Gary Lineker, legendary Leicester City / Tottenham Hotspur / England striker, Match of the Day commentator, lover of thinly sliced fried potatoes and opinionated Twittererer, has spoken of a game he took part in against Notts County as one of his six most memorable games of all time.

Over to FourFourTwo magazine (link here):

April 24, 1979: Notts County 0-1 Leicester

My debut for Leicester was pretty hopeless; I scored my first goal about seven games into my career on a cold, dark night at Meadow Lane.

Leicester were near the bottom of the old Second Division, but I managed to get on the end of a Mick Duffy cross to get us a win.

I’d had no trouble scoring goals before then but I was worried I’d be found out in the first team, so it was a relief to prove I could do it. Everything else followed from that night.

Was anyone at the game? What did you think about this young whippersnapper called Gary Lineker at the time?

Even before the redevelopment Meadow Lane was a brilliant venue, I enjoy watching old clips and when I can hear stories about how the ground came alive on match days. It's nice to know that Gary Lineker feels the same way with regards to it.

I think my most memorable game watching Notts at home would have been when we was in the old First Division and pushing for automatics.

Back when I asked my grandfather if Notts would gain promotion to the Premier League, his blunt and funny response came true (Notts ended up slipping down towards the relegation zone) but I forget who we defeated 2-0.
