Martin Paterson Praises Winning Mentality as Notts Beat Fleetwood Town
I'm very pleased with the win and our first clean sheet. I was also pleased by the way they achieved the win too. Notts weren't at their best but they grinded out the win in the end after being under the cosh for the last 25 minutes or so. Martin still has a lot of work to do to get this team honed into a well oiled unit, but the signs are looking good all the same. I do like Martin's honesty & straight talking, but I hope that he won't over do it just to stay on the good side of some of the Notts supporters.

Fleetwood Town Win: Best Home Performance So Far?
Martin has chosen a strategy where he wants to make it clear that he will speak his mind & be honest with his feedback and feelings Whether this strategy is the right strategy only time will tell. A Head Coach job is to motivate & get the best out of his players. I think that any criticism of the players should be in house & not make public. It's ok to speak about the performance of the team generally but it has to be constructive starting with a positive and ending with a positive. There were lots of positives that came out of the Fleetwood match. Roos had his best game, the back three kept solid for their first clean sheet. Palmer is back to his near best, Jatta & Dennis are forging a partnership & another quality moment proved to be the winner. Notts are varying their tactics through the game going long at times & building from the back in others. So I would give the performance 6/10 & there is plenty of room for improvement. It's down to Martin to work his magic & get that improvement from the squad because there will be a big test for his team away to Gillingham next week & his preparation for that game must be A1 to get a positive result at the league leaders

Game 12: Worcester v Nottinghamshire
@Chris Notts are in second place in the County Championship first Division with an excellent chance of winning the Title if they can put some good results together in the final set of matches. If they could win the Title it would be good for the City. Josh Tongue along with Ben Duckett play for Notts but they do have England central contracts. Josh did well for England against India this summer. He's one of the only really fast bowlers we have.

Robin Hood. Was He Real?
Good article @Wheelbarrow repair man Ah Robin Hood and his merry men of Sherwood. The adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn as Robin & Claude Raines as Prince John, not forgetting Basil Rathbone as the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. A bit of film trivia. Basil Rathbone was quite an accomplished swordsman being a two times British Army Fencing Champion who actually taught Errol some good moves. It was ironic that playing the baddy he always had to lose against the good guys in the film parts he played. Little John is said to be buried at St Michael's Church Hathersage. The grave was once excavated in 1784 and a large thighbone measuring 30 inches was discovered. This suggests a man of large stature upwards of 8 ft tall. I've visited the grave myself and it is a huge one. Around the time that the legend of Robin Hood was spread it was a custom in the middle ages to call an outlaw Robin Hood as a nickname or alias for an outlaw. In Edwinstowe in North Notts there is a Church where legend has it that Robin Hood and Maid Marion were married. There is a plaque in place to inform visitors of that particular legend. Robin Hood will always remain a legend of good overcoming evil. Whether he was real or not, I don't think that it really matters. It is a timeless story that tells about a man's fight against injustice & oppression & defending the common people against tyranny & injustice.

Who's your Man of the Match v Fleetwood?
There's still ample time to vote for your PON Man of the Match award. Poll closes at 9pm tonight. There is still time for McDonald's ten point lead to be overtaken. Iorpenda is getting significant support by PON members, & Norburn is still in the hunt too. It looks like we could have an exciting finale to the vote.

I'm pleased how the Notts stuck to their task of protecting their small lead when they were under pressure during the last 25 minutes or so. If Notts can continue to show that determination, & doggedness when it's required combined with a bit of quality upfront front, I think it could encourage everyone that Notts do have the opportunity for success this season.- "Notts don't have to play well to win anymore"
@The Anti-Clough I agree that it works well with Stall onboard where you have maybe two differing opinions & with Paul asking the questions. I think he's testing the water to see how this particular podcast goes. His match previews are first class but this could be a podcast too far.- FAWNL Cup Group Stage: Sheffield FC v Notts County Women.
Last word from Manager Adam Dunleavy.- Who's your Man of the Match v Fleetwood?
Just one thing I think I overlooked was that I thought Roos played his best game between the sticks for Notts. I do think that he is improving & the clean sheet was a good pointer to that improvement.- Is Winning All That Matters?
If a team aims to be successful, it has to win lots of football matches & avoid defeat against the other top teams in the league. No team is ever going to play well for 46 games of the season. Maybe a third or more of those games they won't be allowed to play well. Those are the games where a successful team finds a way to win. That's why it's very important to have a sold defence & central midfield, with a competent goalkeeper behind them. And yes, I believe winning is more important than the performance, but if the team keeps winning whether they play well or not is still the sign of a great team. Great teams find a way to win when the going is tough & they have been totally outplayed in games. And Notts were on the recieving end of exactly that on several occasions last season.- "Notts don't have to play well to win anymore"
I welcome the subtle changes. I loved the all attacking style under Luke Williams, but I do think the owners have recognised that to get out of League 2 a side has to be much more unpredictable, & a little more unpleasant to the opposition at times to get positive results. Possession isn't the b all or end all in League 2. It's what you do with it when you have it, & when it's time to defend or protect a lead a team has to resort to all the tricks to brake up play, waste time, & to disrupt the flow of the game as much as possible. And I like the fact that Notts seem to be going more direct this season. It's better to have surprise in your locker than being constantly predictable.- FAWNL Cup Group Stage: Sheffield FC v Notts County Women.
Final Score A win for Notts Women Sheffield FC 0 Notts 2- Who's your Man of the Match v Fleetwood?
Notts were on the defensive for those last 25 minutes or so of the match & I thought that the defensive unit did very well in that period when usually Notts have conceded a goal. For me, McDonald stood above the rest. Sometimes playing mean & ugly can reap rewards. - Strands word game
