  1. Any complacency Coventry may have had will have been blown away by their freak 6-2 home loss to Yeovil last time out. They'll be wanting to put things right and they will be well up for it against a side which they will take seriously. I think Coventry will win this one sadly.

  2. I think our man ARLukomski says it best... compare their front line with our front line and it highlights the difference between Accy - a bona fide promotion chaser - and Notts, who will be lucky to make the playoffs.

Likewise, I think it'll probably see them running out comprehensive winners over us - 3-1 is my bet.

  3. Depends what Notts side turns up really. Having Hall back will be a boost but morale has surely taken a battering given County's inconsistent form - looking over the last couple weeks, we're not doing "badly", just not doing well enough for promotion to be realistic. Obviously a win will put us right back in contention for the top three but I feel it'll end as a draw at best. Hope I am proven wrong!

  4. Exeter's away form has been woeful in recent months, but their home form has been great, hence their continued presence in the playoffs and not being far off third.

Big, big game - Notts win and they will pull further away from the chasing pack (and there's a lot of teams not far off Notts and Luton eager for one of those tasty top three spots), draw/lose and the whole race for promotion will be blown wide open.

  5. Swindon's away form is promotion quality, but their home form is relegation quality. Really inconsistent side, for some reason they just can't do it on their own turf. They hammered Luton away just a couple months ago but were hammered themselves at the County Ground. It's a difficult one to call, but given it's on their patch, I'm hoping that they don't turn a corner at home on Saturday... they can wait until Monday!

  6. Kevin Nolan should get the video of the game between Ox City and Colchester and basically pick out all the flaws - my guess would be complacency, lack of cohesion, U's fans quickly turning against their team for not performing against a "minnow" and failure to take their front line seriously - their wingers and striker (Matt Paterson) were quite a handful at Colchester so they will need to be dealt with accordingly.

A lot of people think like it's FIFA or Football Manager when a draw throws up one of these ties with a clear disparity, with a 4-0 or 5-0 guaranteed to be the cards, but let's face it, I cannot see it being a pretty game. Unless Notts open the scoring early on and cause City to lose all their shape, in which case the visitors will likely panic and their game plans will unravel - but even then I expect Notts to be cautious - but otherwise I can see it being a grind, with maybe a lone goal in the 75th minute from a set piece putting Notts in the third round. And yes, some fans will moan, but they can do one. Kev, just get us to the third round in one piece, doesn't matter if the game against OCFC is dire.

  7. Great to see Forte get a goal not long after coming off the bench, despite being marginalised (Smith and Alessandra ahead of him in the pecking order? really?) he's just getting on with the job and delivering when called upon. Notts should really push for a second though and just kill the game off.

  8. Nolan said this game "is just as important as the Rovers game"... he has to say that really, but I hope he drafts in the fringe players and just whatever happens happens. Top of the league, into the second round of the FA Cup, we don't need this added distraction.

  9. The Bristol Rovers managed has admitted that his team is overstretched at the minute, and AFAIK their star player Billy Bodin is out injured, so Notts should field their strongest XI. It's a very winnable game, and if we make it to the third round, well it's a lottery innit - but as we've seen with the League Cup in recent years with Liverpool and Villa (and ofc Man City in the FA Cup in 2011), drawing a big team ends up becoming a massive occasion and could make the club a lot of money as well as giving fans a memorable matchday.

After this it's just Lincoln in the Paint Pot trophy in midweek, which is completely irrelevant, so just chuck in the fringe players for that and when it comes to League Two, bring in the rested first-teamers. Simple as.

  10. I hope Nolan drafts as many fringe players as he's "allowed" by this totalitarian competition, makes a first-minute substitution of another first-team player just to send a message, and tells his players to treat it like a training ground exercise. Screw "morale" and "home form", it's a glorified friendly.

  11. Crewe are in pretty poor form at the minute - they've lost 7 of their last 10. That said they've not been too bad at home, and they can play very well on their day, so Notts must be fully focused and on top of their game as I can see it being a potential banana skin - I predict a 3-0 win for Notts if they're properly switched on, or a 2-0 defeat if not.

  12. Nolan says he'll use either Hewitt or Hollis in defence. Think I'd go for the former myself. As for every other position, pretty much keep it as it is. Hawkridge will probably be in for a bit of banter/abuse from the Lincoln fans but he seems made of tough stuff. Could see him grabbing the winner! ;)

  13. Great win in the end. Morecambe have been a bogey side in recent years but Notts were really impressive. Could have scored more in the first half alone, Dan Jones's free kick was a peach, then they weathered the storm in the second half and who else but our main man Jonny Forte getting the cherry on top. Now, years of supporting this side know I shouldn't get carried away, especially one month into the season, but dammit it's all going swimmingly at the moment.
