Matt Tootle has stressed that he "wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else" after he committed his future to Notts County until 2020.

The Magpies defender, who was voted the Fans' Player of the Year, was rewarded for his endeavours after the club unveiled their retained list on Tuesday.

Writing on his Twitter account, Tootle said: β€œAbsolutely delighted to have signed a new two-year deal at Notts.

β€œI wouldn’t have wanted to go anywhere else it’s been an amazing year which ended on a sour note. Can’t wait for next year already.”

Chairman Alan Hardy added: β€œHe is a fantastic ambassador for Notts County.

β€œHe’s had a great season and was rightly chosen by the fans as player of the year.

β€œHe was part of a fantastic back-four that had the third best defensive record in the league.

β€œMatt is tremendously committed to the cause and produced some excellent performances throughout the campaign.

β€œI am delighted he has signed up for the next two years.”

I wouldn't class it as a 'sour note' Matt, I think the outcome was taken out of our hands and the squad responded positively when the chances of playoffs seemed bleak. The squad pulled together and secured a space within that, yes we may have missed out on the automatics but really it's football.

Keep inspiring people and lets come back stronger!
