Surprised there's no mention of this on here yet, unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

Notts County will travel to Brammel Lane to face Sheffield United on the opening day of the season as part of a group of special games announced by the Footbal League today to celebrate their 125th anniverary. The six games announced today are all of signifficance to the football league.

They are:

Championship:

Derby County v Blackburn Rovers (Founder Member v Founder Member)

Burnley v Bolton Wanderers (Founder Member v Founder Member)

League One
Preston North End v Wolverhampton Wanderers (Founder Member v Founder Member)
Sheffield United v Notts County (Oldest Ground v Oldest Club)

League Two
Newport County v Accrington Stanley (Newest Member v Founder Member)

Rochdale v Hartlepool United (Most played game in the football league)

I think this is a really good idea from the football league to celebrate the 125th anniversary, nice to see them actually putting some thought into something!

The rest of the fixtures will be announced tommorow.

Exciting game to begin the season for us. Hopefully the Dorset Pies will be able to make the trip :)

Just read about this on a news site but you beat me to it James.

Great idea of the Football League to arrange these  fixtures in celebration of the 125 years.

Looking forward to the rest of the fixtures tomorrow.

Fantastic post James!

I was told we were playing at home, they told away and not so long ago someone told me on Facebook it's an home tie. I'm a little confused but I think it's a good opener regardless. It would have been nice to be at home, though hopefully this means I don't miss an home game!

This game at Sheffield United will now be played on the Friday night with a 7:45PM kick off.

That rules this out for us. Thanks a bunch SKY, but then again who cares about the fans anymore eh?

It would have been better to have the first game of the season at home, but one team has to be away obviously.

I was hoping to make it to the first game, but i will hopefully get to the first home match if we have the funds.

Fingers crossed the Dorset Pies may still be going, it all depends on weather or not our designated driver can get the Friday off work

Not bothered aboutgetting home at silly o'clock. My sleep pattern is in such a mess right nw that I went to bed at 1:30AM the other night and regarded it as an early night!

I'm hoping to try and make a flag for us too. I've seen a few flags at games for the Nevo Pies, Grantham Pies etc, so hoping to do one for us exciles :)

Sounds fun buddy!

I was discussing with Cheeky about doing one for PoN, though I think I'll revert to using this little sign/banner thing Cheeky and Jake made. If you do make a flag, don't forget to share it with us and hopefully I'll get a snap of it on the day.

Fingers crossed for you! Would be a great start to the season. :D
