Time to be Positive about Season 2023/24
There are many positive aspects to consider. However, it’s crucial for Stuart Maynard to improve his performance, especially if he plans to stay for the next season. Personally, I don’t believe the board will let him go. Our options for attack are quite impressive. With the right recruitment, the team can be further strengthened. Just maintaining our position in the Football League is an achievement in itself.

Stuart Maynard: Should he stay or should he go?
With only five matches remaining in the season, it appears highly unlikely that Stuart Maynard will be dismissed due to the team’s poor performance. This is because a change in the team’s composition is imminent, with some players set to depart. The board does not seem to be contemplating Maynard’s dismissal. If they were, I believe they would have acted by now. It seems they are inclined to give Maynard more time. They hired him for a reason, and I don’t think the poor results can be attributed solely to him. The players have lost their way, and the team is in a slump. However, I remain hopeful that Maynard can turn things around by making necessary improvements to the squad.

Why Notts Will Sell Macca
I’m uncertain if the club could draw offers exceeding 1.5 million. I suspect it might be significantly lower with additional conditions such as extra money after a certain number of appearances and goals. That being said, I’m not concerned that Macaulay Langstaff would want to leave, nor do I think Jodi Jones would. Both appear quite satisfied and loyal. Being settled provides them with a lot of stability, and I can only see either of them leaving if the right club approaches them. Jodi’s injury problems might discourage more appealing teams.

Retain, release, sell, keep
Jim O’Brien could be a fantastic coach, but I don’t believe another season as a player would be beneficial for the club. That said, we do miss his experience and attitude at times, such as in the match against MK Dons. The club should aim to find a similar, but younger, player. John Bostock - Despite his poor performance, I would keep him. His salary is a factor, but I believe he could return to his best with Matt Palmer in the team and stronger players around him. Richard Brindley - He’s a good player, but I don’t think he fits our system. I’m not a fan of him playing as a centre back, even though he’s done a decent job at times. He should be playing more frequently, and his career might be better elsewhere. So, I would release him. Tobi Adebayo-Rowling - I like him, but his personality doesn’t match his ability. He’s not great defensively and overall, he’s not exactly a threat. So, I would release him. Aden Baldwin - I would offer him a rolling one-year deal. He’s a good defender and could partner with someone more adept at dealing with the opposition. Cedwyn Scott - I would offer him a three-year deal. He has been missed. Geraldo Bajrami - I would release him. David McGoldrick - I would release him. Adam Chicksen - If he could play more and maintain his form, I would offer him a one-year deal. However, I’m more inclined to say that we could do better. So, I would release him. Sam Slocombe - I would release him. Connell Rawlinson - He’s a good defender at times and a great guy, but we need someone with more speed and awareness. So, I would release him. Dan Crowley - I would offer him a two-year deal. He’s a good player and would benefit from a stronger squad. Matt Palmer - He’s a great player. A three-year deal would be excellent from a fan’s perspective, even with his injury. Aaron Nemane - I would offer him a new two-year deal, but he needs stronger competition. Kyle Cameron - He can be a great player. I think he and Baldwin show enough promise to think a solid defender could bring out the best in him. I would offer him a one-year deal. Will Randall - I would release him. Sam Austin and Jodi Jones both need to be offered a two-year deal. They’re very good players, around whom Notts could build. Aidan Stone - He isn’t good enough to be the number one and hasn’t shown any signs of being able to retain the position for the long term. So, I would release him.

LOOK
Usually, press conferences take place on a Wednesday or Thursday, and sometimes it’s up to the reporters rather than the club itself. However, since Notts’ form has declined, their media team has delayed them. The club should continue to operate as usual, as deviating from this only diminishes the openness and unity that the club emphasised at the beginning of this season.

Whoever signed this design off in Germany?
The shirt appears very nice, though the font used for the numbers is quite unsatisfactory. I don’t believe this was done intentionally. What would be the point of that? I attribute it to a simple mistake, human error.

Match Discussion: Game 42 - The Dons (H)
The team must function as a unit. We launch attacks collectively, but our defence is often disorganised. It’s simple to pinpoint errors, but there’s a lack of quick reaction to prevent the recurring mistakes that Notts commit. MK Dons wouldn’t have been close to a point had there been more awareness in the game. I heard numerous complaints about the defence that led to their first goal, but it was an excellent piece of play. I believe we allow too much space behind the ball, with players content to leave the defending to those ahead of the ball, which is part of the problem we encounter. However, there was nothing that the goalkeeper could have done about it and defensively, you have to accept these types of goals. The second goal for MK Dons was a bit unfortunate due to the deflection and bounce of the ball. However, there was a lack of defending and their third goal was extremely straightforward considering their player was clean through. Notts should show resilience in getting back into the game.

The case for the defence.....
Stuart Maynard has contributed to strengthening the defence, but there are some players who can’t be coached or instructed on the field. Yes, some managers can maximise their players’ potential, but it’s not as straightforward for a newcomer without a professional background. The only real solution to this problem is to recruit better defenders. It could be one intelligent defender who makes a difference alongside Kyle Cameron and Aden Baldwin. Alternatively, more defenders could be added, but I believe the wing backs and midfield need to fulfil their defensive duties. The goals in the video depict a disoriented Notts County, which is hard to overcome when you’re playing on Saturday, midweek, and then Saturday again.

9 points from a possible 42 under Stuart Maynard. Can he survive?
Notts is demonstrating brave support by not succumbing to the pressure from fans who want Stuart Maynard out. His appointment hasn’t been straightforward. On paper, it seemed perfect, but football doesn’t always unfold like a fairytale. I believe the club’s media team needs to tone down the hype at times. Personally, I feel this has fostered some negative feelings towards Maynard, mainly due to his background and his previous role as a technician at BT. It’s easy to point the finger and declare he’s not up to the task. I think the club will give him the chance to prepare and kick off the next season. The key point will be to address our shortcomings, which can’t be further improved with training or tactics. Having genuine depth and quality in all areas would indicate change. Not much is needed, just more refinement and better quality. The squad being short doesn’t help.

Sven's last stand
I didn’t realise that Sven was a Liverpool supporter. Out of all the teams he could have managed, Liverpool didn’t come to mind. It’s lovely to see such an uplifting story that brings a smile to someone who has contributed so much to football. It would be truly special if all of his former clubs united to honour his memory.

wishing you well piethagoram

New fan zone for Notts
The club has embarked on an ambitious project, but I believe they can make it work. Having a central fan zone is a fantastic idea, and I don’t think it will significantly affect other businesses. It simply means that other places will be less crowded. I’m looking forward to its unveiling. It would have been an excellent spot to celebrate our promotion last season.

Match Discussion: Game 39 - The 'Owd Reds (A)
I’m hoping there won’t be many alterations to the team. Despite the loss, they put up a good fight and until Scott Robertson was sent off against Crawley, the game seemed to be in our favour. Sam Slocombe has proven his worth in the team, standing out with some crucial saves. Will Charlie Colkett get a chance? We haven’t seen much of him during his loan period here. I agree that Sam Austin has been excellent since joining the side. Most of the team picks itself, so I guess one of the current issues is the lack of robust replacements in certain areas.

community
I’m only acquainted with one person here, so I feel a bit on the outskirts, but numerous members have given me a warm welcome. This welcoming attitude is clearly ingrained in the existing community, but it can still be intimidating for newcomers. You need to keep an open mind, as there’s a learning curve when using any website, and I believe it’s worth persevering here. The team members I’ve interacted with have all been fantastic. I aspire to become fully integrated within the community and will do my part to make that happen.

Stuart Maynard.
Stuart Maynard performed admirably at Wealdstone. Many people are quick to criticise their defence, but they operate on a highly competitive budget, which is only enhanced by their success in competing with teams that have much more to offer players. Therefore, I can understand why we recruited him and I believe it's worth trying to weather this particularly rough patch. It's more than just a minor setback at the moment, but that doesn't mean Maynard can't turn things around. Let's be clear, I am ambitious, but I think the course this season has taken warrants reflection. We started off very brightly and have been affected in many ways, through injuries, the loss of Luke Williams, match officials, leading to fan trouble, and much more. Dismissing a manager at this stage could lead to further defeats itself, as people take time to settle in and to understand the talent they have. Considering all these issues existed before Maynard, I am more inclined to think that they will also follow him if he is dismissed. It's important to sometimes stand by your head coach. I think Steve Cooper and Forest are a good example. They looked destined to be relegated, and while Maynard hasn't yet earned promotion here, he has with Wealdstone, so I can see the similarities with him stepping up into a more competitive division.

wishing you well piethagoram
I sincerely hope you read this. As a newcomer to the site and someone trying to take on a role that benefits the community, I naturally want to check in and see if you’re alright? Secondly, I wish you a swift recovery to the best health possible, @Piethagoram. I hope your discomfort subsides and that you can move about freely. The only pain you should be feeling right now is related to Notts. Take care!

What's the point of VAR?
I believe VAR needs to be controlled efficiently from behind the scenes, where decisions can be relayed quickly based on what they observe, allowing the officials to apply the rules correctly. The problem is, many officials seem hesitant to make quick decisions and spend too much time near the screens, causing further delays in the game.

Match Discussion: Game 30 - The Bluebirds (H)
Barrow appeared strong when they were able to create opportunities or control the game. I don’t blame them for their hard work as each player contributed significantly, showcasing their potential. Regrettably, we also saw the less appealing side of their game when they began to lose control. Their players became very aggressive and argumentative, often crowding around the referee. This behaviour doesn’t reflect well on a Football League club. However, when they focused on playing football, they were impressive. I thought Notts should have pushed harder for a second goal.

Stuart Maynard picks his first Notts Team
Notts showed significant improvement in their defence. Expecting rapid changes is unrealistic as it’s challenging for a new manager like Stuart Maynard to completely transform the team instantly. In my view, Maynard’s approach is commendable. I don’t foresee any of the loaned players joining the team soon. It seems Maynard prefers to rely on the players who are permanently at the club. His squad selection made a lot of sense, although I was hoping to see Jaden Warner start. I believe we will, but it might take a few games into Maynard’s tenure.
-
Red Card or just a Yellow, standard of refereeing?
The foul seemed to be aimed solely at taking down Jodi Jones. The Barrow player was nowhere near the ball. It was a fast and reckless lunge at Jodi. In my opinion, it deserved more than just a yellow card. The whole incident was unnecessary and unpleasant to witness.

Notts County Provides Comprehensive Injury Update on Players
It’s heartening to hear that all the players are making steady progress. We must remember that their return will depend on their readiness, and this can change. Seeing them back in the gym and on the pitch will be a more significant indicator of their recovery. Some might not reach this stage until the season’s end, but that’s okay. Despite the uncertainties, it’s reassuring that the medical staff have addressed this.
-
Historical Notts County Players. James Cantrell.
One of the FA Cup winners for us? All these players should be honoured at the club, especially if they do open a museum. They have brought the greatest honour to the club, which is the FA Cup win. It will be years before we get that close again.
-
San Sirrel in Lego
This is fantastic! The stadium looks remarkable in Lego. Truly impressive!
-
Jaden Warner to Notts
Apart from his debut, I can’t say I know much about Jaden Warner, and I assume this is the same for most fans. It would be interesting to hear what Norwich fans think of him. It might be worth a look at one of their fan forums, but I’m eager to see how he fits into the team.
-
James Sanderson
It’s wonderful to see a young lad given an opportunity and then a professional contract. That’s exactly what we, as fans, want to see. The ball is now in James Sanderson’s court. I hope he seizes any opportunities that come his way. He appears to be a unique talent.
