  7. Your point @Wheelbarrow repair man about the owners selling the best players reminded me of the owners off field Philosophy of buying up coming players, acquiring young loan players & developing them, bringing in free agents for next to nothing then hoping these players will become more valuable then selling or moving them them on. Can this philosophy be a path to success on the field or not? If it is a path to success on balance it will be a slow path to success.. it's ok to buy and sell, that's a part of football, but I do think that a Club has to hold on to their very best players & add other good players to supplement them.
  8. Wow that's a big shock. He was only in his middle forties wasn't he? Rest in Peace Ricky Hatton. The IndependentRicky Hatton death: Iconic British boxer, 46, found dead...Multiple world champion Hatton was found dead in his Manchester home on Sunday morning
  9. I remember that streaking incident @Wheelbarrow repair man at the Test match. Was it "Blowers" Henry Blofeld commentating? I'm sure it was.
  10. I'm pleased for him. To his credit he did get Notts to sixth place and a playoff place. From January to May of 25 he was virtually on his own without much support. We know that he was wanting in a few areas like EFL experience on the Management side & his substitution timings as an example, but he did give it his best shot, & if he had been given more support by the club hiring an experienced EFL Head of Football to help Stuart, & give advice who knows what the result could have been at season's end. You might be right @Wheelbarrow repair man that Stuart was hamstrung by the perceived wishes of the owners regarding the Notts model then, but it looks like the owners have done a 90 Deg turn when it comes to Notts footballing model this season. Pity they couldn't have given Stuart more of a reign over the style of play as they are appearing to give Paterson.
  11. What isn't in doubt is that Grealish spent the vast majority of his loan time at Notts under Shaun Derry. Grealish had his loan period extended under Derry. It was unfortunate that Derry couldn't extend MacGregor's loan period too.
  12. Four players achieve my shortlist for Man of the Match. Matt Palmer, Rod McDonald, Kelle Roos, & Jodi Jones when he came on as substitute.I will reveal my Man of the Match out of those four later.
  13. There are different types of methods in place to win football matches. One of those methods is to score more goals than the opposition in a match. No matter what the opposition scores, your team just needs to score more. This was a philosophy that was practiced under Luke Williams at Notts which was very entertaining & exciting to watch. It brought in the crowds & the TV Cameras. Of course there were downsides to this approach. The Notts defence was often exposed, but Notts were so good going forward this disadvantage was easily offset. Under Stuart Maynard he was more defensive minded & it did work to a certain extent, however Notts did continue to play with relative freedom up front, maybe not as much as under Williams, but the Notts team still scored their fair share of goals. I know it's still early days but it looks like the days of all out attacking football has disappeared under Martin Paterson. It seems that trying to become a more physical & resilient side has actually changed the way Notts are playing. That brings us back to the question, is winning more important than the way Notts achieve it? I personally wanted the Club to continue with the Maynard approach, but improve the side by adding 4 or 5 quality players in the summer. Maynard achieved 18 clean sheets last season with the seventh best defensive record. That record should have been easily built on this season. Up to this point I don't believe we are going to see that happen unless we see a big turnaround in performance under Paterson's Footballing style. So what's your preferred style PON members?
  14. Good topic for discussion & good analysis of the current situation at Notts so far @piedestrian In my opinion the Club has clearly regressed from last season regarding overall performance & the way that Notts are now playing. I get that Notts need to be a little more physical & less at risk of being bullied by teams, but Notts are still conceding goals by giving the ball away in their own half & being susceptable to crosses & dead ball situations into the box every match. Notts still have problems against an aggressive high press. A big issue for me, Notts are missing a playmaker & have never effectively replaced either Ruben or Dan in the AM role. I can see why Martin is trying to use Jodi in a similar role, however I still think he is more effective on the wings, which seemed to bear that out against Gillingham when he came on in the 2nd half. It's a shame that Notts couldn't get a result on Saturday. They very nearly did. They were just let down by another defensive mistake that gave the ball away & led to the Gillingham goal. We are where we are. Notts have to do the best they can up to the next transfer window & try to stay as close to a playoff place as they can. All said & done, it only takes a good run of form to climb this league. Despite some of the problems I still remain optimistic of our chances of making the playoffs again.
  15. I think the thread has drifted off topic. This is a reminder of the original question. Do PON members think that the Director of Football should be replaced by an experienced League 2 Manager/ Head Coach type or just amalgamate the two roles of Head Coach and Director of Football into one? Is it important that the Club has a Director of Football or not. Can a First Team Manager do both roles successfully at Notts?
  16. I think there is a serious point to it. Best to clean the mess up due to the risk of spreading disease like bird flu or something else.
  17. Notts will be hoping for a positive result today to cement their position in mid table. This is the current League table with Notts lying in sixth place.
