List 2:   1st Aston Villa 2nd Tottenham 3rd Manchester United 4th Everton 5th Arsenal 6th Blackburn Rovers 7th Sheffield Wednesday 8th Chelsea 9th Liverpool 10th West Brom

List 3:   1st Arsenal 2nd Tottenham 3rd Manchester United 4th Forest 5th Liverpool 6th Sheffield Wednesday 7th Bolton 8th Chelsea 9th Sheffield United 10th Reading

Forest have won the FA Cup twice. Reading have never won the FA Cup. This is a difficult one. Is list 3, most semi-final appearances?

The first are the clubs that have participated in the FA Cup most. I'm pretty sure we've taken part in more FA Cup tournaments than any other club.

Could the second be the teams with the most FA Cup wins in the 20th century?

Number 1 is very nearly that, 2 points awarded but what happens to virtually all teams in the cup?

Number 2 - no.

And another two points for our resident Mannheimer. For an extra 2 why is the list of number of times knocked out not quite the same as number of games lost for some clubs? (number of defeats can be higher than times knocked out) @super_ram - you should get this!!

Nothing to do with penalties, games abandoned, postponed or awarded to the other team for some reason. This is genuaine defeats in the cup that didn't lead to the club being knocked out.

So list 2 most fa cup victories (in all rounds)?

I'll give you one point for getting close, but in order to win the most games is club is likely to have...?

Did it use to be a round robin event in the early days? I don't think it was a knockout event until nearer the 20th century.

No because not all teams enter at the same stage.

No, it's always been knockout, but in one particluar season for some reason...?

Hint - Derby County

And 2 points to Fozzy!!

in the first season after WW2, when Derby won the Cup, ties up to (I think) the quarter-finals were played over 2 legs, hence teams lost games but progressed to the next round on aggregate.
