New Head Coach, New Ideas,Tactics, Shape & Style of Play..
I wonder if the silly mistakes come from indecision.. instinct is to put it in Row Z, instructions is to pass it out.

New Head Coach, New Ideas,Tactics, Shape & Style of Play..
I really hope we don't go 4-4-2 as I think it will hinder our style. With Chicksen in a back 4 with a mix of Brindley / Baldwin/ Cameron / Rawlinson and Macari, then you are restricted in the centre midfield; who do you drop from the pivot one of Bostock / Ausitn / Palmer / JoB and then all the play goes through one player which puts a massive pressure on them and is relatively easy to stop. Then with both of Namane and Jones on the wing do you drop Macca / Crowley / McGoldrick up front, or do you play with one winger? We are now set up to play with wingbacks so I can't see that changing. I would like to see us slightly more pragmatic and when under pressure not be afraid to put the ball out and reset, rather than play risky passes just to maintain possession. There is a happy medium that I don't think we have found yet (or even looked for).

Dan Gosling departs
I wonder about this one. It was always going to be a long shot to get a Matty Palmer replacement who could seamlessly drop in. Our closest would be JoB or Sam Austin. However, we need bodies for training as our squad is so thin it was probably getting hard to run competitive training session. In rugby it isn't uncommon for players to be brought in to 'hold the tackle bags', i.e. to be bodies in training sessions and to raise the standard of training. Given Gosling's fitness, I wonder if it wasn't a mutually beneficial agreement for him to get some fitness and to give Austin and JoB someone skilful to train against. That would make more sense than us trying to get him fit and up to match fitness in such a short space of time. He clearly didn't see himself as a L2 player, so maybe there was never the intention to pursue the arrangement beyond January, when hopefully we would bet more bodies in. Just a thought.

Jaden Warner to Notts ?
I would imagine that will put Stockport in the driving seat. Also, I tend to think if a name appears on the socials or in the press, we probably aren't interested really. Our recruits seem to come in without any forewarning.

Matt Palmer on the comeback trail.
@DangerousSausage The club are saying next season. I think it's still a long way from basic strengthening to starting running to training fully.

I can't say I'm surprised at the losses - it must be so hard at the moment. Let's hope it's a turning point.

Weekend Plans - Friday 5th January
@Fan of Big Tone That sounds absolutely fabulous. Operation Mincemeat is quite a story, bonkers in many ways and how well it worked. I'm glad the show did the story justice. Great news on your other half too. It sounds like you had a fab couple of weeks!

New manager
It's official - on the offy now. Statement: Luke Williams - News - Notts County FC It sounds like they will take their time and things will carry on as usual. For now JoB, Weal and Alves will be taking over ft team affairs.

New manager
I don't think we have a game which would explain the lack of videos.

Can Notts County make the playoffs?
Absolutely we can. We have been on a relatively poor away run, and whilst we are doing well we aren't without issues that have been present for a good while. So, there is an opportunity for new eyes and new ideas to positively impact the team. That plus some new blood and I don't see why we can't make the play offs, and, let's face it, automatic isn't out of the question yet either (albeit much more of a long shot).

Luke Williams to Swansea?
I think our side will stay quiet until there is something to announce. Things seem to have gone quiet after a flurry of 'leaks' and rumours yesterday, the Swansea posters (on NCM) seem to have gone quiet too. That suggests there is an issue somewhere, We can afford to play the long game as we don't have a game for a while, and our recruitment doesn't rely on a manager being in place (Macca being an example). Swansea are playing this weekend and have a few upcoming games, so they need to make the deal sooner rather than later. I wonder if Notts are holding out for the deal they want knowing this, but the longer it strings out the more I suspect Swansea will look elsewhere.

Luke Williams to Swansea?
It could be, but these are professionals. This is a job for them, no more no less. They may enjoy it more at one club or another, much as the rest of us would enjoy working for one company or another. I suspect the players know the score, and several will have been having conversations themselves (Macca and Cov maybe). So, from their point of view I can't see it will make much difference after a short period of adjustment. How it will affect LW himself is a different matter, and that would depend on why the deal fell through (if it does). If he called it off, then I think it enhances his position - I came, I saw, I prefer what I have. If Swansea call it off then there will be disappointment, if Notts refuse to play ball then there could be resentment. I can't see it falling through at this stage, although I would have expected an announcement by now if things were running smoothly.

Luke Williams to Swansea?
Or no news is a difficult negotiation!!
-
New manager
It won't be Burchnall. I reckon he was there about Tipton. I don't see what returning brings to him, never mind us. I think it most likely that we will see someone from the NL, or someone in a similar position to Burchnall or Nolan at a Championship club. One thing is a sure thing, they will be a modern Head Coach, as opposed to a Manager, they will be young and hungry and play a modern style of football. Other than that.. who knows?!!
-
Luke Williams to Swansea?
I think we have a good system, and the Head Coach and players are just cogs in that system. LW will go, probably to Swansea, but if not to one of the next opportunities, Macca will go, Crowley will go etc (eventually, one day - I'm not being a doomster about this window). The thing is our system means we will have replacements ready to slot in with minimum disruption. LW has earned his chance to move to a bigger club and he should absolutely take it, if it is what he wants. We will find another, probably young up and coming manager, and the chances are they will slot in and continue to move the club forwards. So, I'm happy for LW and positive about the future. Remember LW wasn't perfect and there are improvements to be made. I would be more confident in reaching the automatic slots than I was before.

Right now, lets see who is in charge and who we lose in the transfer window. I can't imagine that there aren't other discussions going on now LW appears to be going to Swansea.
