Harry Kewell names several Notts County starters against Newcastle United in EFL Trophy

Harry Kewell has revealed that Kristian Dennis and Andy Kellett are among the Notts County players who will be given a start against Newcastle United's Under-21s in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night.
The Magpies will be contesting their fourth match in 10 days and the Australian boss admits he will seek to use a "completely different" starting XI to the one that has often been selected in the league.
“Kristian, Andy, Noor Husin, David Vaughan and Nathan Thomas will all start,” Kewell told the official website.
“It’s going to be a completely different XI so a lot of them will get 90 minutes in the tank and it's a good chance for them to impress me.
“We are taking the game seriously and will be putting out a strong team because they are all working hard and want to force their way into a line-up that is picking itself at the moment.
“Unfortunately they have to be patient and wait for their opportunity so Tuesday is their chance to show me what they can do and give me some food for thought.”

Faces of PON: Notts County fans witness third win in a row at Macclesfield Town

Notts County's dreadful start to the season now feels an age away.
Three wins in a row and five games unbeaten now has the Magpies up in 17th place in the League Two table, four points clear of the bottom two, a superb turnaround given they were bottom of the table on just one point a month ago.
The latest victory is also County's first win away from home this season as Macclesfield Town, themselves still struggling and currently at the foot of the league, were beaten 1-0 at Moss Rose.
Late on in the game, Macclesfield centre-back Fiacre Kelleher gifted possession to Enzio Boldewijn, who bore down on goal, where keeper Kieran O'Hara committed a foul that yielded a penalty.
The spot kick still had to be put away but the experienced Jon Stead duly sent O'Hara the wrong way eight minutes from time for their first three-point haul on the road.

Match Reaction: Macclesfield Town 0-1 Notts County

Notts County now sit 17th in the League two table, six places above relegation, maintaining their unbeaten record after their third win this season, which ended 1-0 against Macclesfield Town on Saturday 6th October.
Macclesfield had three shots on goal, along with the Magpies also having three shots but they were all blocked. The match remained goalless at half time.
In the second half County's Jon Stead, Enzio Boldewijn, Nathan Thomas had a shot on goal and Macclesfield's Scott Wilson had one too.
Enzio Boldewijn got fouled in the box in the 80th minute, resulting in a penalty being awarded to Notts, and Stead duly converted in the 82nd minute.
Macclesfield's Callum Maycock attempted another shot in the top right corner but it was saved. The final score was 1-0 to the Magpies.

"Nine points was the target so I’m very happy we have met it, It was an important week because I felt they were three games that we could win but we knew they’d be tough.
"The players have worked hard since we came in and over the last seven days we have started to see the benefits. It wasn’t a pretty game and I’ll be the first to admit that, we knew coming here would be tough and we had to dig in, defend well and wait for that bit of magic.
"You have to win ugly in any league by doing the hard things first and that is where the goal came from. Things don’t go well every match but you can run, put pressure on an opponent and work hard for the team. Today’s result is probably the best we have had."
Elliott Ward
"It was a battle and any game at the end of a three-game week is probably the toughest, when you are playing somebody who is bottom of the league then it’s always going to be hard.
"It was about mental toughness, concentration and playing until the last minute. We scored a late goal. You don’t have to play well, but you have to win.
"Defensively we are a lot stronger, It’s not just about the back four and the goalkeeper, but about everybody. We are a lot harder to play against and to break down."

Chris: "Not a good game but a great result, we'll take it and build further.
Neither side looked 'good' but I do feel Macclesfield looked more lively, as I mentioned in my scouting report - they panic and if they took a little bit longer to decent how best to finish chances. Well, I think they could have caused us more trouble. Notts was very flat though, there was no signs of a game plan and I say this not to be negative but to give my honest opinion of the game.
The usual players that 'lift' us, well they wasn't in the zone and I can't blame them for all the minutes they've put in.
I would have taken Jon Stead off today, he wasn't coping and he looked unable to cause trouble. Instead of bringing on Nathan Thomas, I would have taken Stead off and introduced Kristian Dennis. Also, Shaun Brisley should have gone off sooner - he gets a lot of stick these days but he did struggle to be effective.
Harry Kewell didn't seem to understand how to plan Macclesfield or how to change the tactics to get us going, however it's three massive points on the road and a fantastic win."
menzinho: "I was only able to listen today but I was incredibly surprised to hear Brisley in centre mid. I get that he's big and he'll win headers but his passing and general skill level is pretty low, on his good day he's your basic, kick it, head it, win type of defender. I can only guess he was a kind of stopper and I can't imagine he really helped build any attacks. It's also not exactly a vote of confidence for the likes of Vaughan and Husin.
My only tiny gripe with Kewell would be substitutions, when we went a man down against Crawley I was surprised he didn't get fresher legs on quicker, we waited for about 20 minutes, they should have been on much sooner in my opinion. Likewise today, we didn't really have many opportunities until the pen, but he chose to keep it as it was. Why bring Dennis on with about 5 mins left, what is he supposed to achieve? He's proved can be very effective in this league, give him a bit more time.
That all said, not really complaining 9 points from the last 3 games is fantastic, unbeaten in 5 as well. On the whole it's a big improvement and it finally feels like our season has started!"
Magic magpie: "Not the greatest of win but we got the points and moved up the table that is what counts.... but when u have ref that blows up for every little thing against the lads will be nervous to do anything.
CliftonMagpie: "Just happy with the three points, Enzio chasing the ball for the penalty was class.
All the players will make mistakes at times but when a player doesn't give up, you have to give him credit. Brilliant penalty by Stead too."

Tactical Talk: Notts County lacklustre despite beating Macclesfield Town

Was the result fair?
I think a draw would have been the fairer result for the two teams, however at the same time I feel Notts should have had not just the one penalty that Jon Stead scored but another for the foul on him that resulted in Jon being hurled into the advertising board.
How did Notts play?
Very poor, they had no real movement and only two or three players were on the same wavelength – this would always make getting a result harder. I just felt like Notts played to take the point, as they invited Macclesfield to press them and just dealt with clearing the threat.
Upfront I don’t think Notts would have scored without the penalty despite Kane Hemmings wasting two perfectly good chances. Winning poor is much better than losing having played well, yet the performance was disconnected.
How did Macclesfield Town play?
First half I felt they were lively, it was almost like they had seen my scouting report and had decided to prove a point. They moved around well, created space but often wasted the chances they had by rushing the finishing. Ross Fitzsimons only had basic saves to make in the first half but Macclesfield did pressure Notts.
Defensively, I can’t give them much credit because of how they man handled most of the Notts players and reacted like they had been bullied over simple fouls on them.
It’s not hard to understand why they’re bottom of the League Two table, poor in most departments and just very scrappy football with no clear indication to any sort of proper game plan.
Did our tactics work out?
If Harry Kewell’s aim was to grab a win by being too defensive, I could say it did but I don’t feel either team had any sort of tactics. The decision to place Shaun Brisley in midfield was an odd one, I do feel it impacted the passing and grit from holding the midfield.
Did the tactics work? We came back with all three points, I would argue no but the points at this time are what matters.
How did the referee perform?
Poor, he gave Notts fouls for much less than half of the challenges he missed. It really had me baffled but I do feel all the officials were poor. There was a home team advantage clear from where I watched, I do feel the referee ruined the game somewhat but again I come back to those much needed three points. He awarded the penalty after missing one, so I’ll forgive this time.
Who do we play next?
Bury away is the next league fixture, it should prove to be a better game for spectators to watch. A win and Notts could be only 3 points behind them, after the start to the season this campaign it seems weird to think we are pushing for 11th place and higher.
How should we play them?
Notts should avoid being too defensive in my opinion, I just don’t think this would give any sort of edge and I do feel it would again impact the performance.
At the same time, I don’t feel attacking too much would be the wise call, so a balanced performance does seem to be the right focus. The midfield will always be the key to getting a good result and allowing them to play with confidence should be the goal.
Putting aside the scrappy performance again Macclesfield, I do feel that if the midfield holds the game and dictate the play – it will allow Notts to put on a good show against Bury. More importantly I do feel a win is possible if we go out to prove a point by playing good passing football.

The first half of the encounter saw little in terms of eventful occurrences, though the Silkmen had the better of the game up until the half-time whistle, with more possession and efforts on goal.
Ross Fitzsimons had to be alert to save from Nathan Blissett early on before Kane Hemmings prodded straight at goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara on the stroke of half time.
The stalemate continued into the second half, though Enzio Boldewijn and Stead had claims for a penalty waved away, before Nathan Blissett headed just wide of the post from a free kick.
Just as it looked like a draw was on the cards, centre-back Fiacre Kelleher gifted possession to Boldewijn, who bore down on goal, and O'Hara brought the Dutchman down for a penalty.
Stead stepped up and sent O'Hara the wrong way eight minutes from time to give Notts a late lead and, eventually, all three points.

Scouting Report: Notts County should take advantage of defensively lacklustre Macclesfield Town

Notts County can make it three wins on the spin, and claim their first three-point haul of the season, should they be victorious at Moss Rose on Saturday when Harry Kewell's boys face struggling new boys Macclesfield Town.
Pride of Nottingham's Chris has analysed the opposition and written up this in-depth scouting report with views on how best not to get stuck in a web against the Silkmen.

The Key Players
In midfield Koby Arthur can get his side going, he’s a technical midfielder who likes to use the ball and to run at the opposition. His ability to pick out a pass but also lead the midfield line is a main focus for Macclesfield Town.
Up-top Tyrone Marsh, Scott Wilson and Nathan Blissett all have the ability to naturally draw players onto marking them, they can rotate much like Enzio Boldewijn and Lewis Alessandra do – which can prove tricky. Neither of the three players should be allowed any sort of room in the box, as they can excel and create chances if this happens.
On the left side of defence, David Fitzpatrick is a player who likes to get forward as much as possible. His ability to attack but also defend makes him a useful opposition player to aware of, he will most likely try to float crosses and balls into the forward front line.
Style of Play, Strengths, and Weaknesses
Macclesfield Town appear to invite pressure onto themselves by the way that Mark Yates has his team set up, they look a capable side but failure to mark tightly does allow for their opposition to thrive when going forward.
Defensively, they seem to have no one taking responsibility for all the basic aspects of the game.
There’s no one pressing, marking or trying to win the ball back from the highlights that I have seen – they seem to rely too much on their keeper to make the saves.
Going forward they seem to be more focused, however many of their chances that they create seem to be down to luck or hope as opposed to having an actual creative outlet.
The idea seems to be however best to get the ball in the box, where they do have players capable of punishing teams.
They look particularly vulnerable from set pieces, which is something that Notts can make the most of.
Macclesfield are more than capable of creating good efforts, it’s more a case of pressure and scrappy play on their part that lets them down.
As a team they can score, so nobody should underestimate them but Harry Kewell’s defence should be more than capable of dealing with them.
Provided they reduce the opportunity to run with the ball or strike from it from distance, it should be a fairly basic task on paper.
Whereas Notts must look to get the down the flanks, using the aerial threat as a way to get chances a way and the players must be brave when it comes to showing what I would describe as Non-League defending.
It’s going to be a difficult game, much of the fortune and outcome will rely on retaining the hard-working attitude we have seen as of late.
I feel the game may be scrappy more than entertaining, however adapting and being prepared would favour Notts I feel.

Opposition View: Macclesfield Town fan predicts narrow win over visiting Notts County

Fan Introduction
Name: Ed Gorton
Age: 18
How long have you supported Macclesfield? I have supported Macc for 11 years now. My first game was actually at Meadow Lane in 2007. If I remember correctly we won 1-0.
Are you a season ticket holder? I am.
Favorite Player: Would have to be Danny Whitaker. Simply a club legend.
How do you think Macclesfield have done so far this season in terms of form and expectations for the season?
So far this season our performances have been very poor, and we’ve been resorting to long-ball football. We’ve picked up a bit in the last couple of games, managing to get two draws against two very decent sides. In terms of expectations, we were expected to struggle but none of us thought it would’ve been this bad. If we still had Askey, then it probably would be a whole different story. The most worrying thing is that the players that have come in aren’t better than the ones who stayed on from last season (apart from the two goalkeepers), but Yates kept starting the ones he’d signed.
Did you feel hard done by when John Askey left you in the summer for Shrewsbury Town?
I was gutted when John left, but he fully deserves his chance to manage at a higher level. However, it appeared that John wanted to stay at Macc, but there are strong rumors that the Owner and Chairman forced him out (they really didn’t get along well and rarely contacted each other). The fans are really unhappy about this and a majority want both the chairman and owner out. With the style of football that John had us playing, I really don’t think we’d be struggling in the league, and he always knew a good player when he saw one.
Can you describe what it was like getting promoted back to the Football League last year?
Getting promoted last season was incredible and meant an awful lot to every Silkmen fan. The fact that we did it against the odds made it even sweeter. It’s also so much nicer going on away days to places I’ve actually heard of before. And finally, the money that promotion bought in was huge for the club, as for the last few years we’ve been cash-strapped.
Who is the biggest threat when going forward and why?
Going forward we have a front three of Marsh, Wilson and Blissett. Blissett works tirelessly and wins a lot in the air. Wilson’s runs in behind are a big threat and Marsh is a very creative player. If I had to pick one I’d go for Blissett due to his work-rate.
What did you think of the appointment of Mark Yates from Solihull Moors after keeping them up last year in the National League?
At first, I thought Yates was a decent appointment. He operated on a tight budget at Solihull and completely turned their season round. He’s taken Cheltenham to two play-off finals and has Football League experience. However, I haven’t been impressed by his style of football at all and some of the players he’s bought in haven’t been great. I really hope he can turn it round for us.
As an opposition fan, which player are you most worried about facing from Notts County?
I would say Kristian Dennis. He played for us a few years ago and scored goals for fun. He’s a real threat in the box. Also, Elliott Hewitt and Shaun Brisley, both came through our youth team and turned into very good players.
Finally, what will be your score prediction for this game along with the goal scorers?
I’ll be optimistic and go for a 2-1 Silkmen win, with Blissett and Wilson scoring. Dennis to score for County.
Final comments from Sam and Chris
Both Sam and Chris would like to thank Ed for one of the best interviews we have had so far this season. It’s interesting about his comments made on manager Mark Yates and Kristian Dennis and how he thinks he will be the danger man for us. Finally, Sam predicts a 4-1 away win to Notts with Hemmings, Boldewjin and Dennis to score. Chris predicts a 2-2 draw with Hemmings and Hewitt to get their names on the scoresheet.

Harry Kewell happy with Notts County trajectory but warns of "blood, sweat and tears" to maintain momentum

Harry Kewell has claimed that Notts County seem to finally be moving in the right direction although "time, blood, sweat and tears" will continue to be needed in pursuit of the upper reaches of the League Two table.
The Magpies have now won their last two league games and are unbeaten in four, a stark turnaround from earlier in the season when they looked unfit for purpose in the fourth tier.
“It’s looking good especially in the opposition half,” Kewell told the Nottingham Post after the 3-1 home win over Crawley Town in midweek.
“We had a spell of about seven minutes on Tuesday when we dominated possession and created about three or four chances.
“We kept on moving, kept on switching it, got crosses into the box and I think Matt Tootle missed a simple header which he had to get on target.
“I am happy that we are creating chances and happy we are heading in the right direction.
“It’s exciting, but it’s not just down to me. I have got a great staff, the owner is very comfortable and very supportive.
“We had a great turnout from the fans which was excellent and we all want this club to get it to where it should be.
“It’s going to take time and blood, sweat and tears. That’s what we’ve got to work to.”

Faces of PON: Fans overjoyed as Notts County see off Crawley Town

Following the 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, Notts County followed it up with an even more impressive 3-1 victory over Harry Kewell's former employers Crawley Town.
Kane Hemmings and Jon Stead had the Magpies two up at half-time, even though the Red Devils arguably enjoyed quite a bit of good play and had their chances.
Although Rob Milsom - incidentally on loan from the opposition - was sent off 66 minutes for a late lunge, substitute Nathan Thomas added a third goal to effectively seal all three points, much to the delight of the Black & White Army.
Dominic Poleon nabbed a consolation in injury-time, but the evening would belong to Kewell and his boys, who now have eight points from their last four and two wins on the spin - quite a turnaround.

The Notts County revival is well and truly on.
After a shocking start to the season where the Magpies looked unfit for purpose in League Two, Harry Kewell's last four games have now yielded eight points in the shape of two wins and two draws.
Following the 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, Notts followed it up with an even more impressive 3-1 win over Kewell's former employers Crawley Town, a feat made more remarkable by the fact they finished the game with 10 men.
Kane Hemmings and Jon Stead had the Magpies two up at half-time and, even though Rob Milsom - incidentally on loan from the opposition - was sent off 66 minutes for a late lunge, substitute Nathan Thomas added a third goal.
Even though Dominic Poleon nabbed a consolation in injury-time, the evening would belong to Kewell and his boys.

Match Report: Notts County revival continues with Crawley Town soundly beaten

The Notts County revival is well and truly on. After a shocking start to the season where the Magpies looked unfit for purpose in League Two, Harry Kewell's last four games have now yielded eight points in the shape of two wins and two draws.
Following the 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, Notts followed it up with an even more impressive 3-1 win over Kewell's former employers Crawley Town, a feat made more remarkable by the fact they finished the game with 10 men.
After just nine minutes played at Meadow Lane, the hosts took the lead with their first serious attack, as Lewis Alessandra beat keeper Glenn Morris to Jon Stead's pass and laid the ball off to Kane Hemmings, who duly slotted home into an empty net.
The goal arguably came against the run of play and Crawley enjoyed a bright spell after the restart, but they were once again caught out by Notts as Stead latched on to Elliott Hewitt's header over the top to drive a shot into the bottom corner and double their lead just after the half-hour mark.
Crawley came close to halving the deficit late on in the first half as Jack Payne saw a long-range shot cannon off the woodwork with stopper Ross Fitzsimons rooted to the spot, but come the half-time whistle County continued to boast a healthy advantage.
On the hour mark, Jack Payne was lucky not to see red for blatantly pulling back Alessandra on the edge of the box, while five minutes later, Rob Milsom was sent off for a heavy lunge on Joe Maguire that the Crawley loanee could have few complaints about.
Despite the beginnings of some nerves showing, Notts settled them in style as substitute Nathan Thomas curled a 20-yard free-kick over the wall and into the lower reaches of the net for an unassailable three-goal advantage, though Dominic Poleon did grab a consolation in the 90th to deprive the hosts of a clean sheet.

Stat Attack: Notts County hope to continue revival against Crawley Town

Notts County have met Crawley Town 12 times over the years.

Last season, Notts won 1-0 at the Broadfield Stadium with Jorge Grant scoring the only goal of the game. Crawley won the return game 2-1 at Meadow Lane.
Before the 2-1 loss in January of this year, Notts notched up 5 wins in a row against Crawley, doing the double over the Red Devils in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

Crawley have spent most of their time in Non-League before being promoted to the football league for the first time in 2011.

The club almost came close to folding in 2006 due to huge debts but were rescued at the last hour. It is around this time, the club were in financial disarray and had a 3-point deduction in 2005-06, 10-point deduction in 2006-07 and a 6-point deduction in 2007-08.
Team news
Notts are set to be without captain Richard Duffy again as new boss Harry Kewell faces former club Crawley for the first time since leaving the Broadfield Stadium.
Duffy is still struggling with a hamstring strain so forward Jon Stead is in line to keep the captain's armband for Tuesday's League Two clash.
Nathan Thomas is pushing for a start after returning from a foot injury as a late substitute on Saturday while David Vaughan has overcome a calf problem.
However, Ben Hall remains out with a groin injury.
Rob Milsom, whose loan move from Crawley becomes a permanent deal in January, is able to play.
For Crawley, Joe McNerney and Mark Connolly are back in contention following suspension - the defenders missed Saturday's 3-1 win at Yeovil Town as they served their respective one-match bans.
Gabriele Cioffi could decide to start Ashley Nathaniel-George, who responded to being dropped at the weekend by coming off the bench to put the Reds 2-1 up.
Midfielder Jimmy Smith will miss the rest of the season after knee surgery.

How long have you supported Crawley? I’ve been a supporter of Crawley for 14 years now
Are you a season ticket holder? Yes, been a season ticket holder for most of the 14 years
Favourite Player: Bondz N’Gala
How do you think Crawley have done so far this season in terms of form and expectations for the season?
I’d say at this stage of the season our form has been very inconsistent but in terms of expectation I’d say we are about where we would want to be in the league.
Is there any current bad blood between your club and Notts County? Or were you happy with the income received from the likes of Kewell, Feeney and Boldewjin? 
I wouldn’t say there is bad blood between supporters or the clubs, but I think there is bad blood between Crawley, Kewell and Feeney, the income from all of their fees has helped us out massively and Meant we can bring in players like Morais and Ollie Palmer, Crawley fans have nothing but love for Enzio and most fans understand why he did the move to Notts.
Who has been your star player this season so far? 
Star player has to be Ollie Palmer scored 6 goals already and without him scoring I don’t think anyone else would.
What are your thoughts on the Rob Milsom situation? As we have him on an initial loan deal with a view to be permanent. Bypassing the fact, the transfer window shut early. 
You can have Milsom he played 3 games for Crawley and looked very poor, if he was till at Crawley let’s put it like this I’d happily drive him back to Notts if he wanted to go.
Are you happy to see the back of Harry Kewell? If so… Why? 
Personally, I’m happy to see the back of him, he just ruined the style of football Crawley have always played, we just kept passing around at the back and making silly mistakes, I never liked his arrogance either but guess you can’t help that with some people.
As an opposition fan, which player are you most worried about facing from Notts County? 
Got to be Enzio, always fear playing former players, not worried about Evina at all and Milsom I won’t realise he’s on the pitch, but we know what Enzio can do so got to be him.
Finally, what will be your score prediction for this game along with the goal scorers? 
Notts 1-2 Crawley, I reckon Enzio will score your goal and Palmer and Morais will score our goals.

It really is good to see what the opposition fans are thinking ahead of the league clash on Tuesday night, comments made about Kewell were very interesting. Shola Ameobi: 'I have not retired following Notts County exit'

Former Notts County striker Shola Ameobi has revealed that he has not retired and is biding his time ahead of a move to the right club potentially closer to home.
The Newcastle United legend has been without a club since being released by the Magpies over the summer, but is yet to officially declare that his playing career is over.
Ameobi scored 79 goals in 397 appearances for boyhood club Newcastle during a 14-year spell in the Tynesiders’ first team before leaving St James’ Park in 2014.
Since then, the former Nigeria international has played for Turkish outfit Gaziantep, Crystal Palace, Bolton Wanderers, Fleetwood Town and Notts.
“I’m doing bits and bobs,” Ameobi told Soccer AM when asked about what he has been doing since leaving County.
“I made a decision with the family that I wanted to be closer to Newcastle, which obviously limits the clubs you can look for.
“I’ve kept myself fit and I haven’t retired officially. It would have to be the right club [for me to sign].
“It’s not something I’m actively pursuing but, if something came up, I’d definitely be ready."
He also added: “I’ve had to think about the future. I’ve done all of my coaching badges and A Licence.
“I’ve been coaching with the academy for years now since I was at Newcastle. I enjoy passing on what I learnt because I grew up in that academy and have a lot of experiences.”

Match Reaction: Notts County 2-1 Crewe Alexandra

Notts County now sit 22nd in the League two table, just above relegation, after getting their first win of the season which ended 2-1 against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.
The Magpies were ahead 5 minutes into the game as Rob Milsom scored the first goal assisted by Kane Hemmings and Jon Stead.
Crewe, however, equalised with a goal from Jordan Bowery in the 14th minute as the first half ended 1-1.
Lewis Alessandra and Elliott Hewitt had shots on goal in the second half but one was blocked and the other went wide.
Hewitt did get another shot on target and managed to score County's winning goal in the 61st minute.
Crewe had a few more shots on target in the second half but Ross Fitzsimons managed to block them, the final score ended 2-1 to Notts.

Harry Kewell
"That was the best 45 minutes I’ve seen my team play, We were aggressive, winning second balls, playing predominantly in their half and forced them to pass backwards and we got on to the front foot.
"They were causing us problems in the first half but we changed things at the break and I felt we dominated afterwards.
"It’s a big relief but let’s not take away from our hard work over the last couple of weeks because those displays showed we are progressing, to get the result against Stevenage and to follow that up with a clean sheet at Northampton was good, so to be able to come here and work hard for the three points is fantastic."
Rob Milsom
"We’ve got off the mark but this is just the start, we’ve been working hard and drew the last two games - today we’ve got the breakthrough so we need to kick on from here.
"It builds confidence and belief so now we have to focus on getting more points on the board.
"There are times when you worry a little bit but, with the results and performances in the last two games, we knew it was coming, We have to make sure we build on this and that starts with getting another three points on Tuesday night."

Chris: "I felt Notts started brilliantly and until Crewe scored, I felt the game would be fairly simple but the mistake (which no one can be blamed for) resulted the lead being taken away.
"It was awkward watching Notts after that, and despite Crewe looking quite comfortable with drawing - I couldn't help but feel someone needed to take the game and attempt to change it. I think in the first half we was somewhat lucky Crewe didn't take the lead.
"I warned that they had a good midfield that worked hard, they had two fairly capable strikers and moved the ball nicely.
"Second half Notts just dominated and the win was deserved.
"I'm very pleased they kept battling at it. It's a very good performance but it could have been much difference if the team had worked harder in the first half."
Magic Magpie: "First three point thank f-Ing god the first half wasn’t brilliant but the second like a team possessed playing for each other and never giving up ... this the County I’m proud of ...!!"
Allardyces Tash: "I am delighted with the performance and 3 points gained.
"I felt Crewe did well, they looked more aggressive in the first half. They passed the ball around differently and that made it hard for Notts, the reshuffle in the second half helped correct the balance."
Fan of Big Tone: "It was great to get the first win under our belts, second half much better than the first, Fitzsimmons made an excellent save low down to his left in the second half I was right behind that goal it was excellent and deserved the congratulations he got from his team mates.

Match Report: Notts County claim first win of season as Crewe Alexandra narrowly beaten

It took a while but it's finally come, Notts County's first win of the season, a 2-1 triumph over Crewe Alexandra at Meadow Lane.
Harry Kewell's appointment as Kevin Nolan's successor raised some eyebrows initially but the Australian now has five points from his last three games, with draws against Stevenage and Northampton Town giving Notts a solid platform to build on.
On Saturday, County continued their renaissance as they played overall much better football in their home meeting with Crewe and, even though there were still some defensive issues - as seen by Jamie Turley's mistake for their equaliser - there was still enough to earn victory and a first three-point haul of the campaign.
Notts were bright from the off and only needed five minutes to open the scoring, Rob Milsom getting on the end of a delivery from Kane Hemmings and helped on by Jon Stead to rifle into the back of the net beyond keeper Ben Garratt.
However, the issue of defensive mishaps reared its ugly head again when, on the quarter-hour mark, a cross from Corey Whelan was poorly cleared by Turley, and Jordan Bowery seized on the opportunity to slot the loose ball home.
Both sides looked to find a winner in the second half, with Lewis Alessandra seeing a shot blocked and Elliott Hewitt heading the rebound wide of the target.
However, the winner came courtesy of the hosts when Cedric Evina's inch-perfect cross was met by Hewitt, whose header had too much power for Garratt and yielded the decisive goal of the game.
