Ratings Wycombe v Notts

Collin 4 Yet another unconvincing performance. Seemingly, every time he takes the field, I never have any confidence that we will keep a clean sheet. Again failure to release the ball in the first half with 2 free players on the left. His kicks had an right wing swerve. Wycombe's equaliser was so predictable, he should have had someone on the line for Jacobsen's free kick. He has been around years, so you cant say Collin wasn't forewarned.

Tootle 5 Comfortable 1st half but all change in the 2nd. Stuck to his task

Duffy 6 Lead the line well.               )

Brisley 6 never easy with the Beast. ) Duffy and Brisley knew what to expect  and generally were up to the task. However on 3 occasions the Beast  got into good positions unchallenged, so defensive failings remain

Jones 4 Despite his positive contributions, in terms of delivery, he was extremely fortunate to remain on the pitch. A straight Red would have been more than justified having followed through after losing the ball in the first half. Seem to remember O'Connor getting his marching orders last season at home for a similar challenge

Yates 5   )

Hewitt 5 ) When you are behind the goal, its difficult to gauge their effectiveness as a pairing. Effort yes, but lacking a real cutting edge today

Hawkridge 5.5 Always chasing and closing down. Took a knock to the nose in 2nd half, bloodied and had to be taken off after that

Grant 6 Overall play maybe justifies why he isnt in the Championship...but glimpses of individual skills when needed, especially at 2-2, creates openings to be exploited

Ameobi 7 Ability to be a target man and bring others into play. Rightfully lauded after the final whistle

Stead 4 Dreams of America fading fast

Subs

Forte 7 Perhaps Nolan has got him finally mentally right..Came on and made a difference through his movement along the line. Certainly got "stuck in" where it mattered

Alessandra 6 Not much time but got in to get the 4th following countless rebounds

Smith N/A

I think Newark Pie had described on Twitter my Chesterfield ratings as harsh... However one has to make the point that Nolan is making the team a sum greater than its individual parts. Early days, but one can see tactically Big Sam's ideas of pressing in the final 3rd, so you feed off the mistakes of the opposition. Hawkridge embodies this philosophy, not the greatest in skill but with a Warnockesque workrate. Nolan also noticeable for the 2 lines of 4 tactics, to compress space when not in possession

Ratings based on a mean of 5

interesting views, but is it not the defence and captains responsibility also to take up positions for set pieces? seems harsh because it sounded like the two goals wycombe scored was very good goals.

Another fear and very rounded and comprehensive round up and view. Loving this feature.

I think you need to watch another team your ratings are always very low.......I know you try to be constructive but perhaps you are being too critical, and expecting too much from the standard of players the club can recruit. The object of any game is to win & we did that.

A good topic for discussion.  I always look forward to reading any 'player rating' thread just to see if other fans saw the game in a similar way to me.  I wasn't at Wycombe so can't contribute here.  I think Piethagoram's ratings are often similar to mine, but always a point lower.  It all depends on what your criteria is - I have always rated an average, competent performance as a 6, whereas Piethagoram would rate that as a 5.  Maybe we should establish one or other as the norm, but the important thing is that it gives those who couldn't attend a general idea of who was good, average, and bad.  The more contributions the clearer the overall picture, so if you watched the game please post your ratings.  There is no right and wrong, so have a go!

@Elite_pie Agree with Elite's posting and always consider the "ratings" as an active point of discussion. I have said many times before on this forum, I want the Notts players to earn their ratings and I always try to be honest and objective for the people who were not at the game or maybe listening on the radio. 5 is my base and Elite is 6 but generally we are both assess players within the variance of +1 or -1 point from each others assessment. I think the Chesterfield ratings, we were only seriously adrift on Collin and Jones.

As regards, "I think you need to watch another team , your ratings are always low"...well this is my 51st season supporting and I reaffirm supporting.... Yes, we are in League 2, but a good rule of thumb, is maybe to assess Notts players against their opposite numbers...and draw conclusions. What can be said is that our recruitment over the years has been a shambles despite a perceived higher than average budget. Accrington are a classic example of good recruitment by a team pushing beyond their economic weight.

Finally back to the Wycombe game, I did say that Nolan was forming a team greater than its individual parts. Yes we won, but we could ( or maybe should)have been a man down with a red card for Jones and The Beast missing 3 good chances. It could have easily gone against us...the margins are that fine. I make no apology but will continue to be honest and objective..and make no apology that I set my standards high...even giving credit to stand out players of the opposing team.

@Magpie in Franceperhaps you need to just read Leigh's ratings for a gloss on the ratings matter.I think Leigh has 7 as his base?

We are all entitled to an opinion and it would be so much better, to have more people on this forum having their input.

Cheers

Seem to have been critically hit on Twitter for my marking of Collin. Yes, in hindsight, I may have been over zealous with my rating. Yes, it was his best performance this season..I will amend my rating to a 6.

Saturday was my first match on ifollow. I can't really provide ratings as I struggled to tell half the players apart (invisible shirt numbers didn't help) but here are a few impressions.

Collin was fine. His kicking was good for the most part (one or two miskicks per match is pretty much the norm, happens to everyone), he commanded his box and couldn't do anything about the first goal (that was a combination of Brisley's fluffed clearance, sheer bad luck and a superb finish). As for the free kick, not many keepers would put someone on the line from that distance as they would be an obstruction. Collin did seem to get there a bit late though. However, I certainly wouldn't swap him for his opposite number in the Wycombe goal!

Jones also had a hand in three of the goals. As an attacking full back, you can't get much better than that. It was noticeable that Jones and Grant combined much more than Tootle and Hawkridge did on the right. All our goals came from the left.

Hawkridge has a real engine on him. Looks a decent signing.

Ameobi didn't threaten much himself but he does cause chaos in the opponent's box. He needs to be paired with a more direct player who can feed off that chaos. I think him and Stead are too similar to be paired together.

Little of our attacking play came through central midfield but they put their bodies on the line in a very physical game. We were first to every loose ball. In the second half we stood a bit deeper and this gave the hosts the opportunity to play to feet more, which we struggled with. The match seemed to be turning in Wycombe's favour until our third.

Fair play @Piethagoram we all see the game differently, though adjusting marks when deserved does sometimes require further thought and reflection.
