Kevin Nolan not ruling out further signings for Notts County this summer

Joe Jones

Kevin Nolan has not ruled out making more additions to his Notts County squad before the transfer window closes this month, but insists he is not targeting a specific position.

The Magpies made 13 signings over the summer, from those expected to be in first-team contention from the off to players earmarked as hot prospects for the future.

Nolan is happy enough with his team, praising owner Alan Hardy for having given him support in the market, but remains open should any particularly good additions crop up - or any injuries to current players.

“We are not actively looking for a certain individual or a certain position,” he told the Nottingham Post.

“Touch wood it doesn’t happen but we could lose a couple of players through injury, then you ask ‘what do we need?’

“So never say never at the minute. I am really delighted with the squad I have been able to assemble and with the backing I’ve had from chairman Alan Hardy in being able to achieve that.

“But if something right comes along then we will probably get it over the line, but, if not, I am really happy with what I already have until the January window.”

I think we need to be mindful that we actually wanted a good squad size, nothing too large and we are pushing beyond the original numbers because they wasn't very realistic but we are bordering well beyond that due to signing players which may not even get a league game this season.

It's all about quality rather than quantity, the squad seems capable but come January perhaps we can try to get a younger striker?

Someone with a track record and within the age range of 23-26 (still young).

@Chris I have noticed over twitter and other sources recently that Forest are doubting whether to keep some of their players or loan them out. By this article above i conclude from it that we are not going looking for signings but rather they come to us as in loanees. Tyler Walker from Forest is such a promising left/right back that has so many attributes our team could benefit from. Mark Warburton is undecided on his future but i think we wont need or get any more players apart from promising loanees. Bloody hell if Grant can't make the first team then other signings have got no hope :D

Walker's a striker buddy, but yeah - I've read the reports also.

I don't mind loans as much, yet we have to avoid the pitfalls which we have seen previous seasons (large squad, unsettled players, too many loanees) etc.

@Chris Sorry my bad. To be quite honest i would like to just stick with the team we have now and recruit in January if necessary. Mr Hardy is all about cost and reducing the wage bill so don't add to something that it fine already. Other than a clinical finisher i cant see any areas to strengthen. We wont sign a striker though because we have three already and have just renewed 2 of their contracts
