Match Report: Notts County’s Jodi Jones and Dan Crowley Lead 4-2 Comeback Victory Over Bromley FC

PON_News

Notts County produced a thrilling comeback at Hayes Lane to secure a 4-2 victory over Bromley, overcoming a shaky start that saw them 2-0 down within the first six minutes.

In a match that showcased their resilience and attacking prowess, the Magpies found their way back into the game thanks to key performances from returning players Jodi Jones, Dan Crowley, and Alassana Jatta.

The match started disastrously for Notts County, with Bromley’s Michael Cheek opening the scoring in the 4th minute, poking the ball home from close range. Just two minutes later, Ben Thompson doubled Bromley's lead, firing a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, leaving the Magpies shell-shocked and scrambling for answers.

However, the returning Jodi Jones, eager to make an impact after missing the Accrington Stanley match, provided the spark County needed. He won a penalty in the 12th minute after a clumsy challenge from Callum Reynolds. Jones stepped up and confidently converted from the spot, sending the Bromley goalkeeper the wrong way to bring Notts County back into the contest.

Despite the early setback, Notts began to find their rhythm, dominating possession with 67% of the ball and pressing Bromley into their own half. The Ravens, who had only 33% possession, struggled to maintain control as the Magpies created chances, though Bromley remained dangerous on the break.

In the second half, Notts County’s persistence paid off. Dan Crowley equalised in the 47th minute, finishing a swift counter-attack with a left-footed shot that found the bottom right corner. Assisted by Jatta, Crowley’s strike gave the Magpies the momentum they needed to press on for the win.

It was then Jatta’s turn to shine. In the 56th minute, he completed the turnaround, firing in from the right side of the box after another rapid break involving Crowley. This gave Notts a 3-2 lead and silenced the home crowd, who had been confident after their side's early dominance.

As Bromley pushed forward in search of an equaliser, Notts County held firm, though Bromley managed seven shots on target. Alex Bass, in goal for County, made several crucial saves to deny the hosts, including a fine stop from Byron Webster in the 76th minute.

The Magpies sealed the win in the 89th minute, with Jones once again at the heart of the action. His left-footed strike from outside the box flew into the bottom left corner, leaving Bromley’s goalkeeper rooted to the spot. It was a stunning goal, showcasing the winger’s skill and determination on his return to the starting line-up.

Notts County’s ability to overturn the early deficit will give them confidence moving forward. With players like Jones, Crowley, and Jatta back in action, the Magpies look set to challenge for promotion, building on their attacking style under head coach Stuart Maynard.

The final whistle confirmed a 4-2 victory for County, capping off an impressive display. Although Bromley threatened early on, Notts' control in possession and clinical finishing proved the difference as they continued their strong start to the season.

What a rollercoaster of a match! To start so poorly and be 2-0 down within six minutes was disheartening, but the team showed immense character. Jodi Jones winning and converting the penalty was the turning point, and from there, the team took control. Dan Crowley and Alassana Jatta’s goals were a testament to our attacking flair. Special mention to Alex Bass for keeping us in the game with some stellar saves. This win is a solid indication of our potential this season.

This side oozes character and you just cannot right them off even with such a disastrous start, going two goals down.

Yes, we saw two defensive errors, something that has plagued Notts last season, but they held firm after that, then replied with four goals without reply.

This Notts team never know when they are beaten, & with our flair up front most sides in this division will fear us

Jodi Jones with two goals, & Jatta scoring once again for Notts, not forgetting Crowley from midfield too.

Our substitutions are now changing matches too which is a big difference to last season. If something isn't working, Stuart can change it.

Onward Notts go, now top of the league. Let's keep our feet firmly on the ground. There will be much better teams to play, but I think this squad of players will only get better as the season progresses.

What an extraordinary match! The way we turned things around after being 2-0 down in the first six minutes was nothing short of spectacular. Jodi Jones' penalty was crucial, and you could see it lifted the entire team. With Jones, Crowley, and Jatta pulling the strings, our attack looked phenomenal. Special kudos to Alex Bass for his key saves; he was a rock between the sticks. This level of performance from returning players shows how important squad depth is. If we can maintain this form, we're in for an exciting season. Hats off to Stuart Maynard for instilling such belief and resilience in the players.

It was a tough start, and being 2-0 down looked grim. But Jodi Jones’ return made a massive difference. Winning and scoring the penalty gave us hope. Crowley and Jatta’s goals were class, and their partnership could be key for us this season. Alex Bass needs a special mention; his saves were vital in keeping Bromley at bay. The final goal by Jones was absolute quality. This match demonstrates our attacking prowess and the fighting spirit within the team. With Jones, Crowley, and Jatta back, we definitely have a shot at promotion.

What a match! The early goals against us were a bit of a shock, but the way the team regrouped was brilliant. Jodi Jones was outstanding, not just for winning the penalty and scoring twice, but for his overall influence on the game. Our possession dominance showed we were in control, and Bromley couldn't handle our pressure. Alex Bass' saves were top drawer, especially the one from Webster to keep us in the lead. Crowley and Jatta were superb, showing great chemistry. Stuart Maynard deserves credit for turning things around strategically. This match has definitely set the tone for the rest of the season and given us fans a lot of optimism.

That was peak excitement! Going 2-0 down so early had me on edge, but credit to the lads for fighting back. Jodi Jones was immense today, winning and scoring the penalty that kick-started our comeback. Crowley’s goal right after the break set the tone for the second half, and Jatta’s finish was clinical. Bass making those crucial saves kept us in the game. Also, Jones' second goal was a beauty, and it's great to see him fit and firing again. The team's resilience is a sign of good things to come. I’m more optimistic about our promotion chances now than ever before.

Absolutely loved seeing the team’s resilience. Being 2-0 down and coming back like this is what makes me proud to be a Notts fan. The determination and spirit shown by the players were incredible. It’s moments like these that remind us why we support this amazing club. The fight and passion on the pitch were truly inspiring.

There were some “here we go” and moans amongst the support where I sat. I get it, but I wish fans would allow the game to unfold further before they start. In the first 6 minutes, Bromley caught us and made the most of knowing their pitch. They deserved it, and Notts did struggle, but I don’t think we should be harsh. The pitch looked like it had barely been watered, and on a pitch where the ball isn’t gliding off, you have to be more skilful with your control. It didn’t take long for Notts to show signs of wanting it more. It was a good match, and the comeback was exceptionally well taken. Notts deserved all 4 goals, but Bromley can feel unlucky that their strategy fell short so early in the game.
