Notts County has continued to strengthen their promotion chasing team with the signing of experienced Football League midfielder Matt Palmer. The 26-year-old had been made available for a free transfer after leaving Swindon Town last season. Having appeared more than 200 times within the Football League, Palmer arrives at Meadow Lane on a 2-year-deal. Notts County head coach, Ian Burchnall said: "We’ve brought in two very talented young midfielders in Ed Francis and Frank Vincent this summer, "So adding someone of Matt’s experience will give us great balance in the central area" He added. "Matt’s played more than 50 games in the Championship, around 80 in League One and nearly 100 in League Two "He brings a lot of know-how to the squad while, at the age of 26, he still has plenty to offer in terms of development and improvement. We’re looking at him playing a similar role to Jake Reeves towards the end of last season. "He could play deep, but we see him more as a box-to-box midfielder who can contribute to the attacking side of the game." Ian Burchnall has described Palmer's arrival as being 'perfect for us'. "Matt’s got a great eye for a forward pass and will also contribute a lot when we’re looking to retain possession as he’s really comfortable with the ball and very competent technically. "We’ve still got Lamine Kaba Sherif, William Hondermarck and Kyle Bennett on trial, and they’re all showing promise" said the head coach. Notts County has confirmed the arrival of former Manchester City and Torquay United attacking wide man Arron Nemane on a two-year-deal. The French born 23-year-old winger arrives at Meadow Lane after the magpies successfully agreed compensation with Torquay to acquire his services. He joins former Plainmoor team-mate Kyle Cameron, who also joined Notts after opting to start a fresh challenge. Notts County head coach, Ian Burchnall said: "Aaron is one of the quickest players in the league, "He’s very good one-against-one and can play as a winger in a 3-4-3, as a wing back or even as a number 10. He’s a different type of wide player to what we’ve got at the moment. "Aaron is direct in his running and likes to get in behind to stretch the play. He’ll add something different to our attacking patterns and will be particularly useful when we’re up against teams who are defending with a low block as we’ll need players with pace and skill to open them up." He added. "He suffered an injury towards the end of last season and, while he’s put that behind him now, he’s going to focus on some gym work initially before joining up with the boys on the grass and being in contention for any friendlies." Nemane believes he brings creative flair to the Notts squad, with his direct attacking player which sees him use his speed and skill to cause opposition players trouble. "I’m as comfortable playing Maidenhead away as I was playing at Real Madrid in the Youth Champions League, It was a good experience playing against massive teams." Aaron Nemane said. "I’m here now, and I’ve adapted to it, we played Notts three times last season and I like their style. They struck me as a very good side, and it’s a massive club, so it was a no-brainer for me to come here. "I’m not far off, I just need to keep working in the gym and then hopefully I’ll be back to full fitness very soon." He added. "I can’t wait to get on the ball, take players on and create chances. I want to add more goals to my game, along with assists, and that’s what I’m going to try and do this season. I’ll do my best wherever the manager puts me, but I’m comfortable out wide and in more central positions. "We’ll just have to wait and see! I’ve played with Ed quite a few times when he played up the age groups at City, he’s technically gifted and will definitely be a good addition to the team." Notts County has confirmed the signing of 21-year-old, holding midfielder Ed Francis. The magpies latest recruit arrives at Meadow Lane on a two-year-deal, after being released by League Two side Harrogate Town. Francis is a former product of the Manchester City academy having signed his first deal with the Premier League club aged just six-years-old. Notts County head coach, Ian Burchnall said: "Ed’s time at City gave him a tremendous education, "He arrives here with great pedigree and experience of playing with some outstanding talent. He progressed through the ranks as a left-sided centre-back but felt, at around 6ft, he probably wasn’t quite tall enough to make it at the top in that role – hence his adaptation into a holding midfielder." He added. "It’s the position Michael Doyle has played his entire career "Doyler’s had a good look at him. He’s keen to work closely with Ed and I think he can add a lot to his game by passing on some of the smaller details. In the role we want Ed to play, you’re the pivot of the whole team." Before further explaining: "You have to understand space, where to position yourself to receive the ball and the defensive areas to cover. "You’re also responsible for dictating the play, so it’s a hugely important position. "We feel Ed ticks all the boxes to do a great job for us. Positionally he’s very, very good, he’s comfortable on the ball and has a lovely left foot – as well as a good physical presence." Notts County's head coach Ian Burchnall has opened up on his thoughts on the teams return to training this past week. The club is preparing to get the players match fit again, as they begin their pre-season this weekend against Coalville Town. Telford United, Boston United, Derby County, York City and Tamworth are all lined-up, with a potential game against National League rivals Solihull Moors. Meanwhile, the squad has settled into the training and new signings Kyle Cameron and Joel Taylor earned praise for their work outside of the season - with Burchnall declaring 'both have obviously done a lot of work in the off-season and brought a new energy into the group'. Magpies' Head coach, Ian Burchnall said: "You know, as much as you finish the season, "I think you need a break or Monday away - a couple of days, and I'm like missing being here and training with the lads. So it's great to be back with the nice weather and the players are working extremely hard. "So it's great fun to be back." he added. "We want to get the kind of the ground level of fitness that's going to sustain us throughout the season. And that's really important to kind of bed that down so that the volume and the running is a lot. But in my eyes, you can do that everything with a ball, you can bring the ball in and still gain what we want physically from it and still get elements of the technical bits in as well. "So for me, the players are working really, really hard, but we get the ball out. And I think that also motivates you to work that little bit harder as well. So yeah, the first few days have been great." Before explaining further: "I mean, just for them to be able to train a few days without kind of the pressure of everything being out there in the public domain. "Certainly we will have a few extra players and some try lists and bodies that we want to look at, in a bit more detail at the game at the weekend." He added. "Probably through into next week as well. Carl Roberts looks strong today. He did three, four sessions from him, you look great today. "We'll see how it goes on Friday. And whether or not we use him in the game this weekend. Not necessarily that important. But most important is to get a good week out, get some feedback from his body and see where he's at. Notts County has increased their transfer hunt as the magpies take on two trialists who are expected to feature in Saturday's pre-season friendly against Coalville Town. Both players have been part of the training sessions, with head coach Ian Burchnall confirming that they're midfielders. Summer signing Frank Vincent is currently carrying a knock, which is expected to rule him out of pre-season games for a couple of weeks. Notts are yet to further strengthen their midfield, after Jake Reeves departed for the Football League having joined Stevenage and assistant head coach Michael Doyle taking up more of a coaching role. Speaking to the Nottingham Evening Post, head coach Ian Burchnall said: "We've got two in at the minute, and then we'll probably have a couple more Friday and then in the game to help us out, and also it will be for us to have a look at them. "They're interesting players so the profiles are interesting, but they're ones that maybe we can't get as much information about them as we'd like and then you have to see them first-hand. "They are midfielders, but we will look at maybe attacking options as well." He added. "I mean, you take the stature of somebody like that and I thought he was an outstanding player for Torquay last season. To be able to bring him in given his age and where he is in his development, I think it's fantastic for us. "He's going to be a really good player. Frank Vincent has come in and sadly isn't 100 per cent fit. He needs a few weeks just to recover from a knee injury. "But I've seen enough of him to see that he's a very good football player. And again, young, ready to develop. Then we signed Joel, and he is going to give us something in that wide area." Further adding: "He has pace, that directness, that one v one. So far I am happy with the kind of profile, the age of the players and there's going to be more to come as well." Notts County's latest recruit Joel Taylor has expressed his delight with signing with the magpies'. The club returned to training this past Tuesday, with the squad heading back to Meadow Lane after a few weeks off at the end of the last campaign. The 25-year-old wing back praised the clubs training facilities and the playing surface, as preparation begins for their pre-season games. Speaking in relation to his first training session, Joel Taylor said: "I do like [the training facilities], "Very nice training ground, it's nice to play football." Before adding: "Yeah, I mean, in pre-season, I know, it's about getting fit and getting back to match fitness. But when you're doing it with the balls, it makes our session a lot more enjoyable than just running around a pitch and whatnot. "So with this gaffer we can see he likes to play. So a lot of the running is done with the balls, which again, all players love doing that. So with the ball is obviously the best thing." With a return to training, Taylor met his team-mates for the first time since signing with the club. "Yeah. I mean, I met with the lads yesterday when I signed. "Well the majority of them anyway, and yeah they seemed sound - just welcomed me into the group straight off. And I feel like a part of the group already. "I want to come here, help the team progress and get back to where they need to be, but ultimately within myself as well" He added. "Very, very, very excited. Like I said last season, I think we played a handful of games in front of fans. "So getting the fans back in especially at the Meadow Lane, where it's a big crowd. So yeah, I can't wait for the fans to come back in and play in front of them." Notts County head coach Ian Burchnall has spoken about adding at least four more signings to his side before the start of the 2021/22 National League season. The magpies boss hasn't ruled out paying further transfer fees, after Notts completed the purchase of wing-back Joel Taylor from close rivals Chesterfield yesterday. Having signed their third summer recruit, with defender Kyle Cameron first arriving and then Frank Vincent - both of which arrived as free agents. Burchnall insists that more signings are on the way, as the club once again challenges for promotion back to the Football League. Speaking to the Nottingham Evening Post, Ian Burchnall said "We need some options in the middle. "We know we need midfielders in and more options upfront as well. You can jump on the first thing that comes up or do we take our time and be measured and understand that it's a strange window at the moment." he added "There's a lot of players and a lot of clubs in different situations so things have taken a bit longer than probably we thought it would. "In an ideal world you have everybody in on day one of pre-season, but it looks like it will probably take another week or so before I feel like we're more or less done." Further adding: "I think it really depends on the player, the circumstance and the overall package. "We have to take all of those pieces into consideration. So no, it's not necessarily only free transfers. We take the full package really and assess from there." Notts County has completed the signing of wing-back Joel Taylor. The 25-year-old arrives at Meadow Lane after leaving rivals Chesterfield for an undisclosed fee, Taylor joins the magpies on a 2-year-deal. He came through the Stoke City academy, before joining Kidderminster Harriers where he made 50 appearances for the club before departing permanently to Chester. The Spireites paid £25,000 to Chester for his services last December. Notts County head coach, Ian Burchnall said: "We needed a wing back who could offer a threat one-against-one. "Joel’s pace in the wide areas and his ability to attack in those moments is really important. "He’s been playing wing back at Chesterfield and, based on the games we’ve seen, he was most effective when they were attacking." he added. "With us being a team that wants to do that, we feel he’ll suit us well. Joel we have to look at the whole package, including his age and potential. Notts County defender Dion Kelly-Evans has agreed new terms with the magpies. The popular 24-year-old is the last of the remaining players offered a new deal on the back of last seasons campaign. Speculation had grown over his future, however, Notts has today confirmed that Kelly-Evans has agreed a new one-year-deal at Meadow Lane. Via the clubs official site, Ian Burchnall said: "Everyone knows what Dion’s about, he has no off switch – be it in training or in games, he brings the same level of intensity. "Not only that, but he’s a great lad who is keen to better himself and, with there being so much more time on the training ground this season" said the head coach. "I’m sure we can continue to bring him on leaps and bounds. For Dion and all the other boys to have accepted our offers speaks volumes about the positive environment we’re building here and it gives us a really strong base heading into pre-season. Midfielder Jim O'Brien has agreed a new two-year-deal with Notts County. The experienced 33-year-old is the longest-serving member of the squad, after Enzio Boldewijn's release earlier this summer. He arrived at Meadow Lane in January 2019, quickly becoming a firm fans favourite for his heroics and passion on the field. Speaking to the Notts County media team, Ian Burchnall said: "I’ve been hugely impressed with Jim’s attitude and ability since my arrival at the club, he’s got terrific energy and I think you could see how much we missed him when he picked up a couple of really unfortunate injuries towards the end of last season. "Importantly, he understands how we want to play which gives us continuity going into the new campaign." With Michael Doyle having agreed to become the magpies' assistant head coach, the extension has been described as 'providing continuity in the middle of the park'. Speaking about having signed a new two-year-deal, Jim O'Brien said: "I'm buzzing, really happy. Not long after the manager came in, i had a sit down with him and told him my plans that i didn't want to go anywhere, "I wanted to be here, so just to get it done is a bit of a weight off my shoulders." He added. "The two-year deal doesn't take away the fact that I'm here and your focused on the job at hand. We know where we want to go and you don't take your foot off the gas just because you've got a two-year deal. "I think the messages were clear in the meetings we had, get as many bodies in the box as possible. The way we play we controlled possession, it allowed me to do that. The messages we had in training, the shape, the rotations and the runs. It was all very clear towards the training." Notts County has confirmed the signing of centre midfielder Frank Vincent. The 22-year-old arrives at Meadow Lane after leaving AFC Bournemouth as a free agent, having signed a two-year-deal with the magpies. Vincent has played out on loan in recent seasons, having spells with Torquay United, Scunthorpe United and Walsall. The midfielder links back-up with Kyle Cameron and the pair helped The Gulls earned promotion to the National League in 2018/2019. Speaking to the Notts County media team, Frank Vincent said: "I'm obviously very buzzing to get the deal done, it's been a bit of an anxious few days. "Trying to get it all sorted but yeah just buzzing to get it over the line. Its such a big club and just can't wait to get started. I'm left-footed, I'm a midfielder. I'm a technically gifted player, I like to pass the ball, the combinations one-two's." he added "The way i play is the way the gaffer wants to play here, lots of possession based football, but not just that, I like to pass forward, I'm not just here to get the ball and pass it sideways. "I think I'm a risk taker in the right moment and yeah just looking to get the ball, pass forward, start attacks and i still haven't got a career goal so i was hoping to find that here and to find some goal scoring form here." Before explaining: "Obviously i knew the interest was there from Notts County for quite a while and having spoken to Ian, I've actually been to the stadium like a month ago "I had a good look around, had a good chat about football. His way in playing is very suited to my playing style so that was always a big factor of me wanting to come here and get this deal done." Notts County had tried to sign Vincent when Michael Doyle became injured having played against Hornchurch, however, the deal never materialised. Speaking on Frank Vincent, Notts County Head Coach Ian Burchanll said: "We’ve followed Frank’s progress closely," he explained. "He’s a talented player who’s had some interesting loan moves which show he’s got the hunger to play. We’ve been impressed with him. Frank can play either as a holding midfielder or as a number eight. "He covers ground well, he’s left-footed and a good passer of the ball. He suits the way we want to play and has been given a good education in that style at Bournemouth." Notts County youngster Tyreace Palmer has signed his first professional contract with the club after signing for the academy 11-years-ago. The 18-year-old striker has featured as part of the Notts youth team that went on to win the EFL Youth Alliance league in 2020/2021 and made his professional debut last season against Havant & Waterlooville in the FA Trophy. Head Coach Ian Burchnall, believes that Palmer should be a part of his side after scooping the Youth Team Player of the Year, having put in good performances and a strong goalscoring record. Via the official website he said: "Tyreace has been at the football club for a long time now. "We’re pleased to give him the platform to express himself. while he’s also got a lot of development to come, I think he’s got potential as a goal scorer and being around our squad on a daily basis is only going to help him." The magpies offered Palmer a professional deal back on the 14th of May 2021, and yesterday the club announced that the young prospect had signed. Speaking on his new deal, Tyreace Palmer said: "I'm over the moon, its something I've been dreaming for since I've been at the club over 10 years, so I'm really pleased to get it over the line. "I've been here since I was 6 or 7 years old, i signed that young and ever since I have just progressed through the age groups and I've just managed to get my contract every year." he added. "I've been top goal scorer most years, for the under 18's two years in a row. I enjoy it, I love scoring, not a better feeling than scoring. The first week I came in, I was finding it a bit tough to get into the tempo and the physicality but from that I've really got to grips with it and I've really been impressed with how I've been progressed with training. "Before my injury I was doing really well but I will have to come back stronger in the next season. I've got a micro fracture in my knee, I've been on crutches for 4 weeks. I've got rehab to do when I come back on the 12th and hopefully I won't be too long till I'm back playing. "I'm hoping to go out on loan and get some men's football, get experience and hopefully do well out there, come back and be fighting for the bench or starting 11 if I can." Notts County ace Cal Roberts has discussed his return to football after being sidelined during last season. The North Shields born winger, who progressed through the Newcastle United academy has become a popular figure within the magpies ranks after leaving Blyth Spartans in January 2020. After returning from injury against Hartlepool United as a substitute, Roberts only lasted a few minutes before limping off. However, the midfielder has spent his time out wisely focusing on regaining strength after having an operation. Speaking on the official clubs' website, Head of Medical Services Marco Ferreira said: "That was the main goal and it was the decision after Hartlepool to take Cal off to prepare for the play-offs and the new season. "We started again from 0 building confidence and building strength, and he's back on grass so its one step closer. We will build him to where he can join the lads in pre-season." The 24-year-old vowed to come back stronger, after suffering on and off with injuries during the 2020/2021 National League season. Speaking about his return to training Cal Roberts said: "You never lose it, although you lose fitness. Yeah, it's nice to get back out but yeah like you said, I'm blown but yeah it's nice to get my legs back going again, hopefully be alright for pre-season. "It's obviously nice to have a bit of time back at home but I think with the season I've had I'd rather be in and get fit and it's been a really tough year. "I've learnt a lot about myself and I've learnt a lot about my body. Over the past 8, 9 10 months, whatever it's been sometimes I've probably pushed myself a little bit too hard when i probably should've taken a step back. So this time we'll do things when I'm ready and confident to do the next step." he added. "We've seen the best people possible and had one of the best surgeries around, so I'm confident its worked and through the exercise that i used to get pain on, I'm not getting the pain any more.
