Newport County Founded in 1912 Reinformed in 1989 a day after my birth ????

They are known by the names of The Exiles The Ironsides , The Port , The County

elsh:Β Clwb PΓͺl-droed Sir Casnewydd)[1]Β is a professionalΒ association footballΒ club based in the city ofΒ Newport,Β South Wales. Newport don't ownΒ their own ground, they are tenants of Newport Dragons RFC.Β

Newport reached the quarter finals of the Cup Winners Cup back in 1981. WelshΒ based clubs playing in England competed in the Welsh Cup so that's how Newport qualified. They lost to eventual runners up Carl Zeiss Jena of East Germany but it's a tie they really should have won. If you meet any Newport fans tomorrow, ask them about this, it's an amazing story.Β

Colin Addison, who managed Newport in the 70s and 80s, was also our assistant manager briefly in the 70s.

Peter Beadle, who played up front for us in 1999, later managed Newport in non-league.

John Relish, who made over 300 appearances for Newport, was allegedly named after the strange red fluid served with burgers in Hooters.

Andy Legg played for us between 1993 and 1996 making 89 appearances and scoring 9 goals and had a brief stay with Newport County in 2006 making 3 appearances.
