Grapevine Rumours and Inner Circle Truths
I do acknowledge and prefer the openness beforehand, rather than some of these people who base what they say on supposed conversations. I wouldn't be surprised if all this isn't true, but I am one who prefers it to be official before speculating. I don't think we should expect much more activity as Stuart Maynard did say that he only expected one arrival. We have had three, one to replace Dan Crowley or to provide cover and another to shore up the defence. I suspect any other interest was in case Jatta was about to move on. Roll on the close of the transfer window so we can focus on the business end of the season.

Saunders Brothers
We need to remember that until something is confirmed, it is never wise to speculate on unfounded rumours. It could be a mix of things, and in some cases, it's not always bad. We shall see what is what once the news is out, if anything does become official.

Baddiel & Skinner on Howard Kendall's sacking at Notts
I am unfamiliar with any allegations, but a bit of digging found this. Whilst I would not condone such behaviour, parts of the reports don't seem to be backed up by staff. I am not saying it didn't happen, but people fuelled by alcohol do tend to be aggressive. Is this acceptable? No, but he was probably much different off the stuff. I would hope people are better supported these days. Who is your Man of the Match v Accrington?
I wasn't at the game, but I listened to BBC Radio Nottingham's coverage and have since seen the extended highlights, which sways my vote towards David McGoldrick.

Baddiel & Skinner on Howard Kendall's sacking at Notts
I need to make it clear that I sympathise with Howard Kendall because something made him fall into the drinking habit. These days, there's more understanding and compassion for people with problems, and without making excuses, I think it reflects badly that Notts fans would mock Kendall's drinking habit. I don't know much about his time at the club or his behaviour, but I assume Derek Pavis knew about his habits. It's a situation where the blame is shared, not just placed on the person with the problem. The 90s had a drinking culture that came from decades before, with George Best being ironically linked to a drinking problem. Best gains a lot of sympathy due to his calibre as a player, but it's a striking contrast for a manager like Howard Kendall. His managerial career might not stand out as successful, and I think there's an element of people enjoying seeing someone fail. At least to a degree, certain people are jumped on for their problems. Brian Clough allegedly had a drinking issue, especially towards the end of his time, but fewer people mock him for it. Here are two brilliant reads about Howard Kendall. Next Vice Captain?
We lack suitable candidates to be fair. Matty Platt or Jacob Bedeau could be future candidates, but not just yet. If Scott Robertson were fit and likely to feature more, I might be inclined to name him. However, I think if you look at experience and the influence players have, we have no one more suitable than David McGoldrick.

Baddiel & Skinner on Howard Kendall's sacking at Notts
The 1990s was a strange time to be a Notts fan. The ground was being modernised, and managers were coming and going. Neil Warnock brought back some pride, but he was sacked after rejecting Chelsea. Howard Kendall, the manager, was targeted by fans with chants about his drinking habits. There was no sympathy or well-wishing, which was disappointing. The sketch by David Baddiel and Frank Skinner is funny even today, but it still seems harsh to mock someone struggling. To see Notts in what is now the Championship would be like a dream come true, and we had that in the 1990s. I wonder if we ever took a moment to appreciate it.

Notts V League 2's Top Teams
It's very typical for Notts to struggle against teams above or at the other end of the table in a season. Some of the games we've lost against the better teams in League Two have been unlucky for the club. For me, it's games like Salford away and Gillingham at home where I feel points were dropped. There have been games like Chesterfield where a point was saved. With the way injuries have affected us this season, it hasn't been all that bad. How many top teams have outplayed Notts? Salford is now in a better position for having beaten us. I think we need to narrow down the defeats at this stage and try to maximise the amount of points we can pick up. We have a good chance of picking up points at Meadow Lane, which would be crucial in any effort to finish in the automatic promotion spots or even the playoffs.

Rumour - Cedwyn Scott to Carlisle?
The club and Cedwyn Scott can't always update us on his situation. It's likely the club knows and has decided to keep it private. This doesn't rule out that he wants to leave, but it also doesn't mean his mental health hasn't taken a toll. How sympathetic are some vocal fans when results aren't going the club's way? This likely played a part. Perhaps we might hear news now that things have picked up since his second absence. Personally, I think the local media should push for answers during press conferences or do some real journalism to get a statement. Yes, Scott could do this, but if he's not in the right frame of mind, I understand why he wouldn't. If the club is choosing to keep the situation under wraps, then press conferences are the only time fans will get some form of answer, provided they are not edited. You put the question across, even if Stuart Maynard gave a generic response, it's something that could put the rumour mill to rest.

Rumour - Cedwyn Scott to Carlisle?
Football wouldn't be the same without wild rumours and people spreading stories. There might be some truth in it, but until there's something concrete, it should just be treated as a rumour. As for Cedwyn Scott leaving, it depends on whose decision it is. If Scott wants to leave, it's disappointing, especially since Notts gave him time off at a crucial stage to cope with his depression. His departure in this scenario would feel like a kick in the teeth. While I would wish him well, it would be disappointing. If Scott wants more game time, it makes sense, but the timing isn't the best. Being closer to his roots up north might help his mental health. However, there's the question of where he would be better off. Carlisle are in danger of dropping out of the Football League, while Notts are in a good position for promotion to League One. Moving to Carlisle might seem less ambitious, even if he would get more game time. If Notts want to let him go, I would question their commitment to players' mental health, as it could seem like they are pushing him out because he needs time. It's a bit like when Lee Hughes allegedly handed in a sick note from a doctor when Keith Curle, if I remember correctly, wanted Hughesy out. The main thing is that there's room for Cedwyn Scott to be a big part of our team, but it's a case of Stuart Maynard playing him in the right position or managing to get the best out of him and Scott putting in an equal amount of effort.

An Alex Bass Masterclass.
The Carlisle game wasn’t the first time he’s saved us; he’s been doing it in most away games. He’s such a calm presence at the back and pulls off some unbelievably good saves. I think he’s been one of the best signings this summer, definitely in the top three. By the end of the season, that could change, and he might even be my top choice. Alex Bass is a great addition to the club, and it’s fantastic to have a keeper like him, who should only keep getting better.

Super Sam Austin
He’s a good player, technically skilled in areas where we really need that ability. Crossing, reading the game, pressing to win the ball back, and finding the net are all great qualities of Sam Austin. I think people are always looking for better, but we need a player just like him, someone who works hard and takes his chances to start. I believe he’d do well if we make it to League One. As he gets more time on the ball, he’ll be able to influence the game and show his creativity.

"I Believe We Can Push On": Kellan Gordon Eyes Success at Notts County
You need players to come in and step up when needed, and Kellan Gordon has impressed me. Early on, he didn’t get any game time, but that didn’t stop him from working hard. The way he speaks shows he’s a quality player, with his priorities in order, and you can see his focus on wanting to succeed. He was a good player for Crawley, so he’s a good signing for us, and being from Burton, he’s not far from here.

Who's Your Notts Man of the Match v Carlisle?
Alex Bass deserves the Man of the Match award for last night’s performance. He was commanding in the box, especially with all the crosses Carlisle put in. That late save he made was top-notch, but his overall game management was just as impressive. The way he organises the defence and communicates with the players around him makes a huge difference.

Who is your Notts man of the match v Morecambe?
I thought very few of our players could say they performed well. It wasn’t like Notts to give the ball away so easily or not attack as a composed team. In my opinion, only three players deserve to be in the running for this. One was taken off when he was becoming more of a threat, another is listed, but I chose the player I believe deserves it most.
