  1. Wow - I'm still pondering after 3 rubbish guesses.
  2. Back to a 4 again. Wordle 898 4/6* ???????? ???????? ???????????????? ????????????????????
  3. That would be very cold at this time of year!!
  4. All OK apparently. No further inspections planned at the moment (I assume that caveat is in case there is a deterioration between now and kick off).
  5. That looks like you have had a super stay. This weekend is a quiet one - my partner had round number 3 of her chemo this week, so we try to keep the following weekend nice and calm. So it will be a case of getting Christmas decorations down, maybe the tree, coffee shops in Canterbury and maybe some gentle Christmas shopping.
  6. I sometimes think of a word that is too fancy, but often if there is a choice of 2 it's the more straight forward word... I never learn though!! Wordle 895 5/6* ???????????? ???????????? ???????????? ???????????? ????????????????????
  7. @Burnz3r0 that's the style. I seem to recall Kevin Keegan rocked particularly tight shorts too, probably just before the one with Dalglish! Personally I like the length these days... or the early 20's!
  8. I think part of the problem is that their charter requires them to make certain types of programme, and this is often now what most people want to watch, but what only a public broadcaster will produce, and some of it is important stuff, if niche. Going to most other forms of funding would also require them to drop this requirement and then we would lose a lot, That's why it is difficult.
  9. Funding is an issue - but independence doesn't just mean financially independent. It works so well (and has the reputation internationally that it does, and consequently gives us a lot of soft power on the international stage) because it has traditionally shown no fear or favour to any political persuasion and most other funding models will challenge this.
  10. I think they have done a good job in the past, and in a grown up world, governments should welcome that kind of scrutiny (and I think up until about 7 or 8 years ago they largely did even if they moaned about it). Unfortunately since the Brexit referendum was announced the grown ups largely left the room and have no sign of returning. I agree it is part, and a large part, of the decline in politics. A confident government should have no fear of an organisation such as the BBC holding them to scrutiny, and should welcome it. Funding is a whole different issue. How do you fund it without introducing a bias?
  11. There are a fair few on another Notts forum... some even regard them as 'centrist'!!
  12. They were good times indeed, when everything was in black and white and shorts were like bikini bottoms!
  13. Back to back 3s! I don't think I've done that before! Wordle 894 3/6* ???????? ???????? ????????????????????
  14. The trouble with extremist governments is that they need to control the media to try and normalise the narrative. Since Brexit we have had an extremist government and as things have started to fall apart the need to control what we hear has become more important... hence GB News and the other right wing news channel that was licensed (Times News maybe?). The BBC has always tried to be neutral (and I think the fact that both right and left wingers see it as biased suggests that they do OK overall). Therefore, the government have taken control via their network of supporters and donors. It stinks, the BBC should remain independent.
  15. That was very prophetic. I looked in on another forum and it was in meltdown!
  16. I think Stone does go longer more often than Slocombe. Maybe he is more confident in hitting McGoldrick with a long ball than Slocombe? Our fans seem to really dislike whoever is in goal for us. It won't be long before the same people who abuse Slocombe will be doing the same with Stone. It's like the back 3 and goalkeeper have to responsible for every goal we concede and one or 2 are singled out for 'special' treatment. Slocombe is one of those, Baldwin another. It baffles me.
  17. 3 here too Wordle 893 3/6* ???? ???????????? ????????????????????
  18. I can't see us changing from the possession based approach and hoofing it out / away. We defend by keeping the ball. I do wonder if we can make things easier for ourselves though - could a sweeper like approach work? Have someone quick who can tackle and pass, say Chicksen, playing just behind the back 3 with Jones and Nemane as wingbacks and Bostock being the pivot with help form Crowley and McGoldrick and Macca up top. The difficulty is who in the back 3 could also support Bostock and still work as a CB - Cameron maybe? JoB? Doing that may make for a few more moments to make decisions. It may also concentrate the pressure on one player though as a lot would go through the sweeper and Bostock - mark them out of the game and it all goes belly up, so I can't see us doing that either! (It was fun musing though).
  19. I am a bit concerned about this one. I could see us coming unstuck if we don't apply ourselves. This is the first stickyish patch we have had in a number of years, so it will be interesting to see how we set up and manage the game. All things being equal we should win, but the additional pressure and expectation may just have a detrimental effect. I think it will end up pretty close, but I would love to see us go in with a big halftime lead and then come out and close the game out in the second. That would, hopefully exorcise a few demons which seem to be appearing.
  20. Back to normal today. Wordle 892 4/6* ???????????? ???????????? ???????????????? ????????????????????
  21. @Fan of Big Tone I had heard they changed the course at Long Eaton (a long while back). I was running with my nephew who was about 18 at the time (he is 25 now). He had bet me he could beat me over 5km... I helped him through the mud and waited for him, walked with him and cajoled him along for 4.8km... then he sprinted off and beat me! I have never done the fully tarmac course, so I'll have to head back and give it a go.
  22. @Fan of Big Tone I did one of the very early Long Eaton parkruns. It used to go through a nature area (?) which was flooded at the time. It was a mucky affair! Beeston was a nice course, but i can imagine it being muddy at times.
  23. I don't think that the club and board are saying anything other than we are aiming promotion at some point. It's the fans that seem to think that means this season, but I haven't seen the club say that anywhere.
  24. I don't think that a goalkeeper is a priority - ours get exposed more than most due to the way we play. I think even Alisson or Ederson would look average given the number of times they would be exposed... that isn't a pop at our defenders as we defend as a team (and the mistakes were made by the midfield last weekend). It's the way we play and the risk we take.
  25. The standing charge is so unfair. It allows companies to bake in and hide price increases. Why nobody has looked at this yet is beyond me.... well it's not - these companies support a lot of MPs.
