Notts County secured an impressive 2-0 win away at Carlisle United, weathering a second-half onslaught to take all three points and continue their strong form in League Two.

Goals from Alassana Jatta and Scott Robertson in the first half proved enough to seal victory, despite Carlisle's relentless pressure and dominance in key areas of the pitch.

The Magpies started the match on the front foot, and it didn't take long for their early efforts to be rewarded. In the 10th minute, a pinpoint assist from goalkeeper Alex Bass found Alassana Jatta, who fired a right-footed shot into the roof of the net from close range.

The early strike stunned Carlisle and allowed Notts to dictate the tempo for much of the opening stages.

Carlisle had opportunities of their own, but they lacked the cutting edge to break through the resilient Notts defence.

Jon Mellish had an early attempt go wide, and Dominic Sadi saw his 13th-minute effort saved by Bass.Β However, the hosts couldn't capitalise on their attacking plays.

The second blow came in the 34th minute when Scott Robertson doubled the lead with a composed left-footed finish, calmly slotting into the top-left corner after a smart cross from Kellan Gordon.

This second goal seemed to sap Carlisle's confidence, leaving the visitors in control as the first half ended with a 2-0 lead.

The statistics, however, told a different story of the match. Carlisle dominated possession with 50.5% compared to Notts County’s 49.5%, but it was their inefficiency in front of goal that proved costly.

The Cumbrians registered seven shots on target compared to Notts’ three, yet were unable to find a way past an in-form Alex Bass.

As the second half kicked off, Carlisle upped the intensity and were constantly knocking on the door. They managed 14 corners to Notts’ three, with Charlie Wyke’s introduction giving them a much-needed physical presence up front.

The veteran striker came close on several occasions, with his best opportunity coming in the 83rd minute, when his header sailed just over the crossbar.

Wyke wasn't the only Carlisle player frustrated, as Cameron Harper struck the woodwork in the 81st minute after being teed up by Jordan Jones. Bass, who was exceptional throughout, denied a number of Carlisle efforts, including crucial stops from Harrison Neal and Harper.

Notts had to rely on some last-ditch defending, particularly from Lewis Macari and Jacob Bedeau, who both conceded late corners while making important interventions.

As the match drew to a close, Carlisle continued to push forward, but Notts held firm, managing to see out the game despite a frantic final few minutes.

The hosts’ frustration boiled over as they committed nine fouls, matching Notts County's total, but with only one yellow card compared to the visitors’ three.

Carlisle’s failure to convert chances was their undoing, leaving Notts County to celebrate a hard-earned victory.

The Magpies' defence, led by Bass in goal, proved too tough to break, while the clinical finishing in the first half ultimately made the difference.

The win sees Notts County continue their push towards the top of the table, while Carlisle will rue their missed opportunities and wonder how they failed to score despite a dominant display in the second half.

ForΒ me, that has to go down as the best performance of the season, & maybeΒ the best performanceΒ under Stuart MaynardΒ

In the first half NottsΒ dominated. Dan Crowley was superbΒ once again, Scott Roberson came back as if he had never been away, & Alassana Jatta is something else up front for Notts.

When he's in the team he gives Notts something extra. Th goal he scored was very well taken, but it came from a route one long pass from Bass.

The second goal was a typical Notts well worked goal finished off superbly by Robertson.

The second half wasΒ Notts having to show grit &Β determination to keep a spirited Carlisle at bay. A greatΒ defensive performance plus two World class saves from Bass, kept Carlisle at bay.

Notts have demonstrated that they can show flair to open up defenses, but they can alsoΒ show grit & determination & grindΒ a result out if necessary, as they showed in that second half.

Two wins & a draw sinceΒ the narrow Gillingham defeat isΒ a good way to bounce back & Notts are back to second in the league after nine matches.

We were a bit fortunate in the second half, but Alex Bass was brilliant in goal. Defensively, we looked strong, though there were a few moments when Carlisle managed to get a shot off. I thought they were quite poor up front and at the back, but their midfield wasn't an issue. I'm proud to see us hold on to the lead we worked hard for, and to get a clean sheet as well.

I’m so pleased Notts got the win. From the videos I’ve seen and the commentary, our fans sounded in great spirits. It seems like we’ve got more resilience this season.

The second half wouldn't have been enjoyable to watch, but the opening goal was pure class. That's the difference having Jatta in the team makes, everything seemed to shift once Stuart Maynard made the changes. We've played a lot of minutes recently, but it was a solid win. Alex Bass and all the defenders did well to keep Carlisle at bay.p

What an assist from Alex Bass, his long balls really impressed me, and it’s something we should encourage from time to time. I thought Notts worked very well in the first half to secure the 2-0 lead, with solid build-up play for the second goal. Kellen Gordon did well in my eyes; yes, he played it back at times, but he always looked for the right decision. It was great to see Jatta back in the team, his goal was route one football at its best. Our second goal showed a different style of attacking threat, but the second half was definitely nerve-wracking. I’m pleased for the players to get a good win, especially at such a tough ground.

I don’t feel like we’ll concede easily with this squad. Stuart Maynard has the players giving their best. While some goals are a bit soft, we must remember we’re still a League Two team. Things will go against us sometimes, but with a keeper like Alex Bass, teams like Carlisle, who had a strong second half, show the fighting spirit of Notts County. It was a fantastic result away from home, with the job done in the first half. We can’t underestimate the importance of each player working hard to stop Carlisle from coming back into it.

it was a very good win for us against a team that improved as the game progressed, without those early goals it could have easily finished either way and the clean sheet is a big thing for alex bass. you can see what they mean to him and having a goalkeeper of his class and ambition, its great for us fans.

It was a great win and result. I’m pleased Notts got the 3 points on the road.

Jatta and Robertson sealed it for us.

Both halves were a switch in who controlled the game. I thought Carlisle actually made more of a game of it. They had a few good chances in the first half and came out strong in the second 45 minutes. Those goals proved to be the difference, but we hardly had a touch in their half once they took control. I don’t think we even managed to get a shot away. I think all our efforts came in the first half, which goes to show how important Alex Bass and our defending were.
