I'm sure I'm Not the only Notts County Fan having Cause For Concern, regarding the form of Cedwyn Scott. He came to the Lane not long after the arrival of his Gateshead Team Mate Macaulay Langstaff and along with Macca a Bag Full of Goals. The Strange thing was the then Notts Head Coach Luke Williams swapped the Players positions around and for a time didn't even play them along side each other in Matches, but when they did play together Scott still played a Striker's Role. in fact during the Season in the National League I believe Scotts Strike Rate was even better per games played than Langstaff's (please advise me if I'm wrong).

The two Most Stand Out Memories (for me anyway) regarding that Promotion Gaining Season was Ceds missing a Late Penalty at Wrexham, but scoring the Penalty at Wembley which took Notts back into the EFL, Real Boys Own Stuff. He seemed to be settling well into Life in League 2, when he suffered an injury which kept him out of the Notts side for months and certainly since his Return he seems to be Blighted by ill Luck and other niggling injuries, on Top of Which it seems that like Luke Williams, Stuart Maynard seems Hell Bent in Playing Ceds out of Position. So Questions need to be asked Did Cedwyn Scott come back too soon after his Injury? Should he have waited out last season and made a Fresh Start at the Start of this Season? And how is the Fact SM is playing Ceds Deeper, away from his Natural Position of Scoring Goals having an Impact on his Form?

To Me it seems that Stuart Maynard is Preferring  Jatta over Scott who is also Struggling to Adopt to the Position Maynard wants him to play within the Team, and I think our Head Coach is Wrong. To Me Ceds is an out and out Striker and SM should be playing him along side Jatta (or McGoldrick) up Front to try and make them into a Double Strike Force like Scott had with Langstaff at Gateshead and for a Time at the Lane. Thoughts?

Good topic  @Wheelbarrow repair man

Notts under Williams & Maynard have for the most occasions have played with a formation of 3-4-2-1 with either Macca, Cedwyn, Didzy & Jatta being the one furthest forward on occasions. I can remember Macca playing on the right wing in the Newport away game last season

It seems to me Williams & Maynard prefer to have attacking midfielders supporting the striker up front. That marries in to Notts's style of play and formation of 3-4-2-1.

In attack, Notts's tactics & shape allow for a lot of positional fluidity, we will often see the deeper midfielders pop up in more advanced areas, whereas the attacking midfielders have the license to take up varying positions, from wide areas to playing alongside the forward striker.

Williams & Maynard have played two strikers as a partnership, but again there's lots of fluidity there two with one popping up on the wing & sometimes interchanging either in front or behind each other.

I think Didzy does this role of an attacking midfielder come striker brilliantly & I think Maynard is trying to fit Cedwyn into this role too, but again, the two roles are still interchangable.

@Robbie

Thankyou glad you liked the Topic.

I believe you're right regarding Didzy he's taken to the Role of Attacking Midfielder like a Duck to Water Scott not so much, I think he's trying but it's just Not his Style and the thing is the more try's and the More he Fails the More he going to get Frustrated and the more his Confidence will Drop and before you know it he'll just find himself as a Regular Bench warmer or Not even a  Match Day Squad Member, and once Notts injured players have returned he may find himself dropping down the Pecking order and even eventually may find himself like Junior sent out on Loan. Which in my Opinion would be a Huge Mistake, I am sure if SM Played the Guy in his correct Position the Goals would come, but as I've said previously Maynard seems to prefer Jatta to Scott to lead the Attack, but even Jatta Struggles when he plays up front on his own, and particularly now the Service Jodi used to provide as Gone , that is why I think two up Front would be better for Notts because two Strikers can play off each other and Create Chances for the Strike Partner. Most Successful Teams have at least Twin Strikers and in some cases Three, case in point Liverpool with Mo Salah Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

I get what you are saying @Wheelbarrow repair man regarding two strikers working together up front. This used to be the standard for most teams in the past.

The decline in the use of two strikers nowadays can be attributed to tactical shifts favouring formations that prioritise midfield control & defensive solidity.

So for instance, by have two forwards playing off each other & creating space will be a  traditional 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 formation which would be the British style of play.

As we've discussed before, teams prefer the continental style nowadays, which as far as I'm concerned can be too predictable against teams sitting back, & employing the high press.

Maybe, as you suggested, Maynard should try the 4-4-2 or 4-4-3 style ( twin strikers) or at least change things if the 3-4-2-1 isn't working.

You know what, I'm Sick To Death of hearing about how English Teams now play the Continental Way. No Offence @Robbie. But Bloody Hell the English Invented the Game.

Now English coaches fall into line and play the Continental way which goes to show how Poor English coaches have become if they haven't got  the sense courage or knowhow how to play the English Game. That's the biggest problem there are two many Foreign Players Coaches and Owners  ( not all Owners) who have ruined the English game. And how and why Money, that's the only reason . Does anyone on here actually believe Pep Guardiola would have had the same success he's had at Manchester City if he hadn't been bankrolled by city's Arab owners? No as I've said before Pep has never struggled at any club he's coached because he's only ever gone to a rich club so he can play around with his style of football until he gets it right and because he's won trophies then all and sundry have adopted his style, the thing is a vast majority of clubs don't have the type of money, he's been Given so despite playing Pep Ball they're getting Nowhere. Case in point so far this season West Ham. No Wonder over the years Fans have said Man City have bought the trophies they've won and it's True. It's the same in Scotland the two richest Clubs Celtic & Rangers, which teams win the SPL or Scottish Cups Celtic or Rangers. But once they come up against Rich Foreign Clubs in European Competition, what Happens? They usually get Thumped and Knocked out in the Early Stages.

Returning back to Notts if things don't change I can see Cedwyn Scott being Loaned Out come January and asking to be Released from his Contract at the End of the Season. Because he's just going to get Fed Up with playing out of Position and his Confidence is just going to go down and down, plus No one knows how this affect's his home life or Mental Health.

RANT OVER.

I get what you are saying @Wheelbarrow repair man and I agree with your sentiments.

As you know, I prefer teams to play the English style, it is a fast game & exciting. I never liked watching Italy in the 70s & 80s, which is the build from the back style.

As we've said before, Notts have to be more unpredictable in their style & to keep opponents guessing.

Nowadays, players have to adapt to different styles, if they cannot adapt, they will be released. That's unfortunate but that's the state of the modern game.

A forward has to be an attacking midfielder, winger & centre back when required in a game. Just look at Nemane, great going forward, but was left wanting in his defensive duties. He was released when a suitable offer came in.

Scott played well in the National League playing in an attacking midfield role and he still scored a good number of goals. I think he's still capable of playing that role for us along with playing as forward too (good luck getting in a head of Jatta and Didzy there though).

But the injury has been a massive setback, even over pre-season he didn't score and he looked like a player that hadn't played for a year. And then in his competitive return he's not looked quite on it but that is to be expected with all the football he's missed. I think he just needs a bit more playing time and with our injuries to Jodi, Grant and Edwards he's got more of chance than ever now.

I don't think it matters too much where he plays, he's played enough in the attacking midfield role he knows what to do, he's just got to take his chance when he gets it.

i think its more the club wanting to make sure he makes the first team and therefore is insisting to play him in midfield, he can do well but he needs time after his injury. i dont fault his workrate, hes always working hard. i just dont see him as a midfielder as much, i think he should be played more as a striker. there is the chance he could do a similar role to david mcgoldrick but i dont think persisting with him being a midfielder is all that beneficial to him.

the first part of last season in league two, he was brilliant.

he must feel a bit lost without macaulay langstaff, they have been a duo for awhile and being played out of position, it must add to missing his former teammate.

I think that it is becoming a cause for concern that we have eight injured players on the treatment table.

Whether it stems from rough treatment by the opposition, training methods or modern day footballers getting tired much easily nowadays.

It is not just happening at Notts but other clubs up and down the league have the same issues.

Eight players out of the squad is a very big number & a large number such as this brings the academy players into play too.

But the fit players available now have to step up to the plate & make a play themselves for a place in the starting eleven, once these injured player's return.
