingers are the reason we lose games). That said I hope we can find a tall striker and a creative midfielder. But yeah, get some proper defenders in.
  10. It's about right the result, we do need a bit of quality to push back upwards - without it (well it will be harder). No deflated, I did sort of feel it would happy.
  11. I suppose we will have to see how things pan out, however like many, I would love to see some youngsters included more. Players don't instantly become successful, you have to mentor them and assist 'em with adapting to the professional game. Experience is vital in any walk of life. Hopefully Notts can get the embargo lifted for the fact we need experienced players with that ready made quality. Yet there's no reason as to why we couldn't blood youngsters and if we ensure someone supports them in games, then we may have a fall back plan if squad numbers do become an issue.
  12. The atmosphere around Meadow Lane since the Notts County takeover has shown just how much fans wanted change, whilst the hope has remained in many prior to this – there is something refreshing about the club having found a ‘new hope’. After the dismissal of John Sheridan, I was probably in the minority camp that was disappointed to see the departure of the 12th manager at the helm of the Magpies since we gained promotion to League One in 2010. Yet the appointment of Kevin Nolan may not have appeased all Magpie fans, he does come very highly regarded from Leyton Orient fans who have spoken about how they would have liked to see him remain as their manager (rather than as a player/manager). Personally, as always I would have tried to get behind whoever came through the revolving door – for me it was vital from day one that we all regrouped as supporters of the world’s oldest professional league club. Whilst we have only seen a short glimpse into the ability that Nolan possesses, he does share some very intriguing traits as a player and his general approach to answering question isn’t a case of boring us to death with ‘football talk’ or beating around the bush. It’s certainly refreshing to see this surge of optimism - considering the predicament that the club finds itself in, it really does arrive at the most welcomed time. I honestly believe Nolan will be the type of manager who will revive the club's fortunes. It will be a slow, steady process, yet I have no doubt we will be better off with him around. The doom and gloom can make you quite depressed. You get used to seeing fans week in and week out, but as the weeks roll on, more and more faces are missing. You may not be aware of their names or know them personally, yet you will recall seeing them virtually every week. This is the feeling the club had prior to the takeover; so much credit is deserved to Alan Hardy for the fantastic turnaround and for the open dialogue with supporters. In addition to the fantastic offers being put out the by the club, it certainly goes a long way with reviving the lot feeling of anticipation on match days. I realise it will be cliché to say this, however I am going say it regardless – what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and the past three seasons certainly has seen us become stronger amongst the core who no doubt have found it hard to watch a Notts edging closer and closer to the non-league. Within various discussions within the Pride of Nottingham forum it has been said that relegation isn’t all that much to be worried about, but the detrimental effect it may have on the attendances is a source of anxiety for me. As our most recent opposition [insert joke about how many fingers they have] will no doubt know, the non-league is very difficult to get out of, what with having just two promotion places, as champions and as playoff winners. However, I won’t dwell on this – I would rather focus on not seeing the good vibes that currently surrounds our club evaporate, and any bleak, minor recollection of the past is laid to rest or forgotten. It’s time for the Magpies to rise, rebuild and challenge for respect – not just in the city of Nottingham but in the league we play in. The new era is full of more promise and worthy merit than any false dawns we may have had in the time. And provided the players who represent our club continue to improve under Nolan, things for shouldn’t be all that negative. The transfer embargo is not yet lifted, but the club is working hard to do so, and so we may see some quality added to the squad. It’s starting to feel like December all over again. It’s just a shame the takeover wasn’t able to happen then! You Pies! 13. Did I say that? Don't turn into one of them who quote part of a message in an effort to abstract from the original point. I want Notts to play attacking football, that is of the swift passing variety and that can break teams down with nice football (defending like a good military force would be also nice) but I would settle for reliable and semi strategic. No, as mentioned - I would like Notts to be able to field a few key stars, some grafters who make up a team and then reliable/good players scattered around. Grimsby have a team who pull their weight and rely on each other. I don't refer to the tactics that Bignot has them playing but compared to our current squad it wouldn't really be a bad thing (it's not doing them any harm). Though I would like to see Notts robust enough that the players considered to be key parts of the team shine - rather then the ***te we tend to get.
  14. Grimsby would be half the side they're now without Omar Boyle, don't get me wrong - they have some good players but really they're nothing special. Its the type of way I'd like Notts to be (perhaps with a few more quality players in the mix). Positive thing for them is that their squad understands how best to play with other, though if I not mistaken - wasn't they struggle not that long ago or at some point during the 2016-17 season? I can't quite remember when exactly that was but I would like to see Notts show some fighting spirit.
  15. Let's get it done so we can move forward towards lifting ourselves up the table. #COYP
  16. It's something I hope will continue, as it would be nice to get out and resolve the current issues being worked towards together. Fans can make a huge impact, if the support is given and likewise if it's appreciated. I think AH knows that we will rally behind the club and players, after all its what we fans do. Hopefully this season will be one which will lay the foundations for some success, yes build slowly but the rooting of the football club needs to be level.
  17. I love seeing so many happy and excited magpies, my timeline and social feeds (including PON's) have been full of optimism and hope. The players have had a lot of stick, though as Hardy and Nolan have said it's to be expected with losing 10 games in a row. Yet we have the foundations to push on, it sounded like Nolan has done wonders with the defence in short space of time. Fingers crossed when the defence finds their feet, the midfield will inter link and then chances upfront may come. It could look completely different if we can unlock the embargo but the belief is there and must remain at all cost. Will have to watch the highlights again.
  18. Solid point for us, cannot fault a goalless draw at all. It sounded like Meadow Lane found its groove back, so I'm very excited about going to the next home game. I had planned to go today, however I forget about the kick off time and it went out the window. It would have been nice to say hello to my friends @Italian Magpies. Looks like we had a bit of magic in the air and a lot of optimism. Hopefully the players continue to work hard, we have a HUGE task ahead of us.
  19. Haha Seany... LOL I hope its really him, though I should add the flag to my knowledge is owned by a fan. Former media members told me this after I tried to get it back, the person who used to get the flag out (told me it wouldn't return). I guess the takeover resolved that one. Forest friend told me today that he believes Notts will win because Mansfield will assume they will. Made a good case and point argument when you think about it, last year at home we assumed we would and it turned out wrong. We then believed better would come away from home, did it? No. Low expectations and a true passion for this club, lets have a go! COYP!!!
  20. Welcome to Meadow Lane Mr Nolan, hope you bring your fiery passion and 110% dedication. If your attitude passes off onto some of the players (I won't name any, we all know they're gentle petals) it will massively but really if certain people want a fresh start come on board now and help Kevin. This will either be a very good decision or, well I won't say it. Good Luck!
  21. I think this one is a must, the players have to battle and show their worth. The optimism needs to be on the up permanently, so if we can win or draw - it would be a good start. I expect Mansfield to be direct, play scrappy stuff and just try to insert power over our players. Time to show who's got a spine and any sort of passion for this club lads! Not confident by any means, yet I feel the atmosphere will be better. Only time will tell. Sorry, I forgot to amend the settings for this (it's automated). Had a lot on recently.
  22. The rebuilding can officially start now, its hopeful that we can really get behind the club and make a difference now. I do wished we could have before, however the majority of fans know how difficult things was. Good luck to Alan Hardy.
  23. Should never have lost 4-1, yet when players can't work together or try to present the fans that deserve it - you will always see the pastry crumble and the pies won't be there. It's beyond disappointing at this stage.
  24. This is really dire stuff, I hope we as fans can play our part - we need to try to do something. Yes its on the field that matters, plus Hardy needs to pull several quality rabbits out of his hat but we can either melt (and sink) or sink fighting. There's no doubt the players are awful and lack a spine to motivate them. This result should convince enough people that we are in major trouble.
  25. Plenty of praise for Osbourne, especially early on but having three players on the goal line is beyond parking the bus. This is really desperate and depressing stuff.
