RIP Richie Benaud...

A very sad loss to the world of cricket. He was an icon in the game and will be forever remembered as the voice of cricket.

He was also a true gent. I had the pleasure of working with him on many occasions when I worked at Trent Bridge and he was by far and away the nicest, polite and genuine of all the commentators.

While the likes of Boycott would arrive in their Jags with even bigger attitudes, Richie would arrive after...getting the the bus in from his hotel. He used to say he loved the fact that he could be well respected enough to be able to enjoy the places he visited properly.

A sad loss.

The best of the TV commentators on cricket by a mile - perceptive and understated. Also unbiased, perhaps as he had an English wife?

His lasting memorial at TB will be the toilet in the press box. I mean that in a nice way, as he was consulted when the Press and TV section of the Ratcliffe Rd Stand was being designed and asked for input. He said it looked great but he didn't like having to leave the area to go to the toilet when working as he would be asked for autographs at the urinal and hated having to say no!

However, to me the 'voice' of cricket was and always will be John Arlott.

Sad news....

I'm not a big fan of cricket, sort of for obvious reason but if @super_ram or my brother @william1984 listened to or watched it, I would if Richie covered the games. I didn't know he was Australian either, until Super told me.
