Mark Cooper unsure of meeting Notts County points target

Joe Jones

Mark Cooper has admitted that he has not yet achieved the points tally needed to secure a permanent contract at Notts County, and is unsure whether he will meet it.

The ex-Swindon manager, hired as a replacement for Jamie Fullarton, has accrued eight points from eight games, ensuring the Magpies will remain in League Two next season.

"The points tally is still achievable, but if you were to look at the last three games and the defeats, it's looking a bit far-fetched," Cooper said.

"But I will keep going because I want to give the chairman that problem of getting the target.

"I think everyone can see what the problem is and if I was to stay I think we could have a really good year next season.

"It's such a massive task for whoever is the manager because there is a lot of work to do.

"We've got to get some good characters in the group, some good players and sort it out really.

"I've tried to coach, I've tried to play in a way that can get results, but everybody knows what needs to happen.

"Let's hope we can get two good results before the end of the season and then we can start preparing for next season."

Am just trying to read between the lines, given 'two good results'; could Cooper need four more points to trigger the clause?

If it's any higher, I don't think he'll manage it, personally.

That said, it could be just two draws, which, given the season, could be seen as 'good results'.

It's rumoured to be 4 points but I don't anyone will ever really know for sure.

Despite the blips, plus the mistake highlighted by @Drivingmenotts (playing 3 defenders against Mansfield) - I still feel he's worth a contract now, as he shows a good understanding, he knows how to setup a squad and he's vastly better than the other rumour circling around (ex Mansfield manager).

Yet I would hope the stalling takeover is resolved, however much unlikely it would seem.

14 was the total I heard.

To be honest, the total now is irrelevant...the fact remains that MC has realised that things aren't quite as easy as he may have thought and regardless of points, Notts as a club needs a summer off to dust itself down and sort some players and staff who can change the culture and general professionalism at the club..Reports of players wanting out ? so whats their thought process ? I'll go to a club who will coast me along and embrace me for my quality? behave...regardless of where you are ...you need to work..hard...be professional..do your job...be mentally tough...something that a number of Notts players have struggled with on a basic level...couple that with the ability to perform at (even) this level has resulted in a squad that managers , even MC (for the disciples), cant turn into results. Too many 'professionals' that think they are better than they are ..the league position doesn't lie.

Will MC be there next year? who knows..his record with this squad is poor ...there is no getting away from that ..and no amount of honest interviews pre, or post match will change that but personally I don't think another managerial change helps anyone.

The lack of interviews from MC is a concern though......

Do you listen to all the rumours and take them as gospel?

Interested in the choice of words here - gospel - is it a hint that you're selling to the Church of England? :frantics:
