It was a beautiful morning here but a little chilly. It's started to cloudy over a little now but still getting periods of sunshine. Looking forward to the Notts match later. Hopefully we can secure another three points at Meadow Lane today

Match Discussion: League Two - Cambridge United (H)
Just checked the League table from last season & after 13 games Notts were on 23 points, so this season Notts are just 3 points behind what they were last season, & remember we just missed out on promotion by 6 points after a very poor run by dropping points regularly.

Football Regulator
Latest Football Regulator news. The Independent Football Regulator (IFR) is making significant progress, with recent news including the appointment of David Kogan OBE as its Chair & Richard Monks as its first CEO. The IFR has also published plans for a new licensing regime that will require all 116 clubs in the top five men's leagues to hold a license starting in the 2027-28 season, based on their financial stability, corporate governance, & fan consultation. This new system will give the IFR powers to enforce financial sustainability, cap spending, & ensure clubs maintain enough cash to cover operational costs.

I liked the original name to the stand. I thought that the name represented what this Club is all about. A family friendly Club. A do understand the need for the club to get sponsorship from various sources. The Club is a commercial business & has to generate income where it can, but sometimes I think it is much better to keep an important identity rather than change a name purely for financial gain. Will we ever see the name of the Meadow Lane Stadium changed in a big sponsorship deal? With this latest development with the renaming of the Family Stand, I wouldn't rule it out in the future.

We managed to get the lawn cut & trimmed around. We did some weeding but it started to rain, which hadn't been predicted so we called it a day till tomorrow. Hopefully that will be the last cut of the year unless this mild spell continues.- Sheffield Wednesday file for administration
The EFL have confirmed that Wednesday will have a 12 point automatic deduction due to going into administration. That leaves them 15 points from safety now at the bottom of the Championship. Can't help but feel that these points deductions are just punishing the club further down when they are already down. Their matchday squad at the moment involve players that have stayed on & haven't left due to the ongoing financial issues, & young academy players. The club already looks destined for League 1, but unless the Club is bought by someone willing to put lots of money into the club, there is a distinct possibility that more sanctions could be imposed, such as expulsion from the EFL, & that would be a massive moment for English Football. I hope it doesn't happen. Of course with all of these stories of financial problems in the football pyramid the elephant in the room continues to be Man City that is yet to face a judgement for their alleged 115 breaches of the rules.- Takeaways from the draw with Swindon.
Swindon are currently one of the leading teams if you go by results during the first quarter of the season. I think it was significant that Notts matched them in just about every department & were unfortunate not to beat them on the day. I think the match demonstrates how Notts have improved over the last few matches. Roos is getting better, the defence is sound, the midfield is solid & Notts are scoring goals from different players, & not just relying on the two strikers. The first eleven selection is getting much more consistent, but because the whole squad is improving, there is a healthy competition for places which is good, because it keeps the first eleven on their toes. Notts still have to deal better with crosses into the box, which has been a long running problem for them, but my takeaway is the positives at the moment far outweigh any negatives.- The Set Piece Conundrum
According to the website whoscored.com 53% of the goals that Notts have conceded this season is from open play, but significantly, 33% of goals conceded have come from set pieces. Conceding goals from corners & free kicks are still at a significant amount & we have already seen how costly those concessions can be. We have seen a big improvement in the Notts performances over the last few weeks & the defence has had a big role in that improvement, I am sure Martin Paterson is aware of the statistics about the circumstances of each goal conceded & will be working to get those set piece goal percentages down. Of course the opposition will be looking at those figures too, & they will be very aware that Notts can be vulnerable to set pieces, If Martin Paterson can solve this set piece conundrum by reducing the percentage of these set piece concessions, it could make the difference between losing a match, drawing or winning more matches. That means more work on the training field, such as the way that Notts set up & deal with set pieces, the role of the goalkeeper, & outfield players when waiting for a set piece delivery.- Weekly Chat: Mon 20th Oct to Sun 26th Oct.
Good Morning. It's a lovely cloudless morning but cold around 5 deg. Looks like it won't rise much more than 10 deg all day. The good news is that we can get some more gardening work done. Will make sure we are both well wrapped up. Hopefully the dew will dry and then we might cut the lawn. It still seems to be growing quite well with the mild weather of late.- Strands word game
