Where Are They Now?

Sorry is a thread similar has recently been started.

David Pipe

Quite often the standout player in what was a pretty poor Notts team during the mid 2000's. He played 124 games for Notts, scoring four goals. A fullback who was pretty sound defensively, at least for League Two, and could definitely go on some tantalising runs forward. However, some Notts' fans were a bit frustrated at his lack of end product, could whip a decent ball in on his day though.

He left Notts in 2007, joining Bristol Rovers who were then in League One, for a fee rumored to be just under £90,000.

He played for Rovers until 2010, where he was released and spent time in jail for assault.

Following his release, he now plays for Newport County, being a Welsh boy himself, who have just been promoted from the Conference to League Two, the place where he began with Notts.

So a bit of a topsy-tervy run in for Pipe, but I still have fond memories of his performances for Notts.

I don't know about now, though he was a talented footballer and one I enjoyed watching (when he kept a calm head).

It's a shame when players attitudes and behaviour problems get in the way, as he was a very skillful footballer and it's a shame that he ultimately destroyed his career. If he's still half as good as I remember, he'll be good for Newport and it's good to see he's made a return back to the football league. One of our writers @Joe Jones was preparing to write about him, although something cropped up and we decided to change to someone else.

He would be an interesting candidate for one.

Yeah I remember Pipey. During 06-07 he was our stand-out player, remember how gutted we were when he got sold on. A shining light in a dark period for the club. Shame about his later misdemeanours but he seems to have pulled it back together with Newport.

Yes I remember David Pipe very clearly(which is unusual for me) so he must have made an impression. I also remember being gutted when he left, he was a very exciting player to watch.

A bit more recent today.

Ishmel Demontagnac

Ishmel came to Notts with a reputation as a 'bad boy' but most Notts fans had seem him previously with Walsall and there is no doubt the lad had ability.

A tricky winger who could frequently beat players Ishmel was once regarded as one of the best talents in the lower leagues. By the time he turned up at Notts, he was regarded as a rough diamond, at best.

At Walsall he was released after a number of discipline related matters, problems he encountered at Blackpool and then at Notts, where he threw the ball in the face of an opposing player.

He never really lived up to his potential at Notts, although there was flashes of brilliance there were also holes in his game that saw him become a bit-part player, used mostly as an impact sub. It seemed that a poor attitude finally had took its toll on his ability, making only 17 appearances with no goals in black and white.

Released by Notts in 2012, Ishmel now plays his football for League Two Northampton, where he enjoys more game time massing 31 appearances since signing.

Ishmel was disappointing for me. He showed so much promise earlier in his career, and I had hoped it was a case of unlocking it, and watching a pleasant outcome. Not the case, his ability seemed to have at best stood-still, more likely declined, and he wasn't really cut out to hold a starting place in League One. Very annoying to see players with such ability waste it due to having such a poor attitude.

However, he's still only 25 so I doubt it's the last we've seen of Ishmel. I wish him luck with Northampton.

Very good reads SDA :)

Ishmel had bags of pace and promise, we never gave him a chance but I liked the signs I saw within him. There's been a few over the years, like Christian Montano. Yet, he did and fizzed out but we never really got the best out of either.

Striker TREVOR CHRISTIE works as a prison officer at Glen Parva, Leicester. I shall be meeting him in a few weeks and get a picture taken.

I'm slightly concerned that @sadlad met him whilst visiting. ;)

Ha! Noooo! He is to be special guest at our game v. Bradford City and will be meeting the fans in the Saddlers Club before the game. He was excellent for us and in our promotion winning team of 87-8.

Hi Granny Pie. He was terrific for Walsall and a brave centre forward. He had the distinction of playing for all the East Midland sides.

Lawrie Dudfield

Lawrie was signed by Notts in the summer of 2006, after finishing his contract with Boston Utd (Who then played at a higher level than they do now!)

He had been a bit of a journeyman in his time, but Notts were no strangers to that type of player. Although he classed himself as a striker, where he was frequently played, he never had a strong reputation for goals. This continued at Notts, where Lawrie made 74 appearances in 2 years, scoring just 9 goals.

In 2008, Lawrie was released by Notts. In the same year, he retired from professional football.

After a couple of stints playing part-time with various clubs and managing Quorn FC, he is now employed as the Commercial Manager with 'them across the river'.  He also set up his own company, Iconz Experience, who set up events using well known footballers.

I always have fond memories of Dudfield but I don't know if it's comedy value at some of the howlers he used to miss. He was one of those 'Hawley-esque' strikers who had an abundance of skill, but no idea how to put the ball into the back of the net. That made him frustrating to watch, the ability was there, the desire was there, it just never seemed to work.

It seems to me Lawrie is doing better outside of football than he ever did in it.

One of my favourites this time,

Danny Allsopp

Originally coming to Notts on loan during the 1999 season, he only made 3 appearances but did score 1 goal. Notts ended up deciding to buy Allsopp for 300,000 pounds. He scored 50 goals in 111 appearances for The Magpies, a ratio just under 0.5 goals per game.

A big powerful centre forward, who wasn't too bad with his feet and could certainly shift, his partnership with Mark Stallard was sparking.

From Notts,  Danny moved to Hull where he did well, if not replicating the goal ratio he achieved at Notts.

After Hull, Danny decided to return to his native Australia. He signed for Melbourne Victory for the inaugral season of the newly formed Australian A-League. However, he did not achieve the form or performances his ability would suggest in a league that was ultimately, a step down.

However, during the next season Allsopp found his form and the goals followed. This continued until 2009, when he signed for Al-Rayyan, a Qatari side. He scored 6 goals in 12 games there, before opting to move to the MLS with DC United.

Things didn't quite work out at DC, and after 1 season he mutually terminated his contract, returning to Melbourne Victory.

Danny Allsopp is now retired from professional football, turning out for his boyhood club Croydon City Arrows.

Allsopp is one of my favourite Notts players. I always remember him almost ripping the net with one of his penaltys. I was only young at the time, probably 9-10. I also got to see him play in the A-League in Australia, when he saw the Notts shirt I was wearing he came over straight away for a chat and a signature.

Top bloke!

Jimmyno1copy.jpg

I don't know about the real Danny - Ben but we need to snap you up, I think a long term contract might be in order! I love your posts about former players, very enjoyable.

Thanks!

I used to enjoy watching Danny Allsopp play, he had a good strike partnership with another favourite of mine Mark Stallard, if my memory serves me well.
