I don't want to talk about it

Featured Replies

Whose version do you prefer, Rod Stewart's, Tracy Thorn's or Martin Paterson's? :)

You have to feel sorry for Adam Hassell, the subjects he can ask about (or get answers to) seem to get fewer by the week

  • injury and fitness updates

  • 'individuals'

  • anything beyond the next match

  • nothing specific about the next match

I'm with MP on the first one ...but I think he could loosen up and be a bit more forthcoming on the others. LW didn't mind eulogising players and it didn't do us any harm. We all want MP to be our Head Coach for a long-time and there's a minimum of 92 interviews a season. It's going to be grim if the interviewers are so restricted. Let Edwards and Slocombe do the odd one or two. Poor Hassell (who is a great match commentator) seems genuinely scared lol. I hope he stops being so emasculated and gets to do the job he studied and trained for.

(the above is a bit OTT I know, but what do others think about the interviews lately)

@theAnticlough You make a good point, like you I agree with the notion of not talking about injuries or when players might return because that information is useful to opposition. The same with talking about what tactics we might employ for upcoming matches but I see no harm in occasionally talking about individuals and what they bring to the team or how well they did in the game.

I think in MP’s mind it’s all about the group, not about individuals which I can sort of understand he doesn’t want any prima donnas thinking it’s all about them.

I agree Hassell is a really good commentator, I wasn’t sure when Charlie Slater left leaving Dave Bracegirdle and Adam Hassell sharing commentary but I’ve really warmed to him since Bracegirdle went to Mansfield commentary.

Adam does a great job and along with Mark Stallard who is excellent in his co commentary role.

It is frustrating for fans when they want to be able to know exactly what the situation is regarding the state of the injuries & the Club is not forthcoming, but I do think that the Club is right not to divulge too much info to their opponents, especially the injury situation.

What we can gather from the limited information from Martin is that the injured players are making progress to regain their match fitness, but Robbo's situation is less certain.

As for Adam Hassell, I think he has grown into his role as a match commentator for Notts & his partnership with Stall is developing nicely. There's certainly a good connection between both of them which adds to the entertainment for listeners.

Agree @Robbie

Maybe it was simply a case of forgetting, but if we've reached a point where we can't ask about a key player like Robbo and his prognosis then the 'communications management' has gone too far IMO

Yeah, I get impression and I could be completely wrong here that Martin doesn't particularly enjoy the pre-match chats. I don't always watch them because he doesn't tend to give much away. I wonder if thinks the opposition listen and is therefore extra careful to give them almost zero insight!

I actually think hearing from Andy and Sam, in pre-match build up would make it more interesting from time to time. They don't have the final say on the starting 11 so they probably could talk a tad more freely.

Ryan Harley did quite a few (and invented the cure for insomnia). Before that Doyle did a lot. Mo Ross and Alex Rae are two others I remember, although the club didn't provide an interpreter.

We know Slocs like to talk - he could filibuster 10mins no problem, and MP gets a rest to keep it fresh
