Takeaways From The Colchester Defeat
@McPie I agree with what you have said. Another thing we lacked yesterday was physicality & aggression. We were told that the new players were more aggressive, but the starting eleven was basically the same team as last season apart from Bass & McGoldrick & that team yesterday can't be described as being aggressive. Hall isn't an aggressive player, nor is Bennetts.

It's a great result for the tiny nation, & I'm sure the players chosen to represent it during the World Cup Finals will never forget the experience, I read in the report that most of the squad were born in the Netherlands & some have played in Europe & the football league, which does put the achievement of qualifying into context somewhat.- Scouting dossier : Notts v Colchester
Yes he was good for them, but unfortunately Notts made him look good. Our star man Jatta wasn't so good on the day because, Colchester prevented him from being good for us.- Perott makes international debut for Bermuda
If Clubs don't give young players an opportunity to show what they can do at a higher level they can easily miss out on something special. Alex Ferguson was a big proponent for giving young players a chance & the rest as they say is history.- Match Discussion: League Two - Colchester United (A)
@menzinho You only have to look at the problems we had last season against the top sides, then realise that 8 of the 10 outfield players playing for Notts yesterday were in Maynard's squad last season. Where's the physicality we were promised?- Takeaways From The Colchester Defeat
This game was a big test for Notts & it would demonstrate how the squad stand in the League 2 scheme of things, & whether they can compete at a high level against the top sides. With some very tough games to come against the leading sides in December, I believe it was important for Notts to put in a good performance against Colchester, but unfortunately it didn't happen, & Colchester were simply the better side on the day. Why? Because they won the tactical battle. Colchester were another side to come to ML with a plan. A plan that we see time & time again by opponents at ML. Notts couldn't better it once again. I think that Notts have to look at their present style of play, because the way Notts are playing is not good enough to counter the way opponents set up against them especially at ML. It doesn't help when Notts give away goals that could have been easily avoided. Unfortunately, I don't think that our number 1 goalkeeper is good enough & until a change is made, Notts will continue to concede soft goals like they have been doing from the beginning of the season. Another big point, 8 out of the 10 outfield players who lined up against Colchester played under Maynard, & Maynard's team had a poor record against the top 10 teams last season. This side struggled just as the side struggled last season to break teams down. It is also conceding soft goals just like last season. The January transfer window cannot come quick enough.- Weekly Chat - Monday 17th to Sunday 23rd November
It was raining most of the night here & it is still very overcast and heavy. There was a some brightness at the end of the day with our local sport when Nottingham Panthers beat their arch rivals, Sheffield Steelers 4-3 in a top of the table Elite League match. Panthers are top of the table. My local Football team AFC Mansfield beat Newark Town 5-1- Who is your Man of the Match v Colchester?
In my opinion Macari, Robertson, Ness & Grant were the standouts in a lackluster performance by the squad today. I think there needs to be a change of approach the way that Notts play because their approach to this game simply did not work for them.- Weather Updates

It's been raining all day here, but it's a little bit milder of late. The England Cricket team lost their first Test match against Australia in Perth in just two days after dominating the match for until after lunch on the 2nd day. Then Notts put in a poor performance today so the sports news is matching the Weather. Things can & will get better first thing tomorrow morning.- Match Discussion: League Two - Colchester United (A)
Three successive Notts managers haven't solved this tactical conundrum. I think it's maybe time for a rethink. How about a new way of playing, a new tactic to deploy especially when we play away but maybe at home too? Why don't we follow our opponents example and play like they do? Sit back, employ a high press & play a counter punching game. I say play our opponents at their own game. If you can't successfully counter their tactics. Employ their tactics.- Match Discussion: League Two - Colchester United (A)
