We all remember the great goals but what about the great saves?

This save from England great, Gordon Banks, from a Pele header during the Brazil v England game at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, is my favourite all time greatest save.

Another fantastic save, this time by another England goalie, Peter Shilton.

Gordon Banks’ save was truly extraordinary, his ability to keep England in the match while making saves like that was remarkable. It never ceases to amaze me, England has had some outstanding goalkeepers over the years.

great saves, i have seen both many times before and i can see why england did well with both gordan banks and peter shilton. very good keepers, shilton was very flexible and cat like, with banks being such a great commanding keeper and shot stopper.

I've seen both many times myself, especially in those highlight reel type shows where they show the greatest saves or moments in football. I always rated Gordon Banks save as being one of the best. I used to think Peter Shilton was somewhat overrated in comparison to him, but wisdom comes with age. Both keepers were brilliant players for their clubs and country.

Both are outstanding saves, goalkeepers have the toughest job on the pitch and often get overlooked for their contributions to teams. Clubs wouldn’t win anything without a solid keeper, even teams like Manchester City should be thankful to have a good keeper.

A great save from David Seaman from the 2003 FA Cup Semi Final against Sheffield United.

Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton, and David Seaman were all top goalkeepers. It’s been some time since we’ve had a keeper of their calibre who’s also outstanding for their club. Jordan Pickford is decent, but he hasn’t lived up to expectations at Everton. Joining them might not have been the best move.

That’s my favourite save too @Robbie, I’ve never seen one to better it and even Pele could not believe he got to it.

We used to have some of the best keepers in the world back then, now you’re struggling to name more than half a dozen as the “sweeper” keeper appears to be more fashionable.
