I think this could be a great signing for Notts. I think he will fit in very well to our style. He's a finisher & that's who we need to put away the chances our midfield and wingbacks can create. Not sure that Martin will start him in the first eleven against Doncaster but I wouldn't rule it out. One thing is for certain, it's made my Bank Holiday Monday even better with this news.

Very good signing for me, but we will need to figure out how to rotate enough so he gets the game time needed. Much like Luka Smyth needing time to get match sharp, I think we need to be patient with Dan Kanu.

I think he will make a positive difference, and now that we have another option up top, at least we can try to avoid starting games too defensively, though I can appreciate that we have players who can give their all and try. Kanu will be a big blessing, and I hope he can prove he's a good talent at this level.

Why I think he could be valuable to Notts

He is a natural goalscorer. That's probably the biggest attraction. Notts needed somebody who can turn chances into goals rather than simply contribute to the build-up.

He gives us pace in behind. Richard Montague specifically highlighted his ability to run beyond defenders, using his pace and power.

He should suit Paterson's pressing game. He's described as hard-working and effective out of possession, which is important in the way Notts want to play.

He offers something different to Luka Smyth. I think this is particularly interesting. Smyth can give Notts a physical focal point, while Kanu can stretch a defence and attack the space behind it.

He's only 21. So there is genuine potential for him to develop considerably during the season.

And there's an interesting bit of context: Notts apparently had competition from other League One clubs to get him, so this isn't simply a case of Charlton looking for somewhere to park a young player.

The obvious question is whether 15 League Two goals translates into goals in League One. That's the gamble.

But I actually like this signing for Notts. We have been saying for a while that we needed a proper striker who can occupy centre-backs, run behind them and finish chances. Kanu appears to tick those boxes.

If he can get 12–15 League One goals, I'd regard the loan as a major success. If he gets 15+, Notts may have uncovered a player whose value could become very significant.

And knowing the preference for Smyth, I could see Smyth and Kanu complementing each other rather nicely rather than competing for exactly the same role.

My early verdict:

@Michael D Pie. A nice piece of summing up there. I agree that the signing of Daniel is potentially a one of the most important pieces of business of the summer and can I add along with Rory Finneran. This last 48 hours could potentially have made the season very exciting.

This looks like a very good signing, I'm glad the club have managed to seal it. Kanu and Smyth offer two very different approaches, so along with goals (hopefully) it'll give us more tactical flexibility too.

I’m very excited by this signing, I’m really pleased and impressed the club have got this over the line especially with other clubs interested, it does show that Notts have a good reputation of looking after young loan players.

As others have said Kanu brings another dimension to our attacking arsenal, I can’t wait to see him in action.

Very optimistic re: Kanu. He is agile, energetic and scores goals…… Good luck to him, welcome aboard.

Finneran’s debut was spectacular. For a young, inexperienced and extremely “new boy” he showed skill, vision, composure & strength on the ball beyond his years. If he can maintain that standard he’s an absolute gem.

tough debut to come on at a difficult spell and be asked to chase everything with limited service, i think he needs match time and i dont think we can judge him without seeing a run of games but his finishing looks to be quality. i am excited about the signing, it takes pressure off the injured strikers.
