Now the decision has been made to sack Stuart Maynard, who would you like to see replace him as head coach/manager?

Post your choice below.

Luke Williams and Macca returning to Meadow Lane

I don't really know, but I would hope we avoid going back to Luke Williams. As I have said previously, he's not a defensively-minded coach and we need someone who can bring stability at the back with a strong focus on good attacking football.

The mould of Ian Burchnall and Luke Williams has seen us improve, and appointing a lower-tier coach who has done well in non-league with Stuart Maynard was a gamble that could have paid off. Maynard isn't the worst, and wouldn't be by far. He was just average, but with a level of potential that we didn't really get to see ourselves. I can see him going back to the non-league.

Which is an area I would hope the Notts board avoids too. No unknowns, returns or lower league managers.

Someone with EFL experience and is a strong tactical coach.

Whoever it ends up being, we will probably see some flaws, but the chance of getting more out of the squad is there.

Someone who has lots of League 2 experience.

I would prefer to have a leader with some presence who will bring positivity to the squad & be a strong leader.

I hope that he will have the scope to use any style, shape & physicality to win a football match.

Too many times the team has been bullied of the park. This needs to change.

If the new Head Coach wants to go route one or surrender possession & hit on the break with pace, so be it.

Notts also need a strong Club Captain & Vice Captain, & I'm sure the new Head Coach will make appropriate changes after he's settled in.

No idea right now, I'll have to have a think but I'm sure the emphasis will be on bringing a coach who is more attack minded. We certainly lost the excitement factor at Meadow Lane this season and a big part of keeping the attendance up is entertainment.

Brian Priske, who coached Feyenoord in the Champions League this year, is somehow in the odds... Surely that will not happen though and someone has just made a connection between both him and the brothers being Danish!

As far as I know Luke Williams and Ian Burchnall are on the market. I hope we don't go there, but they'll both feature heavily in the betting. I'd be curious to see how LW does with better defenders, but I'm really not sure it would be a good idea.

Then there's random Danish blokes. Watch out for middle-aged Danish taxi drivers appearing in the odds for the next manager.

I'd bet that it's someone we've never heard of. Roberto Gagliadi will no doubt have contacts and as DoF will have had a say in SM's sacking. I just hope it's someone who's willing to commit to the club for a number of years rather than a journeyman manager or someone who sees us as a stepping stone.

I think they should interview some of the people on Twitter and Facebook, there’s lots of great coaches on there. :rollonfloorlaughing:

I think Luke will be seriously in the running.

Knows the club, knows how to use the Football Radar data, most of the Notts crowd will support him. Comes with a proven #2

First of all I don't think he'd come back, but if he did, if a Championship Club came in for him, would he be off once again?

I don't think the Reedtz brothers should take a chance on that happening again.

That would be a positive sign that #Notts would be doing well, and another load of £ in compensation swelling our coffers!

Realistically, any manager who comes in would probably be off again if a Championship club that wasn't in a complete mess came calling. Who here would turn down a 100% pay rise? As @Piethagoram says, if that were to happen, it would mean that the new man had done a good job and possibly won us promotion.

I've seen Des Buckingham's name mentioned online, but I'm not sure he would drop down to L2.

Notts weren't doing well when Williams up sticks & left. A new Head Coach had to sort out the mess he left.

I'm just not convinced that it would be the right choice to bring Luke back. There are lots of alternative Head Coaches that could do a good job for Notts.

I'm so grateful for what Luke did by getting Notts back to the EFL, but it's time to move on from the Williams era now.

I agree. With a decent defence, playing the attacking football he did. Albeit in NL.

Some question his loyalty.

His loyalty is to his family, they lived in Swansea. As a man who worked away from home, he was able to wake up in rhe same house as his kids.

No brainer.

Absolutely not Williams for me.

Going back often doesn't work unless you have something amazing, like Moyes and Everton - and he was there several years and away for several years before going back.

Williams had one season against teams who were - in the main - far worse than us and half a season where frailties were beginning to show.

It was a great ride, full of memories, but thanks and no thanks.

He's had a season where he was relegated and a season where he was sacked, I'd rather have someone with a better EFL record.

Having said that, I fully expect someone I've never heard of.

I don’t think it’ll be Luke Williams but I wouldn’t be against him returning as I do think he just fits us. The players were always behind him and he definitely had a charisma that Stuart seemed to lack. Who knows what might have happened had Swansea never approached us…

I’d be happy with Des Buckingham but like others have said I’m not convinced he would drop into League 2. I'd also be interested by Stephen Bradley at Shamrock Rovers, again not sure if he would drop to League 2 as he's seemingly quite happy over in Ireland.
